I did particularly enjoy the moment at the start of the drama where the female lead wakes up as her 18 year old self and marvels at how young she looks... despite looking exactly the same as she had two minutes ago as she was dying at the age of 40 Enjoying this drama for the 'find that special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life' main couple vibes

YouKu is really on a streak as far as period idol drama is concerned: Blossom In Adversity, The Double and now The Grand Princess, it’s hit after hit.

I love the couple, their familiarity with each other is so nice to watch

I'm actually enjoying this drama a lot. It's just my preferred genre tbh, I love the drama revolving around palace and imperial families. Quite refreshing to see the character of Prince consort, as it's normally the Princess who becomes the consort. Their acting is very much upto the mark, THEY HAVE CHEMISTRY! The setup, the makeup, everything is upto my liking. So far, good. I hope it becomes entertaining upto the last episode.

I like the fact that both characters know and accept the fact that they are reborn. And I like their relationship.

It is a rare case to see a Chinese drama using the power of language to get ahead. Not gorgeous visuals, but language. The bickering between the two was so real and so amusing. Then again, create memorable scenes by what is actually said, like when the ML finally decides not to stomp away speechless and frustrated, but actually explain to the princess the necessity of her gauging emotions accurately. She needs to figure out what people feel and want; that of course includes herself. Excellent scenes in eps 13 and 14 which Avenue X hasn’t yet watched. I personally enjoy this drama very much, though of course anyone can figure out where it’s going, it’s not that hard.

You're right. The attractive thing about this drama is that it embodies that dream...who hasn't ever dreamed of returning to the age of 17 and fantasized about what decisions we would change? Let's not ask for psychological depths, but the topic is attractive, and they are so NATURAL!. As for The Double, you were right: I ended up totally dizzy with the "camera close-ups" that only distorted the face of the first actress, or how to make a pretty girl look like a Martian... I would have never have known they dubbed the ML voice until you just spoiled my fantasy. I love the ML's voice. I am actually waiting patiently for episode 23 at the moment. We found out a big reveal in episode 22, so 23 will be a pivotal turning point in the story. I am loving this story. The chemistry between the Male and Female lead is amazing. The story never gets boring, it's just always moving. It's not the greatest drama I've ever watch, but it is definitely ENTERTAINING and keeps you coming back.

My favourite thing about the drama is that unlike other rebirth dramas, the characters aren't rehashing significant details or events of their past life. Things are the same and yet most things happen differently than they remember or don't even happen at all. In other dramas, the character that travels back usually knows that a certain problematic event, whether major or minor; is going to happen at a certain time and uses the knowledge they had from their previous life to solve the problem. A lot of times that can feel like cheating and makes the character a bit Mary Sue-ish(cough SOKP cough) but since the characters in this drama don't really have the exact same problems they did in their old lives, they use their wits and tools currently at their disposal to solve them without relying on foreknowledge.

I'm really enjoying it so far. Nothing overtly bad about the drama and the dynamic between the leads in well-written. I haven't been able to lose myself in a cdrama since A Dream of Splendor and Love Between Fairy and Devil. The camera work and editing is really, really good.

I am enjoying their banter😂 but fight scenes are pretty ridiculous, you are right. There was a boomerang sword on the battlefield a few episodes back, and I rolled my eyes. Like, really? It's a straight long object. Why would it come back to you?!!😂😂😂

I would say this series is on a relaxed side, cause the leads already know eo and the people who are around them, it really makes you feel relaxed and just enjoy what they’re doing, in other dramas the anxiousness of the characters to show themselves and to hardly get to know eo gives you the same feels as well but this one the comfort zone they provide for eo is really well delivered to the audience as well and that’s a unique experience.

I was waiting for your review and I love your outfit and headpiece ❤ First episode: Can’t believe they couldn’t get any hair and makeup expert to change the look of the young actor and actress. I have seen a lot of young Chinese makeup artists online who could have done a better job. Even her sickly makeup was not believable. But the interplay and banter of the main actors is entertaining. Her small relapses of acting old are the best (her mid afternoon exercises, taking 😴 naps and her unapologetic bashful pursuits of Mr Su) am loving it.

This drama getting better and better . Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes.

I agree with all your points. This is focused on the romance and not politics, wars, or anything else. I am glad Zhang Linghe is dubbed because he actually sounds much better and it improves his "acting". There aren't that many tropes and the side characters get enough time for themselves without overshadowing the leads. There isn't much difference between athe 40 old vs the 20 old selves. It seems the teens have the wisdom of their older self so they are less naive about things. As for their relationship, they both are trying to make a match for the other person. And their own relationship is more like and old married couple with all the digs and gaffs and how she is always hitting him on the head. He's apparently not as bad as she thought. It seemed he did love her, but she was the one who grew cold toward him and they drifted apart.

Started watching this one over the weekend. Really enjoying it and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't take a weird left turn or something down the road.

When I first watched this drama, it gave me "Queen of Tears" vibe. The OST also sounds more like a Korean drama than a Chinese drama. I found it entertaining and enjoyable, and I recommend it.

I dropped this drama because i cant get over The Double. But i did enjoy some scenes.

I like the drama. similar to AASOL the scenes of billiard games only comes secondary to the beautiful romantic scenes of FL & ML continue to trend w/ their great chemistry, act naturally & convincing on portraying their roles, so it’s the same in Royal Prncess, I enjoyed the natural acting of Jinmai & Linghie scenes in funny and romantic scene, Jinmai is awesome in narrating &delivering her dialogues plus she’s so attractive playing the role as Princess.

Im finding hard to follow up the drama, the story is good but I just dont have that feeling "I want to watch the new ep NOW"

I thought it was a good drama, I am always attracted to the figure of the "evil" character, whether male or female (sometimes they are much more interesting than the "good" ones !). I don't like series that leave me hanging in the middle without knowing the ending. "The Princess" entertains, to pass the time. It's not one of the worst, let's hope that this half of the year the dramas IMPROVE a little...

Oh my God, I also feel the Queen of Tears vibe in this drama. I completely love the pairing of Mai and Ling He here. The way they portrayed a 20 years marriage relationship in 18-20 years old body is justtt soo good. I like whenever they realise their mistakes in the first marriage. It is so convincing that the two definitely look like a real couple arguing with each other. You know.. the spark was gone but hearts can't lie. Not only that, Jinmai and Heyi also create an intense chemistry. So intense that it disturbs me because I am into the lead couple XD.

Not fair, us Nordic people don't have such fun hair accessories! 😛 We have braids, stuff to put in the braids, but have not seen anything like this. Granted, I don't know all, just saying, I like it, 😃.

I agree, the cinematography was disappointing and lazy which is where it could have leveraged. There was a confession in the rain scene which was 'meh' just water wasted. I loved the novel and the fact the drama is faithful to a good novel. It's a very mature drama, I can understand why it doesn't have wide appeal. The Double is deliciously troupe but I was full after a few episode.

Li Rong character is very unique..she ia soft in side but circumstances and palace live force her to be tough... And she is soo content with herself..lol...but she is broadminded person ao she ia willing to accept insight from other people.. And I llove the relationship with ML character...the bickering but also flirting..and they are very convenience with each other inthis second life chance...gigle when I watch Fuma ask for money from his future wife or his previous time wife😂

How boring must things be that excite a drama where the protagonists talk? Yes, they simply talk, say things to each other and much of the time they act maturely. I have problems with some aspects of the drama but nothing that makes me hate it.

Like it's mentioned in the video, it's not the best romance nor the best comedy, and certainly not the best period drama - it is, however, CHARMING. That is a quality that is easily lost in big serious productions, so I'm happy to have found it in this drama and am enjoying it.

The drama is not bad but It lacks the crackastic addicting flavor that made "The Double" the hottest drama of June. That craze that made people hate week ends and love week days for "The Double", that drama here doesn't have that for me. And personally Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He chemistry doesn't make me go "wow". It is here but it is too forgettable for me. All in all the drama is there.

Wait is this really 40 ep long? Now im worried if i can finish since i dropped The Double and that one was popular. I see the same issues you mentioned with this one in the lack of care in the politics. Makes it hard to believe so it makes me tune out. If the romance doesnt romance then i probably wont make it to the end. So far, im enjoying rhe crown prince's story more and second male lead's story. He's a lot more complex so far and im curious to see what they do with him.

Im currently watching the Grand Princess. I am entertained so far. With Double, I am not sure if I like the last episode, with Blossom in Adversity, I love the opening sound track it's very addictive.

Cdramas are so boring lately, even this couldn’t keep me watching so I started the kdramas "my sweet mobster" and "miss night and day" and they’re both so much fun 🤩

The long ballad used 2D Animation to show the battles and other events ,it was good idea to deal with budget issues.

It’s a good thing I literally never understand these war and politics 😅 no matter if it’s illogical or not. My brain doesn’t compute any political conversations in dramas😂

Eh, it's an okay drama, but it's not addictive. I blame it on the directing and writing. A lot of the lines could've been told through visual story-telling, but they chose verbal lines instead, it just doesn't appeal to me because I have to listen and read the subs too often to understand. I'm not sold on the chemistry either, maybe the storyline did not sell the emotions right. If anything, you can tell a lot of budget went into this drama. I actually like the side characters, such as the crown prince, more than the main couple. I had so much expectation, since I had read the novel. This drama is passable, but not great.

I am much more tempted to compare TPR to Story of Kunning Palace, rather than The Double.

One thing about Avenue is if she’s enjoys a drama no matter how bad the colour contrasts or pallet is she’ll manage to give that drama a good review even if the isn’t all that. If she’s hates a drama or didn’t find good enough for her no matter how good the drama is she’ll find a way to downplay the drama. But I’ll keep watching your review it just something I’ve notice over the last two years of watching ur reviews

I really like the concept of this drama!! “If you could go back and time and remake some choices, what would you do?” Unfortunately sometimes I forget what I’m watching/ what the whole goal is, of this second shot at life. 😅

I am loving this drama and I'm convinced the Su Rongqing character is also reborn...I'm side eyeing him big time! What I'm scratching my head over is why a Princess Royal only has 2 outfits/costumes...I'm already tired of her wardrobe. Really good though and the episodes move really quickly.

In my opinion, the one plot line that brought any tension to the drama - that the ML and FL were BOTH reincarnated was resolved way too quickly. For me, they should have stretched out that storyline for a few more episodes. All the Cdramas lately are just on a cycle of rinse and repeat.

I've started watching this as The Princess Royal and am only on ep 8. The leads seem to wander between ennui at having to do this all over again to a pleasant familiarity they find surprising in each other. Where to go from here they wonder? Will squeeze in Lost You Forever when it airs but find what I'm watching now too tasty not to keep indulging.

This is very much similar to 1930s screwball comedies in how the leads interact with each other and that’s refreshing in cdrama.

The characters has too much dialogue than action, making the drama somewhat boring.

Only the first 10-12 episodes are fun to watch now logic and plot took serious hits. She was so against the royal family and defended noble families with her life in the past but now she is so against them...!! But never admitted that she was wrong. She takes both for her actions past and the present as justifiable...!! Like how?? In one moment we see she was so in love with both her husband and lover then in the next moment we see she never took love seriously, never had any expectations from love...!!! One moment ready to kill anyone who tries to harm her husband, the next moment doesn't care much about her seriously injured husband...!! The contradictory characteristics of the main lead are seriously painful to watch.

Just finished albeit with a lot of interruptions from various intruders. Sad to see Su Rong-yi lose out at last. Poor guy who tried so hard but got lost in his own machinations to stop history from repeating itself. It's all abt changing the variables to arrive at a different outcome & he poor thing simply got caught up in his own devious plots.

Iam totally enjoying this drama and lets not talk about the mL who good looks and acting to me just draws you in. Looking foward to every episode.

I have a question about Chinese Drama Land - I've done a little (a tiny amount) research about foot binding, finding out that from the 10-11 century, a good portion of the Chinese female population had their feet bound. Has this ever been in CDramas? Or even eluded to? Just curious with your understanding of this cultural phenomenon.
