Thanks Darren, yeah the land base fish are really special. So relatable to all anglers, and land based sometime requires big hours, its very rewarding catching a few land based with plastics. One of my fav forms of fishing 100%

First of all Alan, Happy New Year, hopefully a much less stressful year and more time on the water. That was different to your normal session, i haven't fished of a Jetty or similar since i was a kid catching gar and butter bream, Brings back memories. I remember loosing a lot of fish trying to bring them up, always a challenge with light gear. You had fun with some nice catchers. Enjoyed it mate.

Yeah really trying to continually mix up the content on the channel especially now with FishingMad being aired on TV its great to show stuff like this which really is relatable for so many people and does bring back memories for so many. Fishing on your local jetty or pier targeting bread and butter species. Im really glad that you enjoyed it.

Usually St Kilda Pier, but tomorrow I’m going to that spot you fished at in Lorimer St. It doesn’t worry me that much, but catching a fish now and the would be nice… I always use 1/8 jighead with a Zman Motor Oil 21/2 inch grub. That worm you used at Queenscliff looks interesting. Anyway, thanks for your interest.

Good luck Eddie i hope you get a few. Just a quick tip ive always done better with bait at Lorimar street so might be worth taking an additional rod, as its quite snaggy with the soft plastics. When the pinkies are on there it can go crazy, espcially with baits like raw chicken. Cheers

Alan, So I went to Lorimer St, did what you suggested and caught a nice pinkie and bream. Thanks. Happiness. I noticed some other blokes casting into the channel. Being newly inspired, I wonder whether you have any views on what rod, reel and line one should get to cast those bigger distances? I don’t mind buying quality equipment…

Thanks David, thats greatly appreciated. The plastics used in this vid come pre scented so nothing used, however I generally use S-Factor as my go to scent,

The way the tide rips through there is nuts, I've driven out through there in the boat mid tide and the first time I went I was shocked how hard it rips through there. Had some revs on the motor to just get moving

Yeah its crazy strong, imagine if the motor cut out. I did that a few weeks ago at West Hastings channel as the tide was racing and panicked a tad.

@@fishingmad mate when that happens the first thing you do is throw the anchor, don't even bother trying to get it going again. Especially if in close to hazards like rocks etc. We used to troll the headlands around Sydney and that was #1 rule in those scenarios, we never had to do it thankfully but a mate of ours on another boat did. Saved the boat and they were 20 metres from the rocks.

Hey Allan do you generally use the light or heavy gauge hooks with the TT jig heads?

Generally Heavy. I've bent a few light gauge hooks over the years and don't think I've lost to many fish by using heavier gauge. If I'm doing light or estuary fishing than i drop it way to small, thin and light jig heads

1000% I often go through a few packs when I'm out on the boat however the seem to outfish so many other plastics.

I was onto a patch of 45-49cm pinkies off Werribee and run out of then the other day, I put my munroes Curtail worms in the pack with the leftover scent in there, cleaned up.

Always keep an eye on the tides and fish an hour or so on each side of the tide change, also first and last 2 hours of daylight are usually good. Sometime best just to get out there regardless of the time and tides and give it a crack. Cheers

Nice video Alan, I’m just wondering last time I caught a trevely and it has a white bug inside the fishs mouth, is that normal?

Yes 100% normal, unfortunately the vast majority of trevally have a parasite that lives in their mouth and takes over their tounge, lives there and feeds on what they eat. Its very common. Still freaks me out a tad.

100% Isaac, its a very effective way of fishing. Use the same gear, plastics and technique and you'll catch a few good ones I'm sure of it.

What tide is best for fishing at queensclif?

I just turned up without worrying about the tides that day. With fishing usually dawn, dusk and and hour or so each side of tide change can be most productive, its quite shallow there so high tide might be favourable

Ok, maybe you can answer a question that has been puzzling me since starting fishing again a few months ago. Why do I see so many fisherman pulling in fish and then just letting them suffocate slowly on the bank or pier? I have no issues with catching to keep, but not to cause so much suffering when a quick knock on the head would despatch them quickly and more ethically. Please explain?

My only issue with those Turtleback worms is you can go through packets of them so easily and it gets expensive, which is why I stopped using them.

Yeah 100% agreed the plastics don't last long at all. A bite or a nibble and you need to replace. I also use the Zman 3 inch minnows a lot and usually one lasts you a whole session

That area is full of puffer fish who love the turtle back. I use the Zman Grubs in motor oil colour there and bounce it off the bottom.

Yeah I dont know why they have closed much of the access of. They could easily open those gates which would allow another 10 people to fish that spot. Really missed oppertunity for the area.

Think of the volume of people that would use that space, thousands of people visit that spot every month just because of the beaches and fishing.
