My favorite new singer-songwriter. Huge range of styles. He released his first album with Shooter Jennings as producer. It's this ecclectic wonderful mix that sounds like any one of them should be in a movie. Man, Im first on the listen when he releases something new.

Thank you for reacting to Avi! Yes this is fire 🔥!! Avi’s solo music is varied and deep. He uses his entire range covering 5 octaves, so he doesn’t always put his bass in for forefront. Most of his music uses his bass for layering or accents. Many songs are only his high register. If you like this and are looking for something similar from Avi, I recommend “Get Down” and “Chains”. Both are audio only but amazing. Get Down is my favorite song of his that he performs live. Subbing for more Avi. Thank you! 🥰

Exactly! Aberdeen, The Otherside, I'll Get By, All is Well all very different but each fabulous in its own way. (even if All is Well made me cry like a baby)

This song was released in March 2019, when he was finally allowed to release his own music per the separation contract when he left PTX in 2017. His catalog is broad in style and genre, but as was said in another comment, it's essentially Americana/Folk. Right now, however, he's said that he's experimenting with rock and blues in the songs he's currently writing. Once you check out the Sunset Sound version of his original "When I'm a Fool", you'll see why that's an exciting thing to look forward to. (By the way, the vast majority of the songs he performs are his originals.)

Avi! 🥰 His voice, the kindness and lyrics that reply to me...gosh! I never get tired listening to this young man. "Otherside" , "Aberdeen" and "All is well" is other favs but the whole album ("Floating on a dream") is terrific. He´s not very mainstream in music and lyrics and sometime you need that too. Love him!

For something completely different i suggest All is Well 7layers session #126 or When I'm a Fool live from Sunset Sound or First Place I Go. All are different from each other. Love your reactions. Can't wait to see your reaction to Scott's song, Mars (the choir version of his vocals will melt your brain cells!). And, then, Kevin's cover of Down is musical genius! I think I recall you saying you like 'anthem' music in which case Avi's song I'm Only Getting Started (the black and white official video) is one you will love. It is my personal anthem song as I work on new and callenging projects. Really pumps me up. All of the Avi suggestions in these comments are dope. The Live Sunset recordings are 🔥. I caught him live here in Ventura and it was amazing. He keeps that deep rock soul vibe and throws in a steel guitar. It was by far one of the most ingenious mixes of soul and music I have ever experienced. My kid fell all over herself when I told her we were going and she absolutely loved every minute of it. Not one bad song on his list

Avi is the most talented artist I've ever heard. Plays multiple instruments, composes,sings,arranges and performs live like a superstar. Humble, kind, gentle and so down to earth. Try When I'm a Fool live at Sunset Sound, All is Well 7 layer sessions or b/w video of I'm only getting started. Then you can go back to dozens of his early solo stuff. All great. Thanks

Thank you for reacting to Avi's solo music. There are a lot of great song suggestions here , but honestly you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. It's almost impossible to pick a favorite, but there are some I listen to often. "Chains" (it's been used in several TV shows), "It Knows Me", "Aberdeen" , "All is Well -- 7 Layers Sessions", "The Other Side" (I find the video comforting, almost mesmerizing ), :He Don't Love You Right" (really shows off his higher range), and "Try To Get It Right". Avi' s voice, music and lyrics have a way of reaching deep within your soul.

I'm so glad you liked this! Most of the rest of his songs have a very different, mostly folk vibe, but are amazing! I recommend All is Well, He Don't Love You Right, It Knows Me, Chains, Full Moon, and Quarter Past Four. You should definitely give the other PTX member's solo stuff a shot: Mars by Scott, Naked or Break a Little by Kirstin, Love Supply by Messer (Mitch), and Down by KO (Kevin). And then Superfruit for Scott and Mitch (Rise or Imaginary Parties are great ones).😁

I don't know if you realize it, but you said, "this one is fire." Yes it is, literally and figuratively. lol. You don't just listen to Avi's music, you feel it. You can't go wrong with any of his songs, but two of my favorites are "When I'm a Fool -- Live at Sunset Sound," and "All is Well -- 7 Layers Sessions." Enjoy!

Avi has depression and this song is about him coming out of it and falling back in love with life and music. I also have depression and it has torn through my life. I don't think many people understand how difficult mental illness is. To have to fight your own mind everyday Is exhausting and It tears at my soul. Although I have lost many battles with it I am winning the war. I always have my eyes, my soul looking for that change on the rise.

Avi Kaplan, my favorite solo singer. I find his deep voice and music so unique. It has something magical, something spiritual. Each time it really touches my heart and soul. Besides being a good singer, he is also a great songwriter. Just like this song. You just get pulled into the song, you empathize with it. Really awesome. Because of him I used to love listening to Pentatonix. But since he left, PTX doesn't appeal to me at all. Not that PTX is bad, no on the contrary. But it doesn't affect me anymore.

Love Avi's music!!! His voice is sooo smooth. House of the Rising Sun is another cover of his and it's so good. You should check out Scott's solo Mars! It is a masterpiece! Mitch's solo stuff is under the name Messer and it is very different. Angels Pray, Roses and Love Supply are a couple to get you started.

Thanks for this and yes definitely a dope voice. Avi is a singer-songwriter. The producer on his latest record, Floating On a Dream, was Shooter Jennings. He's trending more folk rock now than he used to. Bass guitar, guitar, drums and pedal steel. He opens with Born in California and ends with Change On the Rise. Kaleb Jones, his bass player, has co-writing credit on several songs on the album. The Sunset Sound recordings were amazing and his pianist on the sessions was excited to be using the same 🎹 that Prince used. I prefer singer-songwriters to cover artists so I am very happy with Avi in his solo career.

Do'nt think it's about this but i'm ready to fight...LOL Avi is the deep rumble sounding like thunder, throw in lightning flashes....that drive is just PUMPED!!! Avi is a bad man vocally!!! First Place I Go and It Knows Me follow along from the theme in this song, which he wrote about his battle with and through depression. When listened as a group with Quarter of Four (written as he was leaving the group) as the prelude, you really get a deeper understanding of where he went in the journey.

All Pentatonix past and present members are Very dope. They compliment each other so well, I feel in part because they can stand alone just as well. They aren’t afraid to speak up if they aren’t feeling things right. They also know how to work thru any issues to bring them back in harmony. If you wanna check out the other end of the scale and spectrum check out Messer (Mitch Grassi) I haven’t found a lot from him but they are out there. Seems like I recall something causing him to change his channel maybe and so you have to get to the right one. I know I’ve search a couple times and someone completely different comes up. You’ll find it though. Whole other side of music

LOVE THIS SONG! So glad you got to check it out. Also, I'm sure she's been recommended before, but if you haven't listedn to Fouzia yet, she will absolutely blow your mind. My personal recommendations are her piano versions of Bad Dreams or Exothermic, her live performance of Tears of Gold, the Stripped version of You Don't Even Know Me, or any of the versions of Minefields with John Legend. While the production on the studio versions are gorgeous, the live versions show that the incredible notes you hear her hitting and the vibrato are ALL her--nothing adjusted, tweaked, autotuned, or boosted anywhere.
