@@EnglishCountryLife Well, as you're asking, I like hammers as well! I've just done up six - I recently inherited a tool chest from my great uncle - with progressively better results. I guess though the techniques for doing them up are somewhat the same as those for an axe, so perhaps not worth a video. Incidentally I'm now researching citric acid and bicarbonate of soda; I think you may have started something! Regards.

I quite like that idea! I'm thinking perhaps of chisels too, maybe an old rosewood plane, will have to see what turns up

I found an old axe with a very similar shape and weight to that one. What type did you call it? A limbing axe?

The shape is a Kent pattern on this one. Because its narrow its best for cross grain cutting rather than splitting. Given its a light head, it would make a nice hand axe on a short helve of a foot or so or an axe for removing the limbs of a felled tree (a limbing or snedding axe) if on a longer (two foot) handle.
