I’m assuming some of y’all have never lived in LA, Boston, or NYC to talk about traffic. If you do not enjoy the outdoors regardless of the weather, seattle is not for you. Embrace the rain, get boots, rain gear and go hiking in the moss forest.

I’ve lived in LA, been to NYC plenty of times, and currently live near Seattle. Every place with the traffic sucks but I especially hate Seattle traffic. Not only do people suck at driving, but they simply don’t care. They, unlike LA, acknowledge the fact that there is other cars, but they don’t care. They’ll drive through you if they can.

Been in Seattle for a little over a decade, and coming from FL...Seattle is paradise. Drivers aren't as crazy as Cali or FL, and Seattle isn't as big as NYC/LA and not in the middle of nowhere like Idaho/Alabama. No humidity, less pollen to affect allergies and a few "heat wave" days. No real natural disasters other than a few smoky hazy summer days from neighboring wildfires. Love the rain myth too, since it's currently October 2022 and there hasn't been a rainy day since "Juneuary". We've honestly had sunny days for over half the year lol. And all of Seattle isn't trashy. Just Ballard, Aurora Ave and downtown. The rest of Seattle proper is pretty clean, quiet, and picturesque. The price points are true tho. A 1.2 mil Seattle house will cost 500K in Everett, 450K in Fed Way, 525K in Tacoma, 1.9mil in Bellevue. All over the place.

You did a great job of explaining & outlining the main downsides of living here. I was born & raised here and have seen a dramatic change in driving habits & traffic in just the past 10 years. In fact, my commute to work (when I'm not working at home) consists of only 24 miles, is about 1/3 back roads/rural roads & does not include any major highways. 9 years ago this commute only took 45 minutes, it's now a 75 - 90 minute drive. Add to that, the many folks who don't seem to be familiar with traffic laws or who drive very aggressively, plus road construction and the drive has pretty much become a nightmare. That said, we do live in one of the most beautiful places in the US and there is so much to enjoy outdoors here with all of our lakes, rivers, forests, beaches & mountains, it's difficult to imagine living anywhere else.

used to live in Edmonds, 15-20 mins outside of Seattle, as a child for about 2 years in the very early 90s. I still remember how amazing that place was and always wanted to move to the Seattle region again, so it saddens me to see all these videos about how down hill everything has gone. The homelessness looks beyond repair, I am from the east coast and live in a pretty rough town but I never see homeless. Seeing videos with tents all over the place is literally shocking to me. We just don't have the homeless problem in the northeast that the west coast has, Its legitimately shocking.... and this is coming from someone who lives in the biggest (and worst) city in CT. So that says a lot!

The wildfire smoke especially sucks when it's an extremely hot day and you can't even open your windows because the smoke is so bad and you don't have any air conditioning. Many people end up renting a hotel room just so they can have AC and be able to sleep properly at night. A couple years back it was so bad that all the hotels were booked by locals just trying not to die from heat stroke! 🥵

I spent about 3 weeks in SEATAC and Bellvue WA in summer, 2012. The rain, ☔ & cold-cooler climate can be rough. I'm not 💯 sure I could live in a metro area like Seattle King County 365, 24-7. Seattle WA is hip, trendy, fairly clean(2012). The nice 🌲 are a +. Cost of living seemed a tad steep. 💲💲💲. The supermarkets, 🛒, stores had fresh foods, great QC-flavor. Note; a few chains moved out in 2020, 2021 due to riots, crimes.

I live in Puyallup for 6 years now and the traffic was fine for the first 3 years moving here, now the traffic getting into Puyallup from Edgewood is bad. I work in Seattle and it takes me on hour and half to get to work. On a good day it will take me 45 minutes. I hate driving because of accidents, road rage and traffic now, so I take the bus, Sounders train and the light rail to get to my destination.

Thanks for this video. It's all relative. I just moved to the burbs here from Southern California and LOVE Seattle. Compared to SoCal, it's scenic and serene. Far less crowded with tourists. Most people here are inclusive and self-expressive. So far I haven't seen the same superficiality and obsession with plastic surgery as in Cal. As a boomer, I appreciate how healthy and nature-conscious seniors are here. There is also a sophisticated vibe here that's missing from SoCal. I lived in Seattle for decades and just sold and left last summer. All this stuff is true, and has been for my adult life, and pertains to the general Seattle area, not just incorporated Seattle. What isn't mentioned is the out of control homelessness and skyrocketing property crime in incorporated Seattle, and worse crime than that is on the increase too. The situation is changing for the worse on a weekly basis it seems. Graffiti is covering everything in the business districts. There's more all the time. There are mentally ill everywhere. You have to watch your back when you're outside your house, and keep track of the homeless situation in your neighborhood. Maybe visit incorporated Seattle before you decide to move into Seattle proper. Notice the difference between incorporated Seattle and the East Side (Bellevue and Kirkland and Redmond) and the suburban townships to the north.

FYI, the regime in Seattle is doing its best to spread the homeless/drug love to the clean and orderly surrounding suburbs mentioned in the video, primarily through buying hotels in those communities (with little or no notice or coordination) and relocating said homeless, so the charming lifestyle created by the drug and alcohol users can be experienced more broadly. so you may want to avoid King County entirely. or the entire state.

Yes, it is much more expensive to live in north seattle than south: North of the ship canal bridge, you will be hard pressed to find a single family home under 500K, maybe with the exception of Lake City. In south seattle, more homes in the 400K range. Much whiter population in North Seattle and more black and brown people in South Seattle.

I only visited for about ten days a couple months ago, and I was expected a horror show. Having lived in LA in the past, I found the aggressive claims about Seattle to be nothing short of comical. I don’t doubt that it used to be nicer and safer. But what I saw was standard issue for any major city I’ve ever lived in. LA makes Seattle look like a paradise. At least based on what I saw. My guess is most people either grew up in Seattle before it inherited all its current and to-be-expected big city problems, or many moved here from more humble areas and by comparison it does seem very jarring and terrible. But based on what I saw… pretty normal big city conditions.

I also call BS on you blaming out of towners for the bad driving. There’s a lot of us that moved from the Midwest and Northeast that not only know how to drive in rain, but also know how to drive in SNOW. We’re also not timid compared to y’all out here who shouldn’t even be on the interstate, because y’all suck so bad as drivers. So no…two points where you are 💯 WRONG for the reasons you don’t think you’re wrong. 🙄

Boats galore - a fun sea fair. Number one most regressive tax structure in the nation Fantastic summers Massive multiple forest fires - ✔ Job opportunities On bad drivers: everyone is from everywhere else - There are at least six driving cultures in one city. Seattle drivers are horrible. Actual Seattlites can drive in the rain and the snow - but folks from California, . . . New York, etc think they can drive on ice in the 2nd hilliest city in the US.
