Researching possible places in Baja to move to from San Diego, would like to connect with expats living in Ensenada, Rosarito, and Playas de TJ. Thanks

Hi, Check out groups on Facebooks. Expats Ensenada. They are very helpful and provide lots of information. There is one I really like, I think it is called Ensenada Amigos. Good Luck!!

There are many great choices where to live in Mexico. My own opinion is that if you go to live in Mexico as a temporary resident/permanent, you should: a) learn Spanish as best you can b) live among and socialize with the Mexican people. I was blessed to have lived in Mexico as a boy and into my teenage years. The Mexican people are wonderful and will receive you with open arms. Just leave your superior attitude at the border and don't compare how things are done in Mexico vs your country of origin. I am 70 now, and I cannot wait to move to Mexico for the final years of my life.

I couldn't agree more, Leland. Well said! I am raising my 16-year-old twins who were 8 when we immigrated to mainland Mexico from Southern California. Mexico is their/our home and in our hearts forever. We are blessed to live in such a beautiful country and amongst such soulful, family-oriented people. Saludos.

What's your definition of the two?
@mineralt
@mineralt 4 жыл бұрын
They have different definitions. By definition, immigrants intend to stay in their new country indefinitely. Whether expats do or do not is unclear. Is that the sole difference between an expat and an immigrant then? That the immigrant comes to stay, while the expat might take off again in a few years? I’d be inclined to agree… if that’s how the term was actually used in practice. It has nothing to do with legality.

What's not to like about Puerto Vallarta? Too many mosquitoes in the summertime, for one thing. And another is that all the locals speak to me in English, even when I speak to them in Spanish - that totally infuriates me! When I visited Puerto Vallarta, I enlisted the help of a local music store to find the Mexican flutist I played with when I played my Pan Flute professionally with an Andean band in the SF Bay area - and they were able to locate him for me. Had a great reunion with him.

It’s important that these folks see them selves as immigrants migrating to a new country. Americans don’t like to see themselves as “immigrants” but these folks are. Expats are people who are usually on temporary assignment in another country or living in another country temporarily, but will eventually return to their home country-as I was when I lived in London for work, I’m American. Language used is important so Americans go to Mexico with some sense of “humility” especially in these times with so much racist strife in the US, including against Mexicans!

Interesting how the term "legal ALIENS" or "illegal ALIENS" is not used. Expats is a misnomer.

Have you seen the film buster. It's about some criminals that rob a train and messed with the English police and do a runner to Acapulco. The main actor is Phil Collins and he wrote a song (going local down in Acapulco ?? ) worth watching the film and the sound track is great. I'm heading to mexico going to try playa del carmen but proberly thinking Puerto Vallarta area. ASAP

For expats moving to and living in Mexico, I recommend taking the time to learn about the local culture and customs, including the language, as this will greatly enhance your overall experience and help you integrate into your new community. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the legal requirements for residency and any necessary visas. Mexico offers a diverse range of regions and cities to choose from, each with its own unique character, so research and choose a location that aligns with your lifestyle and preferences. Embrace the rich culinary scene, explore the country's natural beauty, and engage with the welcoming locals to make the most of your expat journey in Mexico. Finally, prioritize safety and stay informed about local safety guidelines and precautions, as well as healthcare options, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay. Thanks, Expats Everywhere!

We are thinking about Puebla, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, or Queretero. Cool weather is very important to us. We both speak Spanish and have lived abroad before. Being around other expats is not important to us. We look for cool weather, safety, good hospitals, plenty to do, friendly people. We may live in all of them for a while but my guess is that we end up in Puebla. We’ll see...!

Can someone assist? If you don't have a family member or good friend to utilize their address in the US , how can I open a US bank account ? Under the Patriot Act , you must have a physical address in the States. What are my options in order to gain access to my retirement income such as social security and pension or 401k abroad ? This seems like a huge hurdle in even begining and sustaining an expat life ? Thanks
@ExpatsEverywhere

We're exploring this as well. We have various physical addresses we can use due to our property ownership in the US and family that's still there. Do you happen to have family that you can have "mail" sent to?

The vices of my daughter's husband are the virtues of my son"...right? EXPATS you mean....like Mexican expats, like Guatemalan expats, like Honuduran expats, like the El Salvador expats?...Don't you call people from other country moving to The states ALIENS? and then there's the whole issue...if they are either legal or illegal. It's sort of hypocritical how people from USA names things according to whatever is more convenient or them....when they call themselves EX -PATS...even sounds...PATRIOTIC..!!! ahahahhah...funny right?
