Can’t say for certain what’s being done here but if you’re on a “Zoom Lens” like an 18-85 for example changing the lens from tight to wide can achieve the shift in perspective size of subjects from the center of the frame and towards the edge of frame. Generally speaking a wide lens close up will distort out, and an tight or “long lens” will distort in. This by itself may probably wouldn’t give the desired effect, but I suspect that’s why they hid it in a pull back or “Dolly Back” where the camera physically moves back either on a slider or dolly, which in this instance could help keep the composition frame roughly the same thus making the change more subtle. However it was done it was a lovely little bit of intentional filmmaking and I appreciated it.

If "not to scale" isn't a compliment, then I don't know what is.

I love the shot when Tim is sat at his litle round table, quite isolated not only for it's visual quality but also as I suppose it was intended to represent one's feelings when we're making a choice to engage on some level, especially when we feel isolated. Hence his little table and Laura's response, self-effacing. We can all find traps in the forest of the self if we're not careful or in good company that helps us coppice it. It was a really lovely short film. Hope that was ok for you. Sorry about the odd forest metaphor.

Hey, I don't think there is a moral. But there is something to learn, perhaps about empathy, for those who desperately need a little recognition. The story isn't about his feelings for her, it's maybe about his loneliness. He smiles at the end not because she gives him a little recognition, and that's enough for him. Loneliness is part of life, and may especially touch someone like him, who is shy, lives in a big city, works in an isolated way and is old enough to have lost friends through time. Maybe.

Difficult to say if both because comedy is subjective. What one person find humourous, another may not. For me it is both comedy and subjective but it also causes you to think. I mean, we meet people every day in the patterns of our life that we create, we visit the same shops, we take the same time transport etc and yet how much do we know about the people we see every day. I for one have often wondered about folk I see on the same train every day, I may ponder what job they do, are they married, are they happy, do they notice me like I notice them, that's what this touches base on. Nothing serial killer about it, a natural human response to the world around them. Even I have a coffee shop where the guy there serves me every day, he doesn't need to ask what I want, he just knows by heart, but I know nothing about him and he knows nothing about me we talk but we don't talk if that makes sense but I do sometimes wonder about him but not romantically, just like a curiousity of his life so to speak. So I get the writing and what it's trying to say but words are subjective to everyone, they're like moonbeams. :-)

I guess so, would of been good to of explored that more and perhaps in a longer subtler way.
