ChatGPT : "In American English, the expression 'go off' is not commonly used to describe bad food. Instead, terms like 'spoiled' or 'bad' are used to describe food that has gone bad or is unsuitable to eat. Saying 'GO OFF for food' in the USA might lead to confusion or misunderstanding, as it is not the typical way to express that the food is bad. If you want to convey that the food is bad or has gone bad, it would be clearer to use phrases like 'The food has gone bad' or 'The food is spoiled.'"

This was even helpful for me as a native English speaker in the U. S. But I experienced a little humor in my mind regarding "the wedding went off without a hitch", since an informal expression for getting married is "getting hitched". It could be said that the couple got hitched without a hitch.

Hello Kevin Can you please check? It's from a dictionary. If food or drink goes off, it is not good to eat or drink any more because it is too old: This bacon smells a bit funny - do you think it's gone off? See also off adjective (BAD) mainly UK Fewer examples Put the milk back in the fridge or else it will go off. That meat looks like it's gone off. Cream will go off very quickly if it is not kept in the fridge.

Go off is correct in british english. I as an english learner study both meanings because It wont harm to know the english connotations of each country where is spoken english. US is not the center of the world.

It's not commonly used in the US. I've only heard it on British TV. We also use "learned" instead of "learnt," which is more common in British English.
