How to Flush an Aquahot or Hydrohot RV Hydronic Boiler

Once again an RV makes an easier job much more difficult. After finally getting the HVAC system to call for heat on both zones, I discovered the circulating pumps were siezed. When I went to replace the pumps, I found the hydronic fluid plugged and gross. So join me as I flush the system repeatedly and fill it. This was a HydroHot HHE200 but should be true for all AquaHots and HydroHots. Thanks!

Isn't there a drain plug for the tank under the unit? Look under the RV and there should have been a hole cut to have access to a drain plug. (although the RV is gone now) I have a HydroHot 200, and I'm about to flush the system. It was good to see how you did it. Thanks

I got to do this. When I got my Wanderlodge last summer one of the things the dealer did was 'fix' the Aquahot. They had the coach 2 months doing all the work. I visited it a few times while it was getting fixed. One time I stopped, it was getting the the Aquahot 'fixed'. What I saw was a whole unit laying on the ground behind the coach. The tech ran out around the coach with another one . I assumed it was the one that came in the coach. My sales guy asked him how it was going. I'll never forget. He was like, not today, not today, I am having a awfully day, leave (me) alone. He grabbed the unit that was sitting there and and ran off. I gather I have a used, working unit. I need to pull the cover and look at the pumps.

I completely empathize with the tech in that scenario. I wonder if the original one was leaking. Those are very expensive units and not the easiest task to swap.

@@AZExpert No doubt. This was a super center. Maybe 20 coaches in a huge building under A/C. I assume the pressure is huge. I got a job with them 25 years ago when they were still small. I worked 2 days. The boss was toxic as sh*t , yelling and barking orders. I did time in the Navy and it wasn’t that bad. I imagine it’s one of the reasons they got so big.

Bigger than that. Biggest in SW FL. The new service shop must have 40 bays. It's crazy. I knew a guy who worked there. They are merciless. I have it in now 3 years. Hardly used but I need to drain it and see what version of pumps I have.

I have seen it worse than that one. As a result of this video I and a friend flushed our system. AHE-100-02S, it was thick and black like oil, w/ chunks. But now we don't have hot shower.

Regarding heating systems my travel trailer has a factory propane forced air heater. My understanding is the factory blowers use a lot of electricity. Do you know if there are replacement blowers which use less power? I like the idea of the Olympian Wave heaters not using electricity but as they don't vent the gases outside you have to deal with condensation. Maybe there are propane heaters that vent the combustion gas out of the RV and provide radiant heat without the use of fans?

Those catalytic heaters do work well and many RVers use them. Of course besides the condensation issue, there are many safety concerns like basically an open fire inside, and exposed LP lines and valves that could be damaged. They work well in one spot or area, but do not heat an entire RV evenly. The earliest RV's used a non-electric radiant LP heater generally in the floor, but those got phased out 40 years ago. I cannot say there is any forced air lp furnace on the market that uses less energy, the manufacturers are more concerned about safety.

Just found my 400Dis leaking slowly from inside. Any way to get the outer shell off to access the tank?

Do you worked on Lippert hydraulic jack pumps? Mine leaks where the motor bolts to the manifold.

yeah they tend to do that it's not something I work on, hopefully it's just the oring around the tank but usually its something worse

With all that corrosion and sediment something is getting eaten away and it's going to fail I noticed the drain was black iron that's going to rust but what caused all that corrosion and sentiment? And if they put the boiler antifreeze in wouldn't that help to prevent all that?

I see you bought a hose bib and installed it on a boiler. There is a difference between a H***, bib annaboil valveput the right part on. You're not a plumber so you don't know the difference
