I'm glad you mentioned that music (and certain voices) HEAL you. I've thought that way for quite some time. Music, in general, seems to have the ability (like a universal language) to touch our souls. Karen Carpenter happens to be my favorite, but I love LOTS of others as well. Karen's tone, clarity and enunciation soothes in such a special way, like she's stepping off a star. If you haven't already, check out her medley with Ella Fitzgerald. The two of them are sensational. Karen's version of "My Funny Valentine" gives me the chills. Also, Ella's duet with Frank Sinatra, "The Lady is a Tramp" is uncommonly good.

This song gets me thinking of a real love story, from late in Steve’s life. While he was still very far away from the music world, he had an exchange with a friend who was working with terminal cancer patients. Steve looked through a portfolio of their photos, and saw a woman who basically stole his heart. They went on to have a relationship, even though her prognosis was that she would not recover. But before she passed away, she made him promise her something: that he wouldn’t return to that isolation before he met her, and would get back to music. And he has kept his promise to her.

I played this song 3 times in a row with headphones on and belting it out into the microphone. Combined with the big old drink I had while doing cleanup it was a very dreamy immersive experience. He was so completely in control. Never had to wonder if he's make a high note...you just sat back and enjoyed the ride, knowing he'd never let you down. Amazing voice.

When you talk about greatest voices of all time…there’s some big hitters. Freddie Mercury, Sam Cooke, Whitney Houston, Righteous Brothers, Michael McDonald….Steve Perry is right there in the discussion. Once in a generation talent.

This song brings out so many different emotions for me, and I play it often. My mom also loved it, so there are times when I miss her so much and miss singing it with her. 😢 I think it's an absolutely beautiful song. I miss you, mama. ❤

Excellent! My mom and I would sing Neil Diamond or John Denver. The 1 'modern song' she'd sing was, Come on Eileen.

@@jeanstrickland2445 excellent analogy! We hold precious, our momma memories. I have her hand crochet afghan in a plastic tote. Every once in a while... I'll open it and smell...her. My son asked to do it. Certain foods too...combine all 3...?

@@jeanstrickland2445 Thank you, and I agree. I'm the same way about our favorite movies or TV shows. My brother and his wife have a nine year old daughter, and since she was a baby, she's been listening to the same great music that we were raised on. 🙂

Steve Perry's voice is incomparable. This song is wonderful. If you want to hear something special, one of his songs from the 90s is my favorite song of his: MISSING YOU. Basically it's his voice, piano, violins... what else to ask for.

I know I have said this before but listen to Journey live from Houston 1981. The song Mother Father (of the chart vocals) and of course Don't Stop Believing. What he could do live in his prime was unreal.
