@@laurentelesca3921 alot of the Bass Nation guys use subharmonics. A technique that Geoff Castellucci of Voiceplay uses all the time. Avi mentioned he hadn't learned it and might someday in a livestream. Since Avi mentioned how tired he was of people coming up to him and demanding he sing a low note, he stopped using them just for dramatic effect. That was his personal choice as an artist. Other singers will make other choices. Peter is exploring his sound as an artist right now and including that technique.

I've been (impatiently) waiting for this since you announced it, and it was *so* worth the wait! Your voice is like semi-sweet, hot buttered rum for the ears. And yes! Major shoutout to Marwan for his editing wizardry. The whole package is a treat. Beautifully done!

As with most of your songs, I had to listen to this a few times to catch all those amazing little pieces layered in that I missed the first and second time. This is wonderful! I love how you keep that otherworldly, ethereal feel of the original with those light "bum bum bum"s and of course the high "oohs". Plus, those bedrock low notes are super goosebumpy, especially the D1! The color themes in the video are really neat, and I always like getting to see video recordings for all the vocal parts (I'm kind of a nerd for "what does producing that sound look like?"). Beautiful and really impressive arrangement--just fantastic! Also, is that an actual drum doing the "boom"s, or are you doing that vocally, like Avi does? I can't tell if it's detached or if it's, like, an accented vocal note leading right into the low drone. (And I mean that in a good way.)

Thank you! Those booms are the one non-acapella element in the song - Marwan wanted to add those to make those sections a bit more epic. But Avi’s version is not acapella - aside from the acapella Academy he started, he left all that behind with PTX when he switched to solo stuff

Oh, I know Avi's version isn't a capella! I just meant that he has used his voice to simulate that kind of drum boom before, at least in Change on the Rise, maybe others. (At least according to many, many Avi-fan KZfaq commenters on his video for CotR and various reaction videos--I confess to not checking for myself, but if I really listen I can hear it as a voice rather than a drum.) Poor phrasing on my part. Thanks for responding!

Having listened from the original raw vocals and followed the development through to this wonderful conclusion I commend you both (you and Marwan) for your incredible combined talents. Music can only survive through variation and creativity, and from Avi's original, you have made something different and fabulously ethereal. Wonderful, brava tutti! Fantastic work from both of you! The arrangement is really nice and the visuals with the different colored backgrounds and clothing are a wonderful touch and a cool Hommage to Avis original video. I really love Marwans editing style but tbh. I‘m not too happy with how it worked here with the song. To me there were too many visual changes in a short amount of time from like 1x Peter to 3x Peter to 8x Peter to 5x Peter to 10x Peter. Longer shots would’ve worked better here in my opinion. And the typical Marwan transition effect between these different shots also didn’t quite work with the song. I just think this editing style works absolutely amazing for fast paced music but not something like a calm and relaxing Avi song. Especially since in his original video there are only a handful of cuts and very long shots if I remember correcty. Nonetheless you both did some amazing work here and I can’t wait for more things from you!

Whoahhhhh okay that was not what I expected. I did expect Awsomeness considering esp that marwan did the arrangement top props to you Marwan. But holy .. mother I didn't watch I listened twice and watched a little the third time . Now I NEED to listen to avi version. There were a few joining of the voices that seemed off to me somehow but having only heard this 3 times it could just be me. Peter please keep doing what your doing! So glad you're enjoying it! Also Marwan did the audio and video editing, but I made the arrangement (and recorded everything, of course). The lip sync might seem odd at times, but only because there are so many harmonies happening -- they should all be lined up well if you can find the right one(s) to watch

There are some benefits from helping our boy here pay for his groceries and devaluing them is essentially stealing food from his plate, so I won't.

This is definitely different from the original song. But it feels a lot more intense and peaceful than Avi's. It might have to do with how your voice types or even your vocal/music styles too. But this version kept my attention the whole way and I really did enjoy it! If I may suggest something?? Maybe instead of adding more higher pitched tenor parts to the overall arrangement (I think??) maybe experiment with a mostly baritone/bass arrangement with your usual vocal style?? Or a mix between an operatic and acapella vocal style?? Mostly because I can't help but feel that you're not giving yourself enough creative room/freedom to experiment with your vocals outside of your classical training and it's holding you back just a little bit. I could be wrong and I apologize for possibly overstepping my bounds if I am. Besides that, I can't wait to see what other covers you yourself and the Bass Gang choose to do and release in the near future!

I really like these suggestions, and I've actually tried them before -- the tricky part is that classical technique tends to not work well in this kind of music, and it doesn't "play well with others," so to speak -- the vibrato makes vocal blending not work as well. As as for bass/bari harmonies, they make the overall sounds super "muddy" if there's too many of them. Lower frequencies take up more of the headspace in a mix, so you have to use them sparingly. It's actually probably the hardest part about making these bass covers (or the stuff with The Bass Gang) -- it's difficult to keep clarity in the sound with a bunch of bass background underneath bass lead vocals and harmonies

@@PeterBarber Ah, I see. Hmm, is it because of the sound frequency difference between the higher tenor range versus the baritone and bass ones?? I have noticed over the years that the lower registers tend to amplify the higher ones when mixed together as a means of "supporting them", so to speak. And I also notice it when I go into my own lower register with singing along to a song with a tenor/soprano singer too. The lower registers tend to get overpowered or "swallowed up" by the higher ones. Which is a shame honestly. But I understand what you mean. And thank you for taking the time to reply 😊!

This is a bit late, but I thought you might enjoy this version of "Otherside" that Avi arranged for choir and performed back in April 2019, right after he released the song. This was a high school choir festival, with over 200 young singers, and they sang both Avi originals and PTX covers.
