We’re in the 2000s revival. We’re about to go to space. Culture is really about to take off. And who better to set it off than the messy legend herself, Miss Azealia Amanda Banks. I’ve been thinking about the 2000s a lot recently. The iconic pop culture moments. The messy, trashy and often horrible celebrity culture. But what a great era of pop culture that was. Yes, it was often extremely racist and homophobic and sexist and…if you were trans, you basically shouldn’t even exist but I think it says a lot that so many young people are looking back on that time as a really exciting and liberating era…that along with it’s bad sides, it really was just fun era of pop culture with bright colours, shiny lip gloss, barely any clothes and outrageous statements.
And now 20 years has passed and we’re actually in the 2000s revival, I would love for some of that messy, iconic celebrity culture to make a comeback. And who better to do it than Azealia Banks. At this stage in her career, she certainly has made a lot of enemies and burnt a lot of bridges but I think with great music and a lot of support, she really could make something of a comeback.
