I can't stress enough how much I love Brooks. Look at him! He is such a god-like drummer, he influenced Jimmy's work and now he's showing all of this respect for him, saying how much he enjoys playing what The Rev created because of how original and challenging it is. I mean... Dude, I freakin' hail Brooks Wackerman.

I never thought I'd be happy with any drummer they got after Jimmy. But Brooks is a really cool, respectful guy and such a talented, clever drummer. I may not be as avid a follower as I was back in the day but I couldn't respect the five of them any more than I already do. Total legends.

Syn definitely seemed interested to get the point of view of a drummer, because it really helps give the closest thing we'll get to a true insight into Jimmy's parts in this song. Syn probably was as excited for this episode as we were! Plus, yeah, Jimmy was unquestionably an amazing drummer. I can tell Syn really appreciated the respect Brooks showed Jimmy throughout this whole video. It's nice to see.

Gotta admit, at first I wasn't on-board with Brooks but after seeing his work on A7X as well as what Syn said at 2:35-2:37 ""He (The Rev) was influenced by you", I fully realize that Brooks is the perfect fit for this band, moving forward. On a side note, I would love it if for a future breakdown episode, they invite Portnoy to choose one song off Nightmare wherein he can talk about The Rev's demo
@DariusKhan
@DariusKhan 5 жыл бұрын

I'm glad they got a great drummer but I feel like they got him way too down the line, like they got Arin somebody nobody knew anything about because they wanted to be old school and get somebody no one knew about and it did nothing for them, like it was the most unnecessary move in their career we don't want Portnoy because he has a name and then years later we want to get somebody who has a better name in the music world, and then drop Arin for no reason to where he's just like "what the fuck" even though at the time I thought he wasn't a good replacement for Jimmy but still Avenged has an odd way of handling things

@DariusKhan
@DariusKhan 5 жыл бұрын
@@Papada00 often hard to put into words why you like a song- whilst it's a long song, it's not too repetitive with several different sections and a wide range of dynamics, all with great riffs, singing and drumming. The whole thing is then put together so well. The thing that grabbed me the most was the beat at the start and how the kick keeps the fair complex pattern even when it goes to double time. Also like the lyrics. My brother wasn't fussed about the track at first but now he rates it, so possibly a grower for some. There you are - put into words badly.

My absolute favorite session of magic within Avenged Sevenfold is back in 2009, when they were playing live in St. Louis and Syn did a 3 part solo. The first two parts were just some sick riffs, but the third part...that is where the magic happened. The solo started out, haunting and beautiful with a mellow and hypnotic trance-like feel to it, then, it reached higher notes before descending back down its musical slope until, out of nowhere, the Rev picked up on it and immediately started playing alongside Syn with an energy very similar to Beast And The Harlot, kind of all over the place, a little rough, but it fit so fucking well. It was about a minute and a half or so of beautiful bliss transcending into pure unadulterated metal insanity. It blows my mind every time I hear it.

Fantastic break down videos! City was my first A7x album after getting Bat Country stuck in my head from flippin Dodge commercials lol. I put the cd in, and heard the intro to Beast and the Harlot for the first time, and it legit scared me! Now, it is still my very favorite A7x song, if not my favorite song from anybody!

Forever he will be my fav drummer. Props to Brooks, he's an absolute monster and you can tell he studied the crap out of Jimmy's work!

Please bring Brooks on for more drum talk as you can often hear Jimmy's crazy drumming but when you can listen to bars and bars and really soak it in it can't not make you wish you could give Jimmy a big hug and thank him for showing everyone what musical drumming can sound like.

Syn's dad is an awesome dude, he is incredibly proud of his son. Both are really talented musicians (obviously) and everytime I see Syn break things down, I feel so musically dumb. I just know great music when I hear...had no clue how they made it.

As a fan, not getting to know him as a friend or brother like the band did, my greatest sadness in losing the rev is that he was a truly perfect drummer, and I believe we can only count on one hand at max the perfect, zero-holes-skilled drummers in the industry today. His music will stand for centuries as a testament to his mastery of not just speed but songwriting and dexterous technique
