In 1953 body panels changed to 22 gauge steel. In the early 80's it went thinner than 22 gauge. 20 gauge would be for a box section of floor pan/frame.

Hello. I'm a electromechanical student at Fidelitas University in Costa Rica. I'm taking Metallurgy class and I have a final project, which consist in explaining the process of creating any kind of hand tool or piece of metal, and choosing the proper steel. I've been searching a lot a couldn't find the exact alloy you guys use for blades. Can I have at least a hint? Do you use tool steel like M2 or do you use HSLA steel like a 4140 (chromoly steel)?

If anyone reads this in the future, please don't listen to that dumbass reply. The hardness of 60 to 62 will destroy all those things. Making sure you don't exceed the jaw capacity is the only issue and that is more to do with how it is built not that the cutting edges would fail.

@@wesleybeavers1930 I use mine this morning to cut hard shell lobster claws from my dinner last night here in Maine because the hard shell lobster claws wouldn't give way to a 3 Pound Hammer I can report that the snips worked perfectly and still do

@@Coastwiser that makes sense, I should have specified about metal objects. Like electrical wire, wire, or rope. Stuff like that might botch the jaws or even worse, spring them. I cut pookie bucket lids with mine all the time.
