The Caucasian Albanians (also spelled as Alban, Aghvan, Aghban, and Alpan) were a nation, which, according to the ancient geographer Strabo, consisted of 26 tribes, ethnic groups, such as Albans themselves, as well as Gargars, Udis, etc. Some of them were of Turkic descent,e.g. Tomris, while majority were indigenous authohontous Caucasian tribes, speaking in Caucasian languages.It should be noted that Tomris is a Turkic name, in fact, the name of the she-wolf who according to the myth saved ancient Turks from annihilation.

---It's more interesting, cuze We can see in an ancient map of Alexander the Great a region named Germany---somewhere in north of Iran ----and it was something extremely interesting here in USA --when TV 13 gave some footage from a German TV during the Nazis years-where German scientists were working in Nepal measuring the scull of the people over there, and compared them to the German people to see the Similarities cuze they thought the first Germanic people came from there

This word comes from the Greeks that use this word to describe the country of the illyrian tibe of Albani in balkans. They use this world also to Caucasus because the people there where the same. The local name of Azerbaijan was "Aran" that time

Iranian government always claims Azerbaijan as part of Persia, but the true history shows that the Azerbaijani-Turkic dynasties had had ruled modern Persia/Iran, and influenced its culture, language, and DNA for several centuries 952AD-1925; such dynasties include the Qara-qoyunlu, Aq-Qoyunlu, Khazars, Shirvanshah, Safavid, Afsharid, Qajars, and Seljuks. During the Azerbaijani dynasties, Turkic was the language of the Royal Palaces and military & Shiite-Islam was brought and forced on Persians.

Even the name "Azeri" comes from the iranian word "Azerites" that stands for the zoroastrian fire-worshipers. I didn't said that the Azeris aren't autochonus but that the Illyrians are old caucasian nation.

Azerbaijan was known as Albania by the Romans and Byzantines, while modern Albania was known as Illyria by Romans and Byzantines. The 26 ancient peoples of Azerbaijan are nowadays the North Caucasian peoples: the Lezgis, Avars, Lak, Dargwa, Chechens, Ingush, Udi...etc. Turkic peoples appeared in the 4th Century AD. The Persians ruled Azerbaijan and an Autonomous provice within the Achaemenid and the Sassanid Empires.

Atropatene was the Hellinisic name of south Azerbaijan. The native name was Arya name for all Iran that time. The north Azerbaijan has the name "Aran". The ancient Azerbaijanies were Caucasians and now Turk-Caucasians and the south Iranians and now Turk-Iranians

This is right. Arvanites, Arnaut are words that describe Albanians. This is also right that the at lest 2 ancient Illyrian tribes where know as Albani. Maybe Greeks call Albani the Arbanis.

The prefix ar is very common to Caucasus. Then Greeks change it to al that in Greek means the natural light (contrary to the el that means the divine).

Every educated person in the world knows balkan albanian and caucaus albanians are completely different peoples. The balkan albanian are an indo european language while caucaus is not indoeuropean. You kids have to grow up and let go of the unnecessary hatred, its the 21st century and everyone is educated. Also to educate some, there is no migrations of albanians to the balkans before, during, or after the ottoman times.

Lol that’s the different Albania. It’s the Caucasian one. These people are not Indo-European. Caucasian linguistic group.

First--Albanians called themselves Arbanians as A. Komnena says--than greeks called them arvanites But this name begin around 1000 AD, not before, so there is no any connection between Albanians of Ballkans and Albanians in Caucasus But Scotland was called Albani in the same time with this in Caucasus Illyrians came from Caucasus in Balkans at the time when White Population came from Caucasus that's why here in USA when u are a white race ,u should say in ur papers --White Caucasian

I don't agree about Illyrians being an old caucasian nation. The historical Albanians ('mountainous land') which are the forefathers of the Azerbaijani people were caucasian. Nowadays Albanians are decendants of the Illyrians, balkanic people. It is merely a name coincedance in English, cause Albanians call their country Sqiptar. Azerbaijani people don't like being called Azeri, cause they say it is Persian chauvanism, trying to assimilate Turanian people into Persians...

you people need to read more, before firsr centure, during the illyrian and alexander time, people and tribes travlled, and where ever they settelled, they give thier own name, thats,, for examples why streets and churches in the uk are called albany, is because illyrian tribes come to uk during roman times, thats all, and the catholci churched was named st albans, as they were all christians, from the illyrian tribe, people move and keep their name in genereation.

--The word Alban has no any meaning in Greek language-- -on the other hand,Anna Komnena who mention for the first time the name Alban--says that :--the people who live around Kroya--Albania, call themselves Arban--not Alban---that's why u call Greeks with Albanian origin Arvanites Latter on the the R becomes L-- In ancient times has been even another country named ALBANIA--This is SCHOTLAND Even ENGLAND has had a different name like ALBION--which is the distorted form of the name ALbani

The Persian propaganda that Azerbaijanis are Turkinized Persians is absolutely wrong. There is nothing called pure nation on earth. Azerbaijanis are like every other nation has mix DNA, culture, & tradition because of the mixed marriages among the avrious peoples who invaded it and among its ancient Caucasian tribes. In the 7th Century AD and forward, the Turkic population started to increase with the arrival of the Khazars, then in the 10th century AD.

Azerbaijan use to be called Albania. Not until recently have they become a Muslim nation. Before they were a Christian nation. There are still old Church's in Azerbaijan today. However, there are some in today called Armenia. There is a video of Armenians scraping off the Azeri writing on these Church's and replacing them with their own. Today Armenian historians try to spread a lie about their history and erase Azerbaijani history.

It was not 'Aran', it was Atropatene and Azerbaijanies are also Turks. The Turkish race does not exist. Turks are a nation consisting of various tribes with the same culture, language, history and pre-islamic religion. Today's people from Turkey are decendants of the Hittites, Greco-Anatolians, Caucasians, Phoenicians, Mesopotamians etc. Just check out eupedia . com and look at Turkey's DNA. The Caucasian Albania has nothing to do with Illyrian Albania. Azerbaijani history is much more older.
