I was there that night--sitting four seats away from Ron Saunders and co. That game was so different to the crap we have endure in today's Premier (foreign money) League No rolling around in apparent agony - no diving- no arguing with every referee decision - no wrestling in the penalty box. Two honest teams trying their best to win --oh happy days.

You are so so right there mate. Was broken hearted aged 12 that night having been to my first Wembley visit for the 0-0 final. Some real History between the two clubs.

Only a year or so and Villa no.3 John Robson was struck down by MS aged just 28. Suffered a lingering, wasting illness for the next 25 years and passed away in 2004, aged 53. RIP John. Fond memories.

I just love this not-perfect football, real sport. In the cup final, both Everton full backs wear no.2 shirts! The pitch is not perfect lawn, it's muddy and players slip on it. The most fantastic was the crowd of photographers back goals, that was an indication for which team may score more. However i think that was perfect, real footballers, real fans, real photographers and real atmosphere, real sport.

yes , I remember the Sunday afternoon highlights of the first match with old baldie , lovely Brian Moore on the big match , the most exciting thing was when one of the soldiers in the band lost his spurs somewhere on the pitch at half time

Yeah was in the Stretford end with all the other bluenoses, so after a dull Wembley game 0-0, then equalising thru Bob Latchford with only seconds left at Hillsboro 1-1 in the 1st replay, you knew the game at OT was gonna be different & it was by far the best game of the three! Neither team deserved to lose & with only seconds remaining in extra time at 2-2, we didn't clear the ball properly, a few players were flat footed except for Little, who had the easy task to prod home from a yard or so as our lads just stared, obviously they were all shattered, it was such a cruel way to lose a final, but Villa had a good team back then & what a difference to today's games, night & day, no diving, feigning injury, all out to win the game without cheating!

An absolutely absorbing and exhausting encounter, classic old style cup football. I'm biased but Villa and especially Mortimer, Cropley and Cowans seemed to control midfield with tenacity and neat passing, really relentless. The crucial negative was too much wasted final ball, poor end product, wild crosses from Little and Graydon. But at the final scenes, I had tears in my eyes and incredible emotions welling up in me...pride in the lads, pride in the Lions.

Now I remeber what football used to be like and why I rarely watch the modern game of the premiership. If this game was played in 2023 we would have had 15 VAR controversies. 30 stretchers, 15 oscars and at least 3 sending offs for theatrical impersonations of a tackle made to look like a threat on life. YES THE MODERN IS NOT WORTH WATCHING

Feed up! I did not go to this, as Wembley and then Hillsborough was so poor. When I listened on the radio I could not believe it was the same two teams. And what a climax.

One of three teams the great Ron Saunders built. Grey went and then Gidman, but there was greater things (and players ) to come. Sadly we lost players through injury, Cropley, Deehan. I don't know if Graydon was sold?
@malthusXIII-fo3ep7 ай бұрын
Weeks later, Graydon nearly joined Leicester but the deal fell through, soon after however, he went to Coventry for £35,000.

Really emotional scenes for any Villa watcher but I wish the cameras could have scanned around the whole ground at the end to see also the response from the Everton fans.
