As a Tyzula fan, I would’ve loved for Ty Lee to just dismiss all those boys at the party, and then started kissing with Azula, revealing their secret relationship in front of all those guys, and just seen their disappointment and shocking reaction to Ty Lee being lesbian, and maybe also revealing Azula’s identity, for a double reaction. In a non kids show today, that could’ve happened, with Zuko and Mai of course knowing all about it, but never being allowed to tell anyone. But who’s to say that Azula and Ty Lee weren’t doing some friends with benefits stuff, cause Ty Lee never seemed very scared of Azula, and was only concerned about Azula killing Mai at the boiling rock, so I think they could’ve had something together off screen. And I think Ty Lee would've mind Azula being the dominant one in their relationship, since Azula never abused or hit her physically, and Azula would probably show affection, kindness, and even be a little shy when secretly being intimate with Ty Lee, a personality she could never show in public. Also, the TyZula fanfiction story called Blue Fire is incredible, please read and share it, the best fanfiction story I've ever read.

Now that I’m older, this episode made me feel sorry for Azula. Due to Ozai’s influence on her, she sees anything as a war or battle, doing whatever it takes to win. She’ll never get the chance to live, feel or interact like a normal teenager.😔😔😔

I like how this episode shows the perspective of the villains while still feeling fun. It also shows how you can sympathize with these characters, even Azula (she’s still a monster) we also get to see Zuko come to terms with his choice and even how after he got everything he wanted, he still doesn’t feel happy. I just find it absolutely wild that the voice of such a wholesome character like Emily Elizabeth from Clifford the Big Red Dog or Wubbzy from Wow Wow Wubbzy....is also Azula. Grey DeLisle truly is an incredible voice actress with such range! The whole bit with Azula saying "WE WILL DOMINATE THE EARTH" and Chan's facial expressions after and slowly walking away is so priceless. Also, the Admiral Chan mentioned in this episode, this is the same Admiral Chan we learn in The Awakening from Fire Nation officers who was on leave for two months on Ember Island! So while we never see Admiral Chan, we finally see his son, confirming he was indeed on Ember Island! Chan and his son were named after writer May Chan who wrote The Boiling Rock Part 1! According to the storyboard for this episode, it originally included a bit where Combustion Man actually killed the soldiers that spotted Aang to prevent the news from spreading, but this of course wasn't included in the final episode. One thing about the group deciding to just wreck Chan's party is that it actually makes sense psychologically. It's that concept of being in pain and not knowing how to deal with it, and so just f'ing up someone else's day as an outlet. They have never been taught that this response isn't okay, because they're all from a ridiculously high social standing.

GREY DELISLE! So glad you brought her on for The Beach, it was the best way to react to this episode! And wow, Grey's grandmother...what a legend. The volcano where Combustion Man attacked the Gaang was based off the Viti crater (meaning "hell") in Iceland. While the Fire Nation is mostly culturally based off Japan, Ember Island is based off Southeast Asian beach resorts like in Thailand. Azula's clothing in this episode is inspired by traditional Southeast Asian clothing, particularly the fashion of the Angkor Empire (802-1431), a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom. This empire encompassed modern-day Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The thick gold necklace she’s wearing was a popular accessory for royalty during the Angkor period, influenced by the style of jewelry coming from India. The sport they play on the beach isn't volleyball. They call it kuai ball and it was based off the real-life sport sepak takraw which is popular in Southeast Asia like Thailand. As shown in the episode, it's like volleyball, except you don't use your hands. The word sepak is Malay for kick while the word takraw is of Thai origin, translated as muzzle or woven rattan ball. So "Sepak Takraw" quite literally means "to kick a rattan ball". A spike is more difficult in sepak takraw than volleyball because slamming the ball down hard means getting your feet above the net. The movement required is a bit like a bicycle kick in soccer/association football

Such a fun episode! It’s so much fun to watch Azula be terrible at basic human things like flirting, socializing, and playing sports. She’s so brilliant at everything except being a normal person. And it’s also interesting to see how “Azula always lies” even applies to what she says to herself; we can see later that she knows her mother loved her, but she has to tell herself a different story to try and protect herself from the hurt and abandonment.

I got the Blu-Ray DVD of Avatar as a Christmas present from my sister, and when COVID rolled around, I watched the show and felt like indulging in tea myself, and now, I'm so hooked. Because tea can be very refreshing and calming. Like if I have a hard day at work, or I get bored, I just put on some music from like whatever anime I watch, or any video game I play, have a little sip, and sing along, and I feel more at ease and in a zen like state. This was a good relaxing video and pretty spiritual. Thank you very much.

😮 What a guest! I didn't know Grey DeLisle was part Mexican and went to high school in my town of Chula Vista, alongside Mario Lopez!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Grey's grandmother's stories remind me of my own Nana's stories...she would just leave me speechless with the life she had when she was young, being in a traveling circus, her partners... lol 😂

Everyone always goes on about Azula in this episode, but too many DON'T talk about Aang vs Combustion Man. Aang's reaction time has to be CRAZY in order to torque his body around, and create an air shield BEFORE the explosion sets off, AT POINT. BLANK. RANGE. The ONLY other people to stop that kind of explosion was Avatar Korra who made an air shield to save her friends from an explosion not from a combustion bender, and Avatar Yangchen, who was able to collapse a Combustion Bender's lung at point blank range in order to save herself. Also also, I love that it was Toph who was concerned about Aang and telling him to cover up his tattoos, when she's the one who can't see lol.

i love grey's stories and michaela's chemistry with her. not surprised that azula and toph would get along. they're both boss in their own way. azula with her lightening bending and toph inventing metal bending. also both of you are so charasmatic, beautiful, and cool in real life that I was so invested in wherever the conversation was going. kudos to you for allowing grey to just talk and for asking great follow ups

OMG Grey Delisle! Azula herself! I love how today's episode just felt fun with discussions of the episode, being on the road, and advice from Grey. Book Three is definitely my favourite of Avatar: The Last Airbender because I felt like everyone was more chilled. But I also felt Book Three was the season where everyone experienced growth, including Azula. Thank you Michaela, for another great episode!
