Hi Lou. Absolutely beautiful job! I have to say that every time you mentioned "silver" while having issues with the hull colour I was mentally shouting "no Lou - aluminium !" (translation: aluminum 😉) I would have gone with a satin finish but that is entirely a matter of personal taste and artistic impression. I'm not an aficionado of Lost in Space but the Jupiter 2 always reminds me of the alien saucers from one of my favourite shows - The Invaders ☺

The original Jupiter 2 or Gemini 22 was painted with a dull aluminum paint than a shining one. The fact is that depending on the type of television you had in 1965, it will determine the colour of the spaceship.

Very nice final observations. The plug-n-play kits are *so* good to the project, money is not a thing. My own sweet little fiddly burden fusion core kit is a royal pain but, as you say, is the first thing to do-- perhaps the only. And it comes with warm white LEDs. (Sorry, bud-- they're still too cool!) I found Rustoleum's Aluminum did the job as well as can be told from seeing the ship on a DVD video. A straightforward job done exceedingly well. Your chum will be pleased.

Here's a thought Lou.....I dont make many models but warching your channel for the last few years enspired me to try lighting. I had a revell tos enterprise; bought a load of mixed leds, some strip leds, and the new raspberry pi pico board. Learnt to solder (after a fashion) and learnt to write a simple python program on the pico. End result....an enterprise that light up in stages, with flashing nav lights and pulsating engines. In a word....get inspired and have a go! Here in the uk a pico costs £3.60....cheap enough for experimentation.

Glad I searched for you on KZfaq! Made this Jupiter years ago and recently threw it away when it fell off the shelf and broke….now I bought it all and am doing it again. The little extra tips will make my new Jupiter 2 so much better. Next model kit to KZfaq suggestion: how about the chariot? Got your masks for it and am incredibly intimidated. Going to do the chariot with 3d printed figures then tackle the Jupiter 2 next.

Great Job Lou Finish is Great Lighting rig Is really Awesome, My only little hit up was the window rods had a bit of over spray on the edge. Would recommend using the bottom of a X-acto blade upside down and gently push off the excess over spray off rods and smooth the rough over spray edges aside from that your J2 is Right on Lou your J-2 is Rocking Great Job Lou. When showed the inside i, it made me reminisce bout my Lost in Space Days. May try my hand on the build. Awesome job. = )

Fantastic job as usual Lou! You are probably aware that there is an excellent video on restoring the original lost in space pilot filming miniature which was named the Gemini 12.that version had much larger front windows and fusion core and new miniatures were built when the ship was re designed with a lower deck.the Gemini 12 was painted a flat aluminum color.Paul Lubliner did a fantastic job restoring the miniature to it's original condition. Thanks for another informative build video!!😀😀

Lou , You shouldn't touch the paint work with your hands . You getting oil from your skin on the surface and that could lead to fisheye and weird anomaly's. Please invest in a small cup gun , that is the biggest problem your having painting these large surfaces doing metallic colors. Spray cans yield to many possibilities for spattering and uneven finishes. Harbor Freight sells small touch up cup guns for under $20. You can decant the canned paints and run them through the Cup Gun. Trust me on this.

I agree, start out with a simple circuits ... i've done 2 kits now and had problems with the second kit as I went with Blinking lights for Navs and i had problems with some LED's due to changing the wattage of the resistors. blinking/strobing lights are a beast on there own. simple lights is the way to go for a series of kits before you go to the next level. otherwise, the lighting kits would be the way to go... everything is taken care of.

the jupiter 2 & space pod were the best things about LIS to me as a 9, 10 & 11 year old boy back in the day - they could put their j2 through anything thrown at them and it always succeeded in keeping them safe/alive - i was mesmerized how cool it was going through space (or even crashed in some shots) and could never get enough of all the shots of the interior, the gadgets & the room they had - it was so cool - anyway - i do have a question(s) if you know the answer(s) - the 2 circles to the left & right of the upper viewport serve what purpose - i know the somewhat larger one near the back/rear of the upper hull is for a retractable radar - then on the lower hull there is of course the lower viewport & 2 good size "hatches???" - one i imagine is for the space pod, but which hatch? and then the other hatch is for what - i believe i never saw anything (used) from the bottom of the j2 except the space pod & landing gear - great work! thanks! :)

Love those mid week updates!! The Jupiter 2 looks great Lou. The final silver paint turned out nice and even. That blotchy look is the problem I always have trying to do a silver metal finish. So much so I try to avoid it and use a gray instead. Speaking of gray I do like the way the gray front window frame contrasts with the hull color. I would never have thought about that but it looks good. If your B9 gets a glimpse of this he'll activate I'm sure!! Great job as usual Lou!!

Excellent work as usual ,the only lost in space kits I've ever built were the movie versions ( long since vanished sadly ) the plug and play lighting is my kind of set ( I'll admit to being bad at lighting diagram/setup/soldering ect ) which is why I've avoided building my ds9 kit ( original kit with lights and fiberoptics ) yes prebuild sets are costly but worth it if electronically inept

Alright, Lou, how did I miss this when you posted it weeks ago? It just showed up on my phone tonight. I think you either possess a time machine and went back and posted it, or you shot me with some sort of ray beam that made me lose time. Very nice job. As you said, it’s too bad that it’s all sealed up so you can’t see what’s inside, except through the windows.

Great Video Lou. A business question. I am lookong for window masks for the 1/1400 scale Enterprise E but don't see them sold buy anyone. There is a new technique for painting and lighting the E but it requires that you scrape the paint away from the windows. I would rather spend the time and mask the windows and remove them after painting them. Probably would take the same amount of time but I would rather have the masks. I already built the E for a child who had cancer and I drilled all those windows out. To me that's worse than masking. Unfortunately the child passed away during the pandemic and I wasn't able to get it to him. I am hoping his parents want it but I will keep it in my collection until they take it or not. It will remind me about him. He was a brave kid. Anyway if you do make them would you know who carries them. I tried cul tv man and monsters in motion but no dice. Thanks for the second video. I enjoyed it.

I've tried cutting window masks for that kit and the god's honest truth is that they are so small that the there isn't enough adhesive left on the vinyl for it to stick to the plastic. I don't like scraping either, but it's the best alternative I can find
