Hey man great reaction. I'm a lifelong dedicated football (soccer) player and fan so I can answer some questions for you. First off, yes he is still playing. He's 33 now but became pro at 17 which is why some clips are much older. That clip you mentioned looked old was in 2007 when he was 19 and he dribbled the entire team and scored lol. You should find videos of him as a teenager literally embarrassing grown men it's remarkable. Everybody knew from the time he was 15 that he had the potential to be the greatest of all time, and he exceeded expectations. And he makes more than 100 million per year making him one of the highest paid athletes in the world. In terms of his gameplay, you were spot on with him being so complete. The crazy thing is this video doesn't come close to showing how complete he actually is. Messi is undeniably the greatest dribbler of all time. Even the biggest Messi hater would admit that. It's literally impossible to stop him 1v1 so coaches only option is to try to stop him with multiple defenders (still doesn't work). On top of that, he's the best scorer of all time as well. He holds the world record for most goals ever scored in a year with 91 goals in a calendar year lmao. To give some context, if a striker scores 30 goals in a season, he is world class and easily one of the best strikers in the world. Messi scored 73 goals in one season and has averaged 50 goals per season for the last 10 years straight. Messi is literally the greatest of all time in every single one of those categories simultaneously. On top of that, he has been easily the top player in the world for 13 or 14 years straight now and is still absolutely dominating at the age of 33. Through the decade of 2010-2019 Messi had the most goals, most assists, and the most completed dribbles out of any player in the world. Literally not one player led him in any of those categories. His production and consistency are seriously incomprehensible and will likely never be matched by any player in any sport. Also he's not flashy. You can find youtube videos of players like Neymar who do crazy flicks and flashy moves, and Messi does none of that. Because of that, someone who doesn't watch football or have a deep knowledge of the game would likely think a player like Neymar is more talented because of how skillful and flashy he is, but the truth is Messi just makes everything look soooo simple and easy to do when in reality literally nobody in history has been able to do a fraction of what he does. I thank god every single day that I have been privileged to watch Messi week in and week out for over 10 years now. The Greatest. these highlight reels can never do Messi justice. Watch 3 or 4 Barcelona games and you'll see that his contribution to the overall game is much bigger than flashy dribbles. His awareness and vision allow him to dictate play as much when he does not have the ball as when he does. his passes to team mates are beautiful and his drawing of players out of position, allow team mates space and time they might not otherwise have.
