Awesome MTB I would do alloy, because it is probably more of a tank and more durable! I love that bike shop, definitely visit them when we come up to Cali and do our u.s road trip.

Great in depth review! Not in the market...happy with my V1, but given the option, I would get carbon over the AF. But I'm 51, and I don't have time to ride anything but nice bikes at this point! :-) That being said, the AF's don't say in our local shop in Bentonville (Mojo Cycling) for more than 3-4 days when they are lucky enough to get them for the floor!). I put the 1* Works Components Angleset in my V1 Carbon Ripmo. That helps a lot with the high speed stability....more than I expected it would in fact. I put the biggest volume reducer available for the DPX2, and I don't have the bottom out issues some have reported. It stays high in the travel, which is what I like. I would not say it's the most "ground hugging" bike I've ridden, but I wasn't expecting that with the DW Link. You didn't touch on it, but the bottom bracket is significantly lower on the AF than the V1 Ripmo. I don't care what the spec sheets say, we measured them side by side in the shop with the exact same tires. It may be something to do with the axle to crown of the DVO Fork versus the Fox Performance, or the change in the rear triangle with the linkage change, but it's significantly lower....3/4". I'm perfectly pleased with how my bike pedals climbing when seated or standing, so no complaints there either. I put DIRT components Rough country carbon hoops with 1/1 I-9 Hubs, and love that upgrade, as well as moving carbon cranks over from a previous bike. So....it's light, POPPY, and FUN AS HELL to ride!! I think it's safe to say that for some riders, the V1 is still a very desirable bike. I love to ride rock tech, so the higher BB works well. With the angleset in it, I don't see a need to upgrade to the V2 carbon frame. Granted, I have not ridden it yet and that may change my mind, but for how I like to ride...it's hard to imagine a bike any better for me than the V1 Ripmo.

Bought one of these after your first video about the bike last year. Super happy with the bike. I use it in the US when I’m here and my son uses it the rest of the year, I ride a Santa Cruz Hightower (C/GX build) back home and while there are differences, I have just as much fun on the Ripmo AF. Good recommendation.

I've been planning on getting one of these for the past few months but obvious situation has stopped that. I already use DVO forks and love them, shouldn't be overlooked by the RS/Fox crowd. Additionally I can highly recommend the PNW loam lever, if you think a dropper lever can't make a difference well think again, over a stock OEM one they're lovely to use. 👌🏻 I already have Hope brakes to sling on it and a Fabric saddle. I'll change the wheels in time, got some Hope hubs to throw on.

I just got a V1 Ripmo NX as you know and each time I ride it, I love it even more! One thing that boggles the F out of my mind is that my V1 Ripley weighs about 7Lbs less, however I don't feel the added weight at all! And it reminds me of my V1 Ripley just Stiffer and more stable - just as nimble. WTF?!?!...LOL. I believe it has to do with the Geo mainly and of course the Suspension. I'm blown away by how it rides - overjoyed!! I agree with the brakes upgrade. I have the Level Ts and they don't have the stopping power of not even the XT 2 piston. I'm contemplating the SLX 4 piston. I just ordered the PNW Loam Grips in Black. I also already upgraded to the KS South Paw lever. I plan to get a new saddle - either a Selle Italia or WTB Volt. I want to stay on a certain budget. WIll upgrade the 938s and the drivetrain when necessary.

I just got one a couple months ago. Spring just got here and trails are just opening up. So I have only had one dirt ride on it so far and it felt excellent. I agree about the climbing, it is possibly the easiest climbing bike I have ridden which I didn't expect for a bike that weighs as much as thing one does, I think 32 - 33 pounds as I have it today. I have done quite a bit of urban riding and even hit the skatepark with it. It is a bike I feel I can trust doing stair drops and other bigger street moves. The video on the Ripmo AF page on the Ibis website certainly sold me on the bike. I didn't expect it to be as awesome on the trails as it was. Anyone who likes to shred on their mountain bike should absolutely consider the AF. It is a bike that if you bail on it you don't have to worry about the frame hitting something and cracking. Maybe a little dent or two, but a dent in aluminum is far from a damaged frame, it's just adding character. A dent or crack in carbon.....DO NOT RIDE IT!

mattybfat get your butt on this bike!!! My son races enduros and does a lot of trail riding here in WV. The trails we ride most are steep, chunky, & rowdy. We got the suspension setup which was the easiest we've ever had and he absolutely loves this bike!!! We went with the coil Jade X shock and he said this gnarly downhill he rode this past sunday he had to slow down so he didn't run over the other rider he was with because it just killed that stuff. Those other riders aren't novice or slow either. I'm on a tight budget as well and this was the one bike that offered the most bang for the buck. We was going to get the NX build but upgraded to the SLX thanks to Ibis and our LBS giving us discounts. I'm glad we did because right now the only thing we are looking to change is the rear tire for less rolling resistance.

My stumpy and levo both came with Guide brakes and while they seem to be decent stopped power I really don't like the lever feel. I love the lever design of the XT brakes it just fits my hand so much better and the bit point feels more powerful, which some people like and some don't I've got maybe 6 rides on the Guide brakes now and I've gotten pretty used to them but I really miss my XT brakes. I had to send my bike in for warranty for frame crack and the shop made me send it in with the XT brakes I put on it myself because I didn't have the stock ones to put on. Really ticks me off so Now I have to go out and buy some XT brakes yet again.

I’m riding the 2020 Ibis Ripmo AF and I absolutely love it! Much much better than my last bike (the commencal meta am) which was a terrible climber but an awesome bike to descent on. The ripmo af does great both uphill and downhill and couldn’t be more happy with it I absolutely love it! I did switch out the dropper post to a OneUp 150 mm dropper with a Chromag Trailmaster saddle, as well as some Ergon grips. And I recently upgraded my front suspension to a Fox 36 Kashima coated fork. Main reason for the upgrade is mostly for the bling and plus it was an amazing offer I couldn’t pass up and that I could sell my DVO D1 Diamond for a good amount and make a good profit out of it. When I bought my ripmo af, I did upgrade my rear suspension to the DVO Jade X Coil and I’m glad I did, it’s my first bike riding with a coil and I’m having a blast with the coil set up. I hope this helps anyone who is looking into getting the ripmo af. I can happily say that I strongly recommend it!

Anthony Gonzalez so would u recommend the ibis over the Commencal? I am stuck up between Commencal clash or a meta am 29 and the ripmo af. Was the difference in uphill that noticeable or do u think it is bearable? Other than the uphills, which one is the most playful/most fun in the downhills?
@Table_Topper_Tony
@Table_Topper_Tony 4 жыл бұрын
@@domnindebretagne3244 100% recommend the Ibis Ripmo AF! The Commencal Clash and AM are long travel bikes that I would only get if I do mostly park riding. To be completely honest I was between the Ripmo AF and the Commencal TR 29er. I know for a fact that I wanted aluminum no matter what, as well as not too much travel, a 29er bike, and a rig that is mostly meant for the trails and occasional does well at the bike park. And yes, a big noticeable difference in my own experience that the ripmo af did far way better on the climbs compared to the commencal AM, but the commencal AM was sooooo much fun at the downhills and the park riding parts. It's honestly based on your riding style and what you would be using the bike mostly for. What ever you get, you can't go wrong with either of them, they're all great bikes! I think if I were to get a second bike, it'd be the Commencal TR 29. Hope this helps!

I would go for the Ripmo AF, we are 4 persons in the family who all likes to ride mtb's så the price would deffently be a deal breaker.

Hey Mo n Hannah! I see you guys have spent some time in Las Vegas lately. Being a local here, I was wondering which Ibis bike you'd prefer out here, Ripley or Ripmo AF/Ripmo V2? Lots of climbs and pretty gnarly as you know. Any info would be appreciated. Thank guys
@moandhannahtravel

Depends on if you want to hit bootleg or not!! Probably the RipMo AF if you do, the more affordable frame is nice piece of mind especially when that place seems to chew bicycles for breakfast! 😂 but hit up Irvin cycles! They are an ibis dealer in Las Vegas and know what to get you on! We love the ripley for Las Vegas xc riding!! Super fun bike!!!

The thing I dont understand with bikes meant for going downhill, ie not pedalling is why even get a bicycle in that case when you get the same feeling on a motorcycle. Ie going forward without putting any effort into it(leg wise).

If you go with the AF, SLX build - Ibis site shows the same wheels for SLX build as the NX build. However, the SLX build uses a Micro Spline cassette. Does Ibis have an adapter for their Ibis labeled hub to fit Micro Spline? I'm curious, because I'm thinking of buying the NX build, which does not come with a Micro Spline compatible wheel set?, and swapping out the entire drive train to SLX.
@dansburns

Yes. They now sell a micro spline one along with HG and XD. I did this last month and it is dead simple.

My NX is on order with a Jade X! Won't arrive at my LBS until mid may though. :( Is the fork color an option? The majority I've seen are all black, but a few have been popping up with green. My guy at the LBS didn't ask about the option when I was talking to him on the phone, and I didn't think to ask...
@moandhannahtravel

It’s not an option but you might be able to call DVO and see how much new lowers would cost and swap them if your really keen on it!! Black looks rad too though!!!!

@@moandhannahtravel I do like the subdued color pattern actually with the black, and subtle green highlights. I could get an orange frame next week, but I'm choosing to wait till mid May for the grey... Green is my favorite color, but my skill set doesn't yet scream "Hey, watch this!" Haha

I’m still on the fence between something like a ripmo af and an optic or tall boy. Threw a leg over at a dealer and the ripmo af felt like a monster truck. Not a good test in any way but testing options are really limited given the situation. Feeling like I need to order one to get it by summer but nervous to pull the trigger on what for me is a big purchase. I ride stuff a long time (current bike 2010 Santa Cruz blur lt... yikes), and if I go for it not sure what size. I’m 6 feet tall and an XL felt ok, but have heard I should go with the smaller size with new geo. Curious to hear what other 6’ tall guys/gals are riding. My dealer hasn’t had a large in yet, so I can’t test.

So regardless what you end up on, I will say this, you are going to be stoked on a modern day MTB especially if your bike is 10 years old. They’ve come along ways!!! With that being said bused towards 29 for sure but Hannah like little wheels!! -Mo

I would go Large if you have average proportions. I'm 6-1 and REALLY in between sizes. If I buy the AF I'll prob go XL, 35mm stem...or check out YT because their XL is dialed for our height.

Thanks guys. I changed my order to a large. The more I’ve read, it sounds like if you want to go fast, straight and plow go for the XL, large will be a little more playful so I’ll see how it goes. Now the wait for it to arrive....
