I think tile is the coolest option and is really the perfect solution to the substrate issue. And you're amazing for going so far as to sand any points off your accent wood.

I have a 10 Gallon Tank with a melonoid Axolotl, and I named him Prince. (A while ago I heard that some people call their gills crowns, so I thought it fit him) and he's about 7 months old. I've watched a bunch of your axolotl videos that helped me set up my tank for him. And he's doing very well, so I just wanted to say thanks 😊

Mochi is such a perfect name! Leucistic axolotls are my favorite too. :) Can't wait to see him grow up and enjoy his beautiful new tank!

If you have a lot of decorations in your tank for your axolotl, bare bottom is great and easy to clean! They won't get stressed out if they have stuff to grip onto lol. Loving the tank! It looks amazing ❤️💕

Does anyone know much about tiles for the tanks? Do they sell these at pet shops? Are there types that are toxic to the axolotl? If someone could help me out with this that would be amazing! I love the look of the tiles

Great video and cute axie. You're doing everything right to take great care of that little guy, but just an FYI: I keep reading horror stories about axies that *jumped out of their tub* because it didn't have a top, or... it had a top but the axie pushed it off and ended up on the floor! Best solution is make sure the top is latched or there's a weight on top of it, so that cutie can't jump onto the floor.

I’m getting an axolotl and I’m really nervous but this has helped me to see what I need

Me, my dad and my brothers went to the pet store to check if there were any turtles. There was none but there were all kinds of other cool pets. A LOT OF FISH, quite a few birds that did cute sounds, a sleepy baby puppy, lizards, a snake, etc... AND THERE WAS AN AXOLOTL! It looked the SAME as Mochi. When I saw it, I said: "Hey! Look! It's Mochi! One of the turtle girl's pets!" My dad had NO clue about what I said. But my brothers had watched you a bit and ran to come see. It's way more interesting when you see it in person than on KZfaq. Anyway, I find it's a really cool animal! :)

Love the setup! I just moved my Axolotl into a 55 gallon tank from a 15 gallon tank he was getting a little big for the 15 and I had the 55 just laying around. But he loves the extra space 🙂

If you want to trim down the tile you could take it out and rub one edge against the concrete outside until it’s narrow enough to fit in. Make sure to wash the tile after sanding it down.

I have a lucy too, I find that axolotls are kinda hard to care and I had to buy a chiller because summer is so hot here in Romania, they can get ill and get fungus if the water temperature isnt right, also if is above 25 C they can die, also another thing is about the water movement, they can get stressed by that and again to get ill, also another thing that you can add to your tank are moss balls, mine loves to move them around

I’d recommend not putting the lights on, it stresses them out a lot. They also like a quiet environment, so if your filter is loud or anything- I’d recommend getting the quietest one you could find

I have a question my axolotl gills where chopped of by my fake tree in the tank as it was sharp it was bleeding non stop for about an hour can they regrow them even though there is no gills there for them to generate or can they just grow a new patch
