Avril's words from her bio on her website. “I’m in a battle,” she sighs. “One night, I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”

This song is about her struggle with Lyme Disease, the lyric "I'm too young to fall asleep", that refers to Avril ready to face death as her body was shutting completely down, luckily she survived to tell the tale, she's an amazing woman and singer.

If you don't know, Avril was fighting (and still) Lyme Disease, a very rare disease with a hard diagnostic. She said in a letter to her fans that she almost died and got through a lot of hard days back there. This is her first song in the last 5 years and she'll be releasing a new album by the end of the year (or maybe the begging of 2019). I hope people support her bc she deserves so much. ❤️

Matheus Costa Lyme Disease is actually really common in New England. After all, Lyme was first discovered in Old Lyme, CT. Unfortunately I fell victim to it. Lyme in itself is not rare, it’s the co-infections that go along with it. I ended up with babesia, and it almost killed me. I still struggle with it too this day. Connecticut is starting to have a serious issue with babesia, which is not good. The last co-infection you would want is that one. It breaks down your red blood cells and messes with your liver. Causes kidney failure and sometimes cardiac arrest. Like I said, I got lucky but not everyone does. I always push to educate because doctors and regular people alike have no clue about how serious tick illness is. It is still to this day poorly understood and the testing is shit.

I was just about to comment what you said so well: Lyme isn't rare, which makes the lack of treatment and diagnosis so ridiculous. My mother has never been officially diagnosed with Lyme and has had to rely on things besides Western medicine. Thank you for taking the time to educate others 😊

Carolyn Kerns Honey if she hasn’t been diagnosed with Lyme yet and she’s feeling that way she really should get another opinion. I don’t know what your budget is like but there’s a process called the Lyme Antigen Test. It’s around $400 and obviously needs to be signed off on by a doctor but it’s so worth it. Demand it to be done.

@@Histen in certain circles she is loved very much, i for one not only am a huge fan but hero worship her, she is my idol, whenever i struggle with my own ambitions i ask what would avril do. that may sound a bit strong i know but if you've had my life you'd understand. but it isn't like she is the only thing i listen to...i listen to an immense variety of music (which is why i can appreciate avril when she diversifies her styles, unlike some fans i might add who just want her to stay the same forever). as for the people don't like her...i shrug and ignore them.

I’m a fan of Avril’s since the beginning. It’s not fair that most people know Avril as the girlfriend/What the hell singer! Please react to her first two albums (let go/under my skin). She’s the most underrated singer :/ And when it comes to Rock there’s no one compared to her. No disrespect but a lot of these days artists are inspired by her music and her unfiltered unapologetic persona. And yeah The Grammys vetoed her because she said they’re bullshit. avril has tendency to vary her music a LOT more than some artists...so you can find a vast variety of styles throughout her 5 albums and b-side tracks. personally i love that about her but there are some fans that wish she would stick to her classic style or one style...but they need to just accept that Avril will do whatever she feels like doing. it's true she can do some great upbeat tracks or rapp it out or be rock/ punk/ pop if the wants to. but the actual beauty of her voice is something you only hear in her slower songs...i remember this story about this man (can't remember who sorry) who heard her singing in a studio one time and he was someone who had worked with music and singers and bands for years...Avril was fairly new to music at the time and he was entranced by her voice. he said "that girl has a gift...the way she can make certain words so important with the tones of her voice...and i hope she realises just how rare that is."

she has 65 songs (if you count Head Above Water) and that isn't even counting the B-Sides of which she has 32 (only 2 of which she didn't write herself). not to mention the whole playing multiple instruments as well as singing. avril may have started as just a singer/ songwriter...but she is far more than that now...she is an artist...an entrepreneur...an entertainer.

Her life changed so much when coming close to death while battling Lyme disease and she wrote this song as well as others to express what she was going through. I think what makes this song so beautiful is so many of us have been through chronic pain and didn’t know if we’d survive. Or even struggles with our own mental health issues including self loathing or self hatred and fear and anger. Music simplified and is what a lot of us are thinking about. It transcends age, race, location, socio economic background. We feel you Avril. Thanks for your reaction. How could you not think that this song is beautiful? I’m glad Avril likes it your video.

I grew up on Avril and I still cry when I listen to Nobody's Home as it reminds me of my Dead Girlfriend who was bullied to Suicide I couldn't listen to it for a long time. Avril is true talent! I'm With You Smile When You're Gone Let Me Go Are other songs

Been a fan of this girl for literally over half of my life. I’m not a religious person at this point in my life but I definitely appreciate this song. I’ve always been a bigger fan of her ballads than the more uptempo stuff. Love this song.

As an Avril Lavigne Fan for years ( she basically was my first Chart musician to follow on Radio , CD and Internet later ) I was tottally aware that she has a voice and especially her latest Tour before she got sick it was with Let Me Go and some other Songs always clear she has THAT voice but I also hoped and still hope that this is not the only Song actually showing THAT off on the upcoming Album.

I totally suggest you her albums, you can start with her first one, that is considered one of the best debut albums in the 2000's by a girl, Let Go! It's really good, I swear you'll like it! Or you can try listening to her last album named Avril Lavigne from 2013, it's really underrated, yet great!

The first time I heared it, i fell in love with it, not just because I'm her fun, but this song really touched my heart,she really sings her heart out ,you can feel how desperate she is to fight that disease, that line "I'm too young to fall asleep " makes me cry. Love this song sooooo much !
