NOTE FROM TED: We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at a TEDx event, because it contains many assertions about Ayurveda that are not supported by the scientific community. Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
Dr.BM Hegde speaks on the idea of how the ayurvedic medicines are far better for the human body than western medicines. He talks about important theories on how the human body actually functions with a given environment and how Ayurveda blends itself with the human body. Dr.Hegde speaks about the importance of meta medicines which would eventually decide the health factor of humans on earth.
Dr.B.M Hegde is an Indian medical scientist, educationist, and author. He is the former Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Co-Chairman of the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai and the chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore. He has authored several books on medical practice and ethics. He is also the Editor in Chief of the medical journal, Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes. He was awarded the Dr. B. C. Roy Award in 1999. In 2010, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian awards. His articles and ideas in medicine are appreciated internationally and his passion for educating people is everlasting.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Yes. Ayurveda, and other "traditional medicine" actually bring a lot of people to the fraudulent people who promote them. They rip off millions of people in India and other Asian countries. Do you think the herbs and other "cures" are just picked by people for free? They are grown commercially, then these "doctors" of Ayurveda charge more on top of that.

Ayurveda has helped me recover from IBS,Gerd, and POTS. My CFS/ME is sixty percent better. You can change your life just by following Ayurveda lifestyle. Ayurveda medicines are near cheap, and no pharma companies would want to loose their business. Hence, millions are spent to belittle the traditional Indian medicine i.e Ayurveda.. He says integrative metamedicine should come & also modern medicine should be taken only during emergency. Assume Malaria, Dengue, typhoid as non emergency condition. If a patient is just diagnosed dengue. If he started on Ayurveda medicine, it doesn't cure. Internal infection raises to peak, lands up into emergency. So, according to him, finally modern medicine come into place?? 🤯🤯 And if the patient is expired , whole blame should be on modern medicine doctor?? 👎😴

@@drsairaviteja5842 sir, modern medicine can give antibiotics which are given for any infection. You may diagnose the patient with dengue or typhoid or chicken gunya. But, all are given the same antibiotics. There is no specific treatment for typhoid or chicken gunya or dengue or covid19. But, in all infections, plenty of water, nutrition, energy, motivation, and rest is needed to recover. Even if antibiotics are taken, water, nutrition, energy, motivation and rest are needed. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria. Patient becomes weak if he loses good bacteria. Good bacteria is needed to recover. One of close relatives got chickengunya. She never had any test. She just took some pain killers. She recovered completely, naturally. We have modern medicine since only eighty years. Lakhs of people lived for lakhs of years without modern medicine. I have avoided modern medicine so many times except when I was young, because I did not know the harmful effects of modern medicine.

There is no good evidence that Ayurveda is effective for treating any disease. Ayurvedic preparations have been found to contain lead, mercury, and arsenic, substances known to be harmful to humans. In a 2008 study, close to 21% of Indian-manufactured patent Ayurvedic medicines sold through the Internet were found to contain toxic levels of heavy metals, specifically lead, mercury, and arsenic.

Holism is nice, but do you need more of this? Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery (BAMS), supervised by the Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS) may teach how to conceive a baby boy. The third year of BAMS textbook teaches students on ways to conceive a baby boy. According to BAMS if you have to conceive a baby boy you have to collect two north facing branches of a Banyan tree that has grown in a stable, take two grains of urad dal mustard seeds, grind all the ingredients with curd, and consume the mixture. Originally this information has arrived in Charaka Samhita, the pre-2nd Century CE compilation on Ayurveda and now BAMS have copied this text and circulated in their syllabus. According to the textbook, the process of creating a male foetus is called `Pusan van', and any woman who desires a boy should be "blessed with the Pusan van ritual" as soon as she gets pregnant. The textbook has various techniques to conceive a baby boy and one of the technique is quite expensive, that is, "Create two miniature statues of a man out of gold, silver, or iron after throwing the statues in a furnace. Pour that molten element in milk, curd or water, and on an auspicious hour of Pushp Nakshatra, consume it." Another trick to conceive a baby boy mentioned in the textbook is to "Cook rice flour with water, and while cooking, the woman should inhale the steam. Then add water to the cooked flour, and soak a ball of cotton in it. The woman should lie on the threshold so that her head touches the ground. Then, with that cotton ball, the liquid should be poured in her nostrils. It should not be spit out, instead, it should be swallowed."

Just like anywhere else where the "mainstream" is the norm, its filled with dogma´s and they hate to be really challenged. No matter the number of serious scandals therir have been in the medical world; many of them still act like mainstream medicine is flawless. Then their is the thing that a lot of doctors also benefit financially for perscribing certain meds/treatments due to agreements they have with big pharma.

He is a renowed heart surgeon. He is into modern medicine. He has seen the in and out. Yes mind is not in the brain which means that germ cell also controls your body and yes, you are your doctor. It depends on how you take care of yourself, your lifestyle. Ayurveda only prescribes the idea if only if you're interested to lead an 'ideal' most healthy life. It helps you explore yourself, tap into hidden dimensions which you cannot comprehend by simply ranting on social media. If you wanna know, follow it and then discard if it doesn't work for you.

I don't want to put this in English but I am so wretched that I do not know Sanskrit . I confess I have done great injustice to the country which has shown light of the universe to this very world. This comment is not to brag myself that I am an Indian that does not make any sense . As we are the world , there is no separate world . coming to Mr. Hegde , I know not how grateful I am to you and the fraternity which keeps clearing my wretched intellect queries . Please keep going , we need this , this is Ultimate knowledge not information . Today we are just bombarded with information which makes no sense but knowledge that you and many others are showering on us is commendable on its own . Thank you .

Placebo is refers to a sugar pill/medication not relevant to the disease being treated. Ayurveda doesn’t only have placebo pills as medication, it has various other drugs extracted from plants.

I am myself a doctor and researcher. And have been for 20 years now. Dr Hegde has an ulterior motive which is not scientific. I do not wish to go into all that but will simply maintain that no one who understands medicine will agree with a single thing he is spouting here. You believe his qualifications are enough for you to believe whatever he says. Well, good luck then. I can only pity you. He is taking you for a ride and you are willingly getting conned.

And please remember I do not need to prove anything. Those who make tall claims i.e. Dr Hegde here, have to prove their claims. I do not need to do anything but he needs to show us evidence of his bullshit. Has he provided any evidence? Nope.

I am on track to graduate medical school in the US next year and I wholeheartedly agree with his criticisms of western medicine. for example; the number needed to treat (nnt) for many common medicines is 100. that means any given patient has about a 1% chance of achieving the desired outcome of the treatment. would you take the pill if I told you it was 1% effective? would you pay for it? upvote/reply and I will post more examples. edit: i posted this halfway in before he started talking about ayurveda and I lost track at that point. Will rewatch though.
