Fun fact, the Japanese voice actors for the main characters (Luffy, Ussop, Nami, Zoro, and Sanji) have been voicing these characters since the start of the anime in 1999. They have also been voicing these characters in EVERYTHING One Piece related from the anime, movies, video games, amusement park rides, etc and also do their voices in the Japanese sub of the One Piece live action.

In case you weren't aware, Zoro takes promises VERY seriously. So, in the manga/anime, when Luffy got him to promise to be a member of his crew, Zoro meant that promise and as such decided to pretty much throw his lot in with Luffy. Also, the fact that Luffy trusted Zoro to have his back and take out Cpt. Morgan (who would have killed Luffy otherwise) while he took out Hellmepo who was holding Coby hostage also went a good ways towards building loyalty. So when, in the live action, we see both Zoro and Nami resisting being part of Luffy's crew, it was a bit of a surprise for those of us who watched the anime. But it also still fit the character, since in the live action Zoro hadn't made that kind of promise yet. And it was also a fun and funny dynamic that allowed for future character growth. And, regardless of how serious or even dark the story gets, fun is an absolutely essential part of this story. In a way I think the fun and comedy is part of what allows the story to not get so bogged down and actually enhances how hard the dramatic and tragic moments hit: that huge range of emotions from highest highs to lowest lows just makes the contrast that much greater and the impacts that much harder. And it's a true testament to Oda's writing that he's able to actually balance that out without it feeling unnaturally jarring or otherwise giving such severe emotional whiplash that it would take you out of the story.

I like Zoro being on board sooner in the anime. To me, it shows how easily he fell into Luffy's orbit, believing in him and showing his loyalty to him.

You can go on as long as you want about the music, not gonna hear any of us complain, we all love it ;)

I like how you noticed Zoro calling Luffy "captain". I felt it was a major blunder to leave that out of the live action.

12:55 One Piece live action actually references Buggy's intention to steal the map at the end of episode 1. He was going to have Cabaji steal the map the exact same day Luffy, Nami, and Zoro end up with it. The small, almost alternate ending style changes between the Live Action and Manga/Anime are what I think are some of the coolest parts about watching multiple adaptations.

The music in this show fits so well. Not enough reactors talk about it so it feels like a breath of fresh air when someone points it out :)

Here Coby told Zoro that Helmeppo didn’t plan on keeping his promise and was planning to execute him. Luffy being there actually saved his life which is the same as saving his “dream” to be the world’s greatest swordsman! Can’t do that if he’s dead. That’s why he said if I have to be a pirate I will spread my name throughout the world. The anime captures Zoro’s true Loyalty to Luffy.

"I want to watch more" is a good sign .. One Piece is a SLOW BURNER , but if this early makes you said "I want to watch more" , you gonna LOVE this show

You're spot on with the opinion of Luffy's english VA. I've got nothing against the actor, but every show she's been in grates my ears to no end. Like nails to a chalkboard.

I absolutely love that you're talking so much about the music, it's one of my favourite things about the anime too! With Zoro, he follows the bushido (the warrior way) very strictly so once he's acknowledged Luffy as his captain he's given his loyalty and that's that. I think that in the live action he doesn't acknowledge Luffy as captain right away, so that's why it takes longer for him to warm up to Luffy there? What Nami found in the safe was basically a message from Buggy saying "Yeah, I stole the map to the Grand Line like the magnificent bastard I am". They'll explain the Grand Line more but simply (and non-spoilery) put, it's an enormous sea lane which it is very difficult to get in and out of for various reasons. One of the biggest problems with the anime, especially after Arlong, is the pacing and in-episode filler (there's also some really weak animation somewhere around the middle, but it's going to take you a while to get there). There's a fan cut called One Pace that just cuts the repititions, filler, and padding, and I think it does a really good job. It saves you about a third of the total viewing time and a lot of frustration, lol.

Yeah In the anime, zoro is literally a day one. He was down with joining from the start and is still here, 20 years later

Colleen Clinkenbeard is the voice of Luffy. It is common for Women to voice boys.

Buggy won't disappoint you, the guy that plays Buggy in the live action did a great job capturing Buggy's personality. He is cruel, he is funny, and sometimes he is a pathetic coward. If anything I think you will like Buggy in the anime more but only cause the Buggy arc is longer in the anime and you will get to see more of him. Buggy plays the hand he is dealt, he knows how be cruel and takes advantage of people weaker than him but he also knows how to play the fool when he has to. His whole crew is one big circus 🤣

I thought live action Zoro was a bit too stoic compared to the anime version. He just feels more laid back here.

Luffy definitely has that kind of 'this guy is an idiot, so why do I feel like I can count on him?' energy, and Zoro certainly picks up on that fast, becoming one of the crew's main 'ride or die' members as a result. That being said the whole of the crew eventually becomes 'ride or die' too, but Zoro was undoubtedly the first.

Im glad youre liking it so far. Tbh the early episodes feel kind of slow sometimes and they are still just gathering the crew and not even at the grand line yet. I think this is the hurdle in starting this journey. Most of the fans start to get really hooked around Arlong park because there we find out about Nami's story and it is where they actually fight as a crew for the first time. And then they enter the grand line the story just keeps getting better after that. I wish you guys get to enter the grand line soon. But season 2 of live action might take 1 to 2 years.

About the Grand line. Without any spoilers and based on your knowledge about this 3 episodes and the live action: It's a really special and crazy, but small part of the world, where all the pirates heading to find the One piece. Gold Roger was executed 22 years ago and since then noone found the One piece. So, with more and more ppl moving in, to that small area, it becames the survival of the strongest rules there. Only those who survive that sea have the chance to find it.

i totally had the same views as you about the music and the art style when I first watched One Piece back in 2021. The anime started in 1999 so all that you see in these episodes will be old. But the show has maintained the consistency with the Den Den Mushis (Snail Phones) and overall antique and vintage feel. Also the goofy character designs were made on purpose and it is the funniest shit in One Piece.

Luffy's English voice actress gets better with time. I've watched One Piece in both languages and while I prefer Luffy's Japanese voice the English one does get better. Its not that great to begin with, but it starts to sound more natural as she goes. I enjoy her oerformance as well now.

Oda (the creator of the manga) actually first planned for Zoro to be part of Buggy's crew, and that Luffy and Zoro would meet during the Buggy arc, and at the end of the arc Zoro would leave Buggy and join Luffy. But Oda changed his mind, and what happened happened.

Don't to start being that guy but... damn the foreshadowing from so early on never ceases to amaze me :D

Zoro warmed up to Luffy so quickly because things went differently when they met. He explicitly made a deal with Luffy to bring his swords back in exchange with him joining the crew. In the live action he just kind of decided to stay to help and got dragged along.

I remember the first time i watched One Piece it was like 2020 :D At first i didn't like it and dropped around ep. 20 but i cameback after few weeks and in like 2 months i catched up :D Not gonna lie probably if not for lockdown i would never started it but I am glad I did. This is an extremely unpopular opinion in the anime community but I truly enjoy the dub more than the sub in a lot of cases. For One Piece, Luffys voice in the dub definitely grows on you and becomes extremely endearing (at least to me). Other characters are really well done in the dub as well. While I can definitely appreciate the original Japanese, I just CAN'T watch over 1000 episodes of this show where I'm reading. Like for one: you miss a lot of the amazing animation when you have to read. And for me, the emotional impact in some scenes are much stronger when I am hearing the words in English rather than reading them. Two: this show is sooooo drawn out in some spots. Of course you're a reaction channel so this won't be a problem for you because you plan to just sit and watch it all but it is really nice to do chores like laundry or whatever while watching and not having to stay attached to the screen because you have to read everything. This is my personal take of course and I know a lot of people disagree. My other opinion is I really wish more reactors reacted to the dub, as I only see sub reactions. It makes it hard to get through these videos because it requires my undivided attention. I have to sit and watch to be able to understand what is going on on screen. I would love to watch these while I cook or do other chores so I can hear your commentary and also hear what the characters are saying but I can't do that. I wanna watch more reacts but it's difficult given I don't have the time to give my full attention and that sucks. Anyways, the end lol.

I been loving your reactions to the anime while comparing it to the live action. I can't wait for you to get as far as the live action took you to.

Glad you are joining for the long ride that is ONE PIECE. I didn't start watching the anime until Covid shut down most of the country a few years ago. I wouldn't had gotten into it otherwise for a long time because over 1000 episodes is quite the beast to tackle. However, I don't regret it one bit. It may start slow as it did for me, but after a few arcs or so, I was HOOKED. One neat thing I noticed is that the storytelling of each arc/saga somehow gets better than the previous ones. That's why I was able to catch up and watch it all. You can tell the strength of storytelling improves over the years. You are in for a quite the ride. I also do agree with others saying to do between 2 to 4 episodes per reaction episode as the series is currently at episode 1078. That would take so long to get to. If you were to do 3 episodes per reaction episode, that'd be around 360 reaction episodes. That's A LOT. So, yeah, I would do numerous at a time. Just to make it easier. Take your time, though. It took me several months to catch up.

Love your reactions and do appreciate when you talk about the music. Only a few reactors do that. The music is amazing and some fans were expecting more influences of it in the Live Action tbh. Lol. As for Nami and stealing the map at the marine base…not really a spoiler probably at this point but if not on episode 6 by now feel free not to read below…in the live action at the end of the first episode buggy says “…it’s my map…” blah blah so…they sprinkled Easter eggs from the anime and manga in the live action.

As you noticed at the beginning, it's common for the early parts of One Piece to reuse the last minute or so of the previous episode at the beginning. Whatever you choose to do about it is totally fine in my opinion though! (some people skip through, other's watch it regardless, etc)

I'm really interested in your thoughts on some characters, that haven't really been focused on a lot in the live action or didn't appear at all. That will be really interesting
