I think the writers already confirmed that they also forgot she was blind here, and meant it as she couldn’t see bc she was secluding herself from the group, the very think Katara had been upset with her about. Still savage both ways though, and Katara definitely has it in her to be that mean at times, but she always makes up for it.

I think Azula burnt Iroh for 2 reasons 1 He posed the biggest threat to hear out of all Azula's opponents 2 He let his guard down the most in that moment

Yeah I don't like when people call her on that, I mean what were they expecting her to do ? Surrender and not try anything as soon as an opportunity would arise ? How many times did the team got captured by one antagonist or another, if they stayed quite and surrender "honorably" their wouldn't be a show lol , while would it be different for her.

One of the reasons I love Azula is because of her desire for everything to be perfect. We see in her intro episode that she says, "Almost isn't good enough". So if something is even one hair out of place, she will notice. Not just in regards to herself but in other people as well. So when Azula was outnumbered and she noticed that Iroh was distracted for even an instant, she took her chance to strike. If you give her the slightest opportunity, you'll likely be met with your downfall.

@@kairostimeYT I disagree, Ozai is nowhere near as precise as Azula. Ozai uses power, he's insanely good at firebending, probably the best in the world, but he doesn't display the same degree of perfectionism.

What I love about this show is that the characters have unique upbringings, which make them "flawed" and sets up nice character developments. In this episode Tophs characteristics are really well portraited. She's been treated as fragile and weak, because of her blindness and therefor she believes that who ever makes an effort to help her, thinks that she is weak and can't do on her own. Her spoiled upbringing is probably also the reason she seeks independence and doesn't help out Katarra.

Anyone who hurts Iroh is on the top of every Avatar fan’s shitlist but you gotta admit, Azula was great as a tactical fighter. A fight is a fight, the point is to win/survive and you have to take advantage of any opening you can find. Especially when she was overwhelmingly outnumbered and cornered like that. It’s very similar to Fern killing that demon in Frieren (when she took advantage of him being distracted by the other demon fighting Stark). It’s also absolutely a tactic that anyone in the Aang Gang (esp Sokka) would have taken advantage of if they’d been the ones surrounded and cornered.

This is a great episode, I think it often gets overlooked when people mention what their favourites are because there are just so many other amazing episodes, but there are a bunch of great moments in here. The fight at the end is one of the best, Iroh's conversation with Toph is top tier, lots of 10/10 moments here.

its important to remember toph has been babied and retreated like shes helpless for most of her life which is why she was sneaking out to fight in the undergrounds fights just to have some freedom and do things she enjoys. so now thats shes actually free away from her parents she wants to show her independence and actually prove she doesnt need anyone and can hold her own weight

Honestly my favorite part of this episode was Toph throwing Iroh's advice back at him, Iroh is always so dependable you sometimes forget that he's just as human as everyone else.

So epic when they come together and hit the 🅱️ with all 4 elements at once. And Iroh is easily one of the most beloved characters, not even just in Avatar for some. So many wonderful life lessons. RIP Makoto Iwamatsu.

Imagine Iroh did die there after saying “I know he doesn’t want me around right now but if he needs me I’ll be there”. Zuko needed help fighting Azula and Iroh was there, and it would’ve been the last thing he’d ever do 😭

the thing about azula...she is incredibly intelligent, not even for a 14 year old, just so intelligent about people and situations, period. its no coincidence that she, the second born, was favored by her father, also the second born.

The reason Toph was carrying her own weight as she said wasn't necessarily to be selfish but to be independent we know how she was treated at home and she doesn't want people to see her as helpless because she's blind.

Let's not undercut Azula's feat here, she managed to avoid being captured while surrounded by the series most elite benders we've seen! She used a cheap shot, emotional baggage and the fact most of them were super tired? Yes! But still One thing that is cool to point out is that in order for them to chase them, a flying target, while on foot, they too didn't get any rest, and seem to be completely fine, military training perhaps? Another impressive trait to add to the list

I posted earlier that you would grow to love to hate Azula. She is the perfect villain. She assessed her opponents and struck at the biggest threat. She also knew the others wouldn't go after hervas they would tend to their fallen comrade. And, it just occurred to me that she used the same high level escape fire bending technique that Jeong Jeong used in season. She knew Iroh would know the technique and how to find her. No one else would know where she went.

Picture - there is an authoritarian father, a mother who was forced into marriage, and two children, in one of whom the mother sees from childhood a copy of the father she hates, in the second she sees herself, with the first she is cold, does not show affection and generally avoids him, but loves the second , spends time with him and brings him. Katara didn't heal him. You can see they fly away and have a nice sleep. And the story doesn't go for the path that Zuko being ally just because Katara help his uncle but the way much more better
