@@Gatorade69 Yeah, at least several reviews hated on Symphony for being 2D. And there's a rather infamously "didn't age well" snippet from Nintendo Power that states: "If you ever needed proof that the N64's miles ahead of the 32-bit competitor, just compare these shots to the new PlayStation version of Castlevania. Whereas the N64 version features fully 3D characters and backgrounds, along with dazzling lighting effects, the PlayStation title is a flat, 2D platform game where the tiny hero has to fight big, cheesy monsters. No comparison really..." and under a screenshot of Symphony: "Urgh! It's another crap PlayStation shot! Rubbish..."

I was ridiculed mercilessly from my “friends” for liking Symphony of the night. “It looks like Super Nintendo, what a baby game! We’re playing REAL games that are 3D, because 3D is ALWAYS better than 2D!” No one had Symphony except me. Who’s laughing now. My EU copy of symphony is valuable, while they can get a dollar for their Shadow Man or whatever.

@@Gatorade69 yeah, Shadow Man is not the best example here, but you know what I mean. Funny enough I have Shadow Man and enjoyed it the one time I placed it a couple years back. Tomba is Great, same with Skullmonkeys. 2D got a lot of hate but aged much better than early 3D.

@@Gatorade69 Tomb Raider on 32-bits was clunky as heck. They gave her tank controls and was sluggish. Soul Reaver was a similar sort of game by same company yet had far better controls. It was released after the Dual Analog/Shock controller so has proper nice 3D controls.

Mad Stalker rules. It was originally an X68000 game, and a Mega Drive port was in development and announced in Beep! Mega Drive magazine in Japan back in late 1993, but was quietly cancelled. But it was apparently finished, and that port ended up being actually released a few years ago by Columbus Circle in Japan, then later worldwide by Strictly Limited Games. I bought a copy a while ago (SLG still had a bunch of copies leftover last I checked), and it's a pretty good port.

Mad Stalker, released first on X86000, was produced by Ukyo Masaki and Imaizumi Masatoshi. And each name have its own an amazing story. Ukyo leave Fill in Café (the studio who created Mad Stalker) to work with Treasure, there created games like Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyou Touitsusen, Guardian Heroes, Silhouette Mirage, the second Sin and Punishiment, and other games for other studios, like the second Code of Princess and Rakugaki Showtine. Imaizumi stayed at Fill in Café and, using the same Mad Stalker engine, created a fighting game called Asuka 120%. Imaizume also worked over the PS1 port of Makeruna! Makendo 2 (a.k.a. Kendo Rage 2), and also created Panzer Bandit. Playing Mad Stalker, Guardian Heroes and Pazer Bandit, you will feel they have the same "soul", and the same can be told to Asuka 120%. After some time, Ukyo and Imaizumi worked together again to create the Phantom Breaker series, and Imaizumi also worked on Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, who also plays like Guardian Heroes and Mad Stalker. The main star here is Asuka 120%, who is considered the mother of all anime fighters, inspiring many games, mainly doujin games. Games like the first Guilty Gear, and doujin games like the Queen of Heart series (who uses the same mechanics) and Eternal Fighrer ZERO. The studio who created Queen of Heart also created Melty Blood, renaming the studo to French Bread, and also creating the Under Night In-Birth series, and producing Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax. Imaizumi and Ukyo are true unsoung heroes in the gaming industry, creating two games important games, Mad Stalker and Asuka 120%, who moved the hearts of many people in other small studios to create amazing beat'em up games, and defining a whole sub-genre in the fighting game industry.

Japanese-only dialogue anyway, so who cares? The fighting action is what you come for.
