Axelay - Last Stage on Hard Difficulty

Oh and about this stage, I'm sorry about the quality but I had to lower it because the video was long. The video was supposed to show my ship shoot two lasers but it's all due to the quality. This time, in this stage, I actually died 2x after not dying at all on the other stages. This stage is the stage I'm kind of still struggling to get better at, that includes getting better with the side lasers (Wind Laser). Again, this is just me showing what the last stage is like on Hard Mode. I'm just showing my gameplay on Hard difficulty. On Hard mode, there are more enemies, more enemy fires, and situations get more tight.

great game! I love how the final boss scans your ship and then produces clones of it to attack you! very original!

back then when games really had style, difficutly and real epic moments... man I would give anything to have the 2D and SNES era back, only a few games can beat the snes, it still is my all time favourite console!

2:20 man what a creepy eerie ominous track. It stands out more than the graphics and bosses to me

I love this game for 2 reasons - 1, my last name is Axley. 2. I love space shooter games. This, Super Nova (Darius Force) and R-Type III : The Third Lightning are my favorites on the SNES. Genesis has some serious shooter gems you should look into if you already haven't - Thunder Force III, IV (AKA Lightening Force in the US), M.U.S.H.A., Gaiares, Sagaia (Darius II), ect. Either way, nice flying, Ace! :D

Hands down one of the best soundtracks on the SNES. Man what they did with the technology back then was epic. Also the sync beats in this level is off the chain! It just adds to the hype!

Hell of a video! I was relieved af when I finally beat this on Hard eighteen years ago and I don't know if I see how I did that after watching this. Konami was all-about the hardcore, old-school classics.

Awesome graphics, awesome sound, and awesome music. I wonder why this wasn't a more popular game. The only thing I can fault it is that it was a bit easy.

On hard, this last boss was incredibly, well, hard. This guy saved up alot of lives cause he didn't die once untill the last stage but this was no cake walk, as you can see. Props to the people who were able to beat this boss on hard without a game over.

Despite being so epic Axelay wasnt apreated enough, compared to darius twin, Gradiua 3, and UnSquadron or rayden project, those were the king of shootem up from our time.

unbelievable that there is no proper ending and the game starts playing again like in normal mode. I cant believe you did it dude, I used to struggle through hardest and die usually on last level. awesome game ...cool ...someone finally completed it.

I do remember beating this game on hard!. But i barely made it!. All my continues were gone, all my lives were gone, all weapos had been disabled, the alert alarm was telling me that i was about to die, and i was shitting on my pant!!

the thing is, if you play it through (hard mode) then it opens for you an "extreme hard" that you cant even choose.....to get this speed u need to play it through the hard level though:) (to have enough life and b able to play it through, I suggest to begin with "easy" and collect lives, then on level "normal" keep collecting lives, then u play through the "hard" and then u approach a speed where its impossible to play:))))

yes. I did it that way bc I knew I can't survive "hard" without enough life.....than kept playing and the pcu puts so many enemies that is not possible to do the first level anymore

Holy smokes! I remember playing this level clammy-handed and with my heart pounding. On easy mode that is! I think I got to the final boss on normal. Yeah I know: I'm crap...

But really well played ^^ I remember renting this game when i was about 10.. i had it for just one day, and actually managed to beat it the first time playing it on normal, too. Was incredibly nervous though ^^ But supremely focused!!!

Hyperdrake3 is right. After beating hard mode you can continue on with an even more challenging mode that will give you the "See you at Axelay 2" message...unfortunately we never did :(

@shamanflebus true, but if you want more breathing room Morningstar use is a must on this stage. And learn to "mess" with the shot patterns more. I'm impressed with the run though, makes me wish I still had my recordings from '93 :)

Great job, to me Hard is alrdy impossible to complete without using save&load state, not more to mention Extra Hard. Btw your primary weapon has 2 beams missing.

Excellent play of a great shooter. I got this one on VC recently and can only barely beat it on Normal. I heard the reward for winning on Hard mode is a code for Very Hard mode which, while living up to the label, also allows full use of all your weapons from stage 1, is that true?

@Xinfinitude Yeah i did. I was just saying i used to see that ending, then try to complete game a 2nd time( like Ibuki did) as it got harder/faster. Just seeing someone complete it is a good enough ending :-)

Bon, le passage avec les clones du vaisseau montre bien que la video est "tool assisted", c'est un passage délicat (un de plus) où on ne peut pas utiliser le tir secondaire comme un bourrin.

It's scripted which weapons you have. You always get one weapon after every level, and always in the same order.

but if you lose in super hard mode and want to try again, you can´t choose super hard on the screen where you can set your difficulty

it´s not the hardest difficulty. if you complete the game on hard you start over but now on super hard i completed the game in all 4 difficultys in a row, not died once on easy and normal and then had almost infinite lifes for hard and super hard, that´s how i completed the game easily if you complete it on super hard, there´s a writing at the end of the credits "see you in axelay2"
