I’m so glad you do put the names. I’m in NZ and U.S. you tubers use common names all the time and even with good plant knowledge I’ve got no idea of what the plant is

Jim I hope you keep these up. I wish all garden you tubers did this. Seeing other gardens is such an inspiration of what you can do in your home. Seeing 1 garden is great but getting tours of many are even better and led by somebody as knowledgeable as you takes it to another level

I am always amazed at people's ability to properly maintain their plants. Trimming them and pest proofing and care...I need to do more of this. I admit my strategy is often to toss it out there in the proper spot and pray for the best lol

I like the variety of your videos. I always learn something and sometimes take screenshots of the plants that I would like to have. Love the fact that you put the growing zones of the plants. I live in a 9b zone so it's easier to see what I can grow here.

Really enjoyed this video. You perfectly edited it. Liked that you got the full habit of most of the plants as well as a close up on the leaves and/or blooms while plant name is on the screen. I'm one of those screen print viewers. Lol. Watched all the ads in full, earned a thumbs up, and this comment. Cant wait for the backyard too! And love how the different hardscape material intersect without looking busy. Your "wordiness" (27:03) is a delight, when it's coming from an expert and plant lover! It's where we amateurs learn! --if the homeowner is resding this: thank you for allowing this tour. Your landscape is AMAZING and I love all of these mature plantings! 🤗🤗🤗 that flame thrower 🤤🤤🤤 just spectacular oasis!

Wow! You're a walking encyclopedia! I aspire to know a fraction of your gardening ability and knowledge. Thank you so much for the descriptions. It helps me understand my own plants better. Actually, it’s precisely your commentary which is of the greatest interest as it helps us in deciding the location, the height and the kind of conditions it is placed in and …ahem… the ideal conditions it needs! It is really helpful to have your comments on these plants and all the others including the small ones . It is definitely not too wordy . Thank you for the names of all the plants. Thank you for sharing your knowledge so generously.

Always enjoy garden tours. Living in the PNW, it is interesting to see the same plants we grow but also the ones not hardy here. Love all the hardscaping.

Yay, I really enjoy these tours. I love the way they have blended formality with a more relaxed feeling. And I'm super impressed that the pokeberry has been cultivated into a specimen piece! I do love how they get bright pink stems, but I'd never thought to take this plant from the farm into the suburbs - really creative on their part. Great video - looking forward to the subsequent video!

The highlight of the tour IMO was the giant poke weed. I never in my life saw one that big or realized it really is an attractive plant. Kudos to the homeowner, He/she should be our native plant ambassador.

My favorite part is "lemongrass people say it keeps the mosquitos away. I doubt it does any of those things. It is just a beautiful grass" lol

I have a Clearidendron t. (Peanutbutter tree, leaf smells like peanutbutter) after fowering it has turquoise berries with dark pink caylex. So beautiful and different. Great in a bouquet with Japanese Anemone. I have had it for about 15 to 20 years, and now is sprouting new plants of the root. I propagate plants so I dig them up and sell them.

HOAs fall into the Globilists agenda. I purposely avoided them whenever I moved. I grow vegetables and herbs in my front yard mixed in with my landscape. People love my landscape. And if they dont too bad. I applaude people getting out and working in their yards. Even new gardeners starting out. They learn year to year and do better every year. Even those with limited resources start and are able to add on each year. Great bonding time with family and friends, great exercise. Brings individual pride that's so needed now when we cant get that in our jobs or country much anymore.

I am getting a flame thrower redbud today! I just realized that the end leaves are close enough to a fiery purple that they will absolutely blend with my purple centric front garden! Super exited as I have had great luck with my Rising Sun Redbud!

Thank you for the tour! I do not think you are too wordy. I am fascinated by your knowledge! I am in Zone 8 inSouth Eastern Coastal Virginia so we have many of the same plants. My Jane Magnolia has a bright pink bloom on it. It blooms lavender in the spring. It’s been planted for 3 years and this is the first time it has bloomed in the summer.

I really enjoy touring your neighbors’ gardens. I enjoy seeing how other folks orchestrate their landscape. Like you, I collect plants. If a plant has pretty flowers, interesting foliage I want it to live at my house, providing it will thrive in my zone 8a southeastern NC coastal conditions. Will that flamethrower redbud be available for purchase anytime soon? That plant is gorgeous!

I love the use of a poke weed for an ornamental. I wish my mother was still alive to hear that. We used to have a clothesline and the poke weed would come up around one of the poles. I thought they were great for hiding the ugliness of the pole, I always thought those purple berries were pretty, I can also remember intentionally staining some of "woods clothes" with those berries. (Those clothes were meant to get dirty anyway. We did not have much money and I knew better than to stain school clothes or heaven forbid, church clothes). I am older and more boring now, but I do love lemon grass as an ornamental. They get really tall and vigorous if you leave them alone. I even think they are pretty when they die after the frost as long as the hold their shape.

Really enjoy the garden tours. I enjoy watching these during my lunchtime. Brings some relaxation to my work day. However, it's hard to concentrate afterward. Makes me want to be working in my yard. :)

Hey Jim I got a flamethrower redbud barefoot back in March as a birthday present for myself of course lol! I wasn’t sure where I wanted to put it so I placed it in a large grow pot and was hoping it would put leaves on but it hasn’t! I paid a good bit really for it! I took it out of the pot and it hasn’t grown any new roots yet so I planted it in my yard here in Alabama! I am hoping it still has a chance! I made sure the grafted area was above soil line! It doesn’t seem dead. The branch and bare root seems strong still and not rotted. All that to ask, any tips on barefoot trees? I have do not have experience with them.

12:41 it looks a lot like my Cercis 'Eternal Flame'Judas Tree. It's slightly struggling in my alkaline soil, but overall is a magnificent showstopper.

You mentioning wisteria got me thinking that maybe you can do a video on that? I've been having this running argument with other gardeners saying the only good wisteria is a dead one, while they think there's manageable types. That has not been my experience. So called non-invasive types have crazy crazy roots, like nothing I've ever seen. I would love your opinion and maybe you can show some examples of it? One of the videos I watch here is "Watch yer step" the sidestep adventures vlog. He has the most horrific wisteria problem I've ever seen and I'm sure someone once planted that.

What a beautiful garden. I just love the low stone walls. I’m always drawn to them. I just had to clean up may lambs ears. They do so great but right around now the lower leaves die off, it really doesn’t get excess moisture so I’m not sure if that’s normal or not or what causes it. Any idea?

Great tour! But I do think that every part of a Pokeweed (as we call it in PA) is extremely poisonous to mammals (birds love them). I’ve read you can boil the young leaves for “poke salad” but I wouldn’t risk it…

Loved this tour! The yucca that was shown was lovely however I have the ugliest plain yucca growing my beds, Zone 6a in Ohio. We can't seem to get rid of them. Do you have suggestions? Help please.

I purchased a Blue Atlas Cedar and have clay in Georgia with high rainfall at times . I read about expanded slate for drainage but cannot find it in my area . Would volcanic rock be a good substitute? It is available in my area .

Enjoy your videos. Now I know what I have in my yard: POKE WEED! ACK! I cut a huge one down this year whose trunk was the size of a small tree. What is the best way to rid your yard of these weeds? I don’t want to spray them with weed killer that can effect other plants in the area though am testing my temptation to do it.

I'm trying 2 Russian varieties of pomegranate after hearing they will do better in our 7b zone in GA...we'll see???

Pokeweed is a perennial?!?!🤦🏾♀️ Time to cut mine down. Now I know why it keeps coming up. I thought birds kept pooping the seeds in the same spot each year. Yes a prolific seeder!!!😡🥴

Did have one question, Jim, why no love for fruit trees 😂? You don’t do apple trees and other fruit trees that work in your zone, don’t know if a past Q and A bad answer to this :)

I just planted some monkey grass (Liriope). You have to cut it back in the winter?

Yes so it looks fresh in spring. You can cut it in the beginning of spring as well. That is my preference.

@@cgwalley All the green blades will turn grey , flop and look ugly over the winter. In late winter/early spring you can cut it down and it will start growing new shoots and look nicer alot faster. I know some people in my area will never cut it back and willl look ugly all the way to may then arouund that time you wont even notice the grey anymore. So you can go without cutting it back.

@@cgwalley you can't kill loripe, or at least I can't figure it out. The thing I hate about the solid green lirope is they will put runners under the ground and those runners are deep, so they don't stay in their Lane ha. However what I'm learning about the variegated one is not as aggressive, the bulb will get big over time but it doesn't shoot out runners . That reminds me the dark green will also seed like crazy in places you don't want it. So if it was me I would try to stay with the variegated, you won't regret it as much LOL

Obsession I can pick out from anywhere. It is redder and more upright. Harbor dwarf and harbor belle I grew for many years. Of the new varieties, flirt is most similar.

Why not so their landscape when it's looking good? It is a good example of what not to plant in certain areas as you have pointed out. I've learned some important donts and a few dos
