This has been requested quite a few times over the years and I have some Chicago friends that were interested in seeing it as well, so here it is...

I would argue that Datsyuk was his best line mate and Hossa was Datsyuk's best winger by a hair. Zetterberg was very very good in 06-08.

That first goal was all Datsyuk. Beauty play. Hossa was such a beast all the way through his career.

People talk about how Datsyuk makes things look so effortless, Hossa looks like he's hardly even trying.

I know franzen was hot at one time, but to send Hossa packing and sign franzen long-term is one of the biggest mistakes the red wings have made in history. sorry but I can't see any reason Hossa was worth so little to the wings after such a long history of locking down talent once they came to the D. This is so bittersweet and Chicago is very lucky to have him. What an amazing talent.

I know I've never been able to understand why they did that

They offered them both a contract at the same time. Franzen signed his immediately, and Hossa elected to wait after the playoffs.

You people do realize Hossa was offered a contract to stay but he opted for more money in Chicago, right? They didn't "send him packing".

@@ericlaus4417 IIRC, Detroit only had the money to sign one without significant roster juggling. And you're right, Chicago was able to offer him more money, not to mention the opportunity to play with young stars Toews, Kane, and Keith. These factors allowed the Blackhawks to offer a more long-term potential for success as opposed to the stellar but aging Lidstrom, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg. Also, Franzen was a cup winner at that time as well as an Olympic gold medalist, and most of the Red Wings were Swedes like himself. Just one of those things that didn't wash out well for the Wings, nor Franzen for that matter since we now know his diminishing abilities were due to horrific post-concussion symptoms. Had Franzen been a little luckier and Hossa's career-ending skin condition progressed earlier, we could be looking at a totally different set of events.

@Jax Teller I guess I’m not a real fan, then. Thanks for the wake-up call. I feel better now.

If Hossa plays the way he did in the regular season in the playoffs, we win back to back cups.

Pure goal scorer. Anyway to get his slap shot shoot out goal vs the Hawks? That was one of the sickest shots I ever saw. I love his release. Missing a pure scorer nowadays.

Thank you so much for posting this. It really makes you wonder if we could have won another cup or two if we had been able to keep him.

I know it’s late, but thanks for doing this! I was so excited Hosea was signed I screamed in my office!! I also crested a 12 year old Nuke Authentic Jersey with 81 Hossa and thought Holland would find a way to keep him. We all know how it turned out, but despite being a Black Hawk, I still liked him and got a team Europe Wcup jersey

detroit did not have the resources to give hossa 8-12 year contract with 6-7 mil. average salary . hossa took risk signing that 1 year deal anyway . he took another shot at the cup and missed , im glad he did it with hawks .
