72 years old and haven't flown in 40 years but did have a private sel and around 125 hrs before I went inactive. Still love aviation and stay glued to KZfaq. Your videos are among the clearest, most informative, and entertaining I have found. Looking forward to viewing many more.

Damn sir, your story and mine are similar..only difference is itz only been 20 yrs since for me and I'm 54...so I have a little more time on my side..and am going to get current plus get the IFR before my life is canceled and I'm ordered back to heaven.

@@philipzanoni Damn sir, I'm also 54, inactive for 20 years, about 300 hours, commercial cert. & instrument rated. I'll begin re-currency and training for CFI soon. I want to supplement my career of working on F-35s at Lockheed.

So great.. I got my VFR sel 20 yrs ago..shortly there after my then girlfriend tricked me into marrying Her and after that the kids came and I had to let my dream of getting my IFR and then multi engine carrier in aviation go ..... ..... .... .....I've been depressed ever since.. my dream was lost.. But now my youngest daughter is really interested in flying (17) .. So I'm going to get current then go for the IFR, ..but most importantly..take my girl up.. Maybe she'll go on to fly for fun and make it a career... Thanks for this inspiring video. I know its 5 yrs old..and I am subscribed to your channel and watch your recent material..but these older gems are timeless. Thanks Josh!! If you're ever in JAX Fl. Give me a hollar.. I'd love for you to take me and my daughter up ..it'd be an honor To meet you.

I love this channel. I've wanted to fly since I was a little boy, then life happened. Now I'm a middle aged guy, and starting to look back at all the dreams I had when I was a boy. Flying is top of my list. I can't do it yet, so I really enjoy watching this channel to begin to familiarize myself with what lies ahead.

So many of us never followed our dreams...sad isn't it...I'm 54 and have had many "if only" or " wish I hadda" moments...as a youth we just dont realize how time flies by.. Dammit huh?

My aviation background: I was born and raised in the birthplace of aviation; W.P.A.F.B., Dayton, Ohio. My dad flew in the Navy. As a teen in the mid 70's I would walk to a little country airport (I44) and sit at the end of the runway and watch the airplanes take off and land. I'd chat with the pilots and eventually, the FBO offered me a job as a line-boy. I'd fuel and clean airplanes. While there I took some flying lessons and completed ground school. So at 15 years old, I was flying airplanes before I was driving cars :-) But life happened and I ran out of money and time. In High School, I started a vocational Airframe & Powerplant course, but I struggled with the math and couldn't complete the class. However, I never lost my love of aviation. I spent many a weekend at the National Museum of the USAF at W.P.A.F.B. Every year I'd attend the Dayton International Airshow. Fast-Forward Four and a half decades later......... Towards the end of 2021, I was forced to sell my beloved '79 MGB British Roadster. I was determined to get my Private Pilot Certificate using the funds from the sale. I turned 60 years old on December 21, 2022. It was my goal to earn my Private Pilot Certification by then. At the beginning of 2022, I started studying/researching everything I could online in regard to getting my Private Pilot Certificate. 12Mar2022 - I enrolled in Gold Seal Online Ground School. 01Apr2022 - I passed my physical and was issued a 3rd Class Medical Certificate. 10Apr2022 - I joined Pacific Coast Flyers flying club and started my Flight Training. 19Apr2022 - I was issued a Temporary FAA Student Airmen Certificate. 19May2022 - I completed the Gold Seal Online Ground School Course. 06Jun2022 - I received my FAA Student Airmen Certificate [card]. 10Jun2022 - I passed the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam. Score: 97! 23Jul2022 - First Solo 21Oct2022 - I passed my Check-Ride and was issued a Private Pilot Certificate!! WHAT AN ADVENTURE!

Thanks for showing a full ILS approach and the instrumentation. I'm an armchair pilot, and I've had the VFR flying down for a little while, so it's nice to see someone walk through an ILS approach.

Excellent approach! I got my Instrument ticket about 35 years ago and quit because I was out of money. Sure miss flying, but technology has advanced so much, I’d have start all over again!

The big SIGH when you were told "on request" for the ILS! Reminds me of my first actual, solo IMC x-country from GGG to SAT. High, puffy cumulous prevailed, which I filed for the middle of (HAD to have some IMC). SAT was surprised when I insisted on the ILS 23R to end my flight. There are few satisfactions in life like a good hand-flown instrument approach ending with breaking out of clouds and a runway right in front of you! Spectacular, encouraging video!

After watching your Videos for about a year i visited our local aviation club. i had my first flight ever, we flew around our city in a Robin DR400. We have a Grass runway here, the moment when the shaking stoped and we started to climb was amazing. Not gonna lie, i was scared, my legs kept shaking for solid 5 minutes. For the first 10 minutes i was looking at our right wing and the only thing i was able to thing about was "please don´t break, please don´t break". We climbed to about 300m which is around 984ft. The View was simply stunning. I´ve never felt that good while beeing so nervous at the same time. I will definitely go there again and maybe take a ride on a Cessna 172. I´m actually thinking about joining our aviation club and start to fly myself. I just hope i can stop beeing nervous and just enjoy beeing in the air. Stay safe Greetings from Germany Andre

Great video! I got my instrument rating many moons ago in a Piper Arrow using VORs, a wrist watch, a pencil and a clipboard. It looked a lot like this video. It was loads of fun even given the pucker factor of flying in solid white or gray air. I strongly advise all pilots to go for the rating. It's a lot of work --- and expensive --- but vastly expands your capabilities and can be a life saver. And it's a lot of fun.

I like the way you explain things on your IFR flights, talk your way through the approach, show the plates, show the plane on the plates in relation to where you are on the approach, etc, etc, etc. Very informative. Keep it up. :)

That was a great video. Loved the narrative and the camera angles especially the instrument shots. The landing indeed showed more than a 5kt cross wind. Looked like you were about 10 degrees nose left in the crab. Great job.

I practice approaches at KTKI all the time in both my F33 and C340. If we ever move closer to McKinney I will change my base airport from KADS to KTKI. The approaches there are perfect.

Nice job. I was hoping to hear you get a wind check because you're right, that was more than a 5kt x-wind. Nice slip there too. Almost all of my approaches, I practice shooting them a little high and slipping the plane to loose altitude. Lots of fun.

Great job,highest respect for your knowledge of flying. Met a pilot yesterday that wants to take me up,he is an instructor. Glad I watched your video,gives me much respect for his knowledge. You remained poised under great stress in the clouds,looked scary too me not knowing where you were. Instrument training seems to be a necessity,if you fly long distances. Experience with knowledge produces that peace. There seems to be a spiritual message in instrument flying,like how a Christian should feel,trusting in God. Can’t see exactly where you’re going,but if you trust him,he will lead you to take the right steps. Enjoyed your teaching,thanks Robert Neitzschman

Yep. The pilot was very pleased, as he should have been. Such perfect landings are rare. As a student Private Pilot on my first cross-country I totally greased the airplane onto my home runway, with not even a chirp from the landing gear. My instructor complimented me on it and I just nodded as if it were planned. Anybody who shoots pools and accidentally makes an amazing shot would understand.

Textbook crosswind landing, needles crossed all the way down, the only thing you missed was vocalizing the decision altitude at 776 feet at about 17:45 or so, particularly because you did announce that you were not going visual yet when you started to pop out of the clouds. Great job.

If anyone young is reading this...don't quit!! There are a surprising number of comments of guys that are regrettably low time pilots that were never able to continue flying.for one reason or the other....me included.. And wishing we had stuck with it.. Do what ever it takes to keep your wings....so you won't be like us wishing we had. "Do today what most people won't , So you can do tomorrow what most people can't.."
