Why You Should Avoid the 2015 2021 Mercedes Benz C300
Mercedes-Benz, for many years, has been a benchmark for luxury but when it comes to having “outlaws”, they’re not left out.
The fourth generation (W205) Mercedes-Benz C300, which falls between the years 2015 & 2021 is the focus for today’s video.
Plush leather, better cabin design & build, luxurious external presence, loads of tech features, these and more did Mercedes-Benz offer on the fourth generation of the C-class.
The W204 Mercedes-Benz C300 was powered by a 3.0L naturally aspirated V6 (M274) which was a very reliable engine, however for the next generation, the W205 as seen in the video above, Mercedes-Benz in the bid to reduce carbon emission, stepped the power train down to a 2.0l twin-turbocharged in-line 4 cylinder (M274), retaining the power of a V6.
This engine, however, isn’t what consumers expected of the C300, given the impression left by the previous generation.
This engine, while fun, came with a lot of problems that were only worsened by poor octane ratings in the petrol in some countries.
The problems caused could be so dire, they could lead to a knocked engine.

To avoid early pre-ignition please use a higher octan gasoline , low octan will cause engine knocking.

I have one and it’s the best car I have ever owned I have never ran into any issues with the car and I drive that thing like a maniac. Most people who have no idea of German cars would say that the engine is knocking when they hear that sound but it’s actually just the fuel pump

@@gbma3241 car engines are designed to last at least up to 250,000 miles. If you change oil on time, and take good care of the car and follow the recommendations on the owners manual, you should have no issues with the engine. The problem is, a lot of people disregard these tips. I’ve seen people put regular gas on s550.

Mercedes are for driving fast tho it’s just u don’t wanna smash the gas pedal everyday but every once in awhile I always drive mine a lil bit faster but not all the time but the engines in a Mercedes are meant to be driven fast it just way better to drive it slower because it’s also a luxury car n replacing parts is a lot of money n if u want any car to last don’t abuse it

That’s why you use premium. If the owners manual says premium required rather than premium recommended, then you need to put premium in to avoid these kinds of issues

@@gbma3241 yes and yes, premium fuel does prevent engine knocking which ultimately prevents cracking. It also with give you slightly better gas mileage than with regular 87 octane as well as a slight power boost. Even though it’s more expensive to refuel, you’ll ultimately end up saving more on maintenance/repairs as well as gas mileage to a lesser, but still notable extent.

@@DaPopeOfDope101 how much more expensive is premium fuel to fill up? Compared to regular it should costa round $10-$14 more per tank fill up. Also if someone is buying a used car that takes premium, but the owner before him didn’t use premium, would that be a big issue? Or as long as the new owner uses premium it’s fine? Thank you

@@gbma3241 it really depends on how the previous owner treated the car and for how long. If they only owned for 20k-30k miles (which is actually quite common seeing how most people lease these cars) you’re probably fine. As for the cost it really depends upon your location. On average it’s like a dollar more per gallon and the c300 I believe has a 16 gallon tank so $15-$20 more for a full tank is roughly what you’d be paying extra compared to regular 87 octane. And if you’re in a pinch or are tight on cash, it won’t hurt to put a couple gallons of 87 every once in a blue moon, just don’t get in the habit of doing it regularly.

Had an issue with 2016 c300 piston hit the tip of spark plug , which is caused a lot of damage. Had to replace engine. This was original spark plug installed by the dealer.

She’s right about the 204 straight v6. I had that car then I got the 205. No engine problems but a load of electrical stuff that controls it. But with all those problems it runs smooth as silk.

Hi there! Thank you so much for watching. You take care of your car well. That's impressive. While I stated all you mentioned in the full review, LSPI is a common issue experienced worldwide and is mostly caused by constantly flooring the car in order to get some performance, leading to more boost than the pistons can handle and there leading to cracks in the pistons. Cars with similar powetrain should be driven easily and not spiritedly.

Just check VIN and there scroll down to where it says "Engine no.:" and you'll see 274920 E0 XXXXXX or 274920 30 XXXXXX. If the last 6 digits of your engine number are after 043259 (if 274920 E0 precedes it) or after 406602 (if 30 precedes it) then you have the updated parts. If not, you are in the range of motors that have the defective wrist pin.

You only get engine knocking when you keep pushing the engine at higher rpm’s , the car is fast and you don’t have to aggressively hit the pedals to get it going 😂, how hard is that to get

@@thedontvinesdontend2967 Its been mechanically reliable. Mine had 98k miles so its starting to get that slight rattle on some starts. When i got the car, i replaced all the injectors, spark plugs and coils and its been a champ so far. Ive had to change the Pcv valve but nothing else. Sounds a bit like a v8 under load too🔥🔥

@@flyboygang3672shit goes wrong all the over 100k miles the turbo actuator went out on mine and the catalytic converter is fried, the trans is banging because of it being beat on. if you don’t know how to do your own work don’t get one. you also want one with low miles and service the transmission right away.

She’s correct. I have a 2015 C300 and piston cracked at 59k miles. Whole engine had to be replaced. Extended warranty covered it and it cost them $21k. Worst experience ever because they denied coverage until my lawyer got involved

I have 2018 E300 same W205 Engine, Piston cracked after 23000 miles. Dealer replaced the entire engine under warranty and told me they are doing 7-10 per week. MBZ should recall all these engines or extend the original warranty. check MBworld more than 100 people with dead engine without warranty!!

I have this car I had one major issue with the ism I think it cost me about 3 grand to fix it because my mechanic couldn’t fix it so I had to get it done at the dealer. Originally it would have cost 1400 with my regular mechanic but he just couldn’t understand the codes. Either way everything has been running smooth that did hurt though.

@@dominozonda nope! Only issues I’ve had is a slightly creaky sunroof but just needs lubricant. Also some of the car in general is a bit freaky if you touch it like door handles or the air con vents etc (common issue) Other than that, it’s an amazing car.

She is right I've owned it for a year know and made 80.000km on it and trust me the most fun time of my life such a good car but the engine has a flaw. Cylinder one is most likely to Crack and go bad. If you're car is slowly burning motor oil and your exhaust tips get really dirty and hard to clean get that car sold! The first piston is then cracked and the engine will go on a safe modus to prevent itself for making it worse. Ive had this problem couldn't figure what was going on kept on driving it and my engine needed to be replaced and yes it's a fucking good car but every car has a sickness and that had the m274 in the c300 and the problem starts by too much fuel injection so get that shit fine tuned get the cat out of there and make the tuner clear that he needs to look at the fuel injections because that is where the problem begins! And they put Renault pistons in this engine while they are pushing it hard cuz it's a really small engine block. So just keep this in your mind keep notice of the sings when there is something bad going to happen and have fun driving this car!

Keep up with the maintenance schedules, pay attention to the car, use the right lubricants and the car would love you.

Regular gas is fine higher octane means you’ll get the absolute best performance out of the engine. I’ve seen some hit 220k and they only used 87.. manual says 91 honestly it depends how you drive!

I totally agreed with you. I got w205 used at 65000km when I bought it. It it totally a bomber. I drove to 75k, the water broken. At 85k roof can not be close properly , I heard wind noise from top of my head . 90k my w205 music base is not functional 😅 and arm rest silver start to peel off. Oh forgot my front driver side market light is on forever. It's lemon . Gas cap string also broken. My car only has 98k .

You should be running 91 minimum. I have a 2017 with 80k. First owner. Never had a single issue. The ping is 100% your fault as the owner. Read your owners manual.

the only problem is valve body i’ve had, and i drove ROUGH had it replaced it’s driving sweet going to do spark plugs soon on this bad boy i love this car only the front grill is ugly lol i like the star studded one

Hi there! Thank you for watching. Mercedes revised the M274 in 2017, thereby creating the M264 to correct some errors in the former. One of the changes includes a new twin-scroll turbocharger. It also still features direct injection so carbon buildup is imminent as in most direct injection engines. Misfires may also be experienced and the use of adulterated or low octane petrol may lead to engine knocking.

While not all units may have these flaws, many users have experienced them and even Mercedes-Benz created an updated version of the M274 which was then used in the 2018-22 models, the 2017-19/21 E300 & GLC300. Some women actually know lots of stuff about cars. Use yours carefully, take tips from folks in this comment section and enjoy your unit. 225,000 miles and rides like a jet and no problems at all. Just take care of your car, know what you're getting yourself into, and follow the manufacturers maintenance rules, and you will be fine.

Don't worry mercedes is a reliable car brand. I had a 2006 mercedes c230 and it's drove fine. It had over 160000 miles on it

@@TheSilverBenz hi there! Thank you for watching. The W203 was very reliable but you cannot compare the M272 V6 to the newer M274 single turbocharged in-like 4 with smaller pistons. The C230 engine was very reliable and built to live long. However, I can’t say the same for the early versions of the M274
