The fact that two judges had the fight even in the eighth and final round is astonishing. No wonder Azumah, before this fight, said he would go to Australia with his own judges, being his fists. Robbery was on the cards for Jeff Fenech with all the knockdowns he suffered.

I remember after the first fight I had read that Nelson had malaria and this and that and he was sick. Admittedly I thought Nelson was aging. I didn’t expect to see this performance by Nelson. I was glad he looked so good. I think Fenech thought all the excuses were bs too. Nelson did what he had to do to back up his Vegas performance. AND he did it in Fenech’s country. Ouch!
@marknorris13816 ай бұрын
Yes, Nelson like most boxers had the excuses if he didn't win, 40 years later he still complains over the Sanchez fight and later the Whittaker fight. I'm a bit over hearing them from him and his fans, and same also with Fenech crying about the first fight 'I was never the same after that decision boo hoo'. They are both as bad as each other.

@rapado109083 жыл бұрын
Azumah's adaptations: In the first fight the cross was his only defence but in this fight he is holding both hands up. Fenech likes to throw multiple shots so Azumah has to hold both hands up. That way Jeff will try to jab and aim his punches one at a time. On the ropes, Azumah now leans his left shoulder into Jeff's chest instead of facing him like he did in the first fight. This allows his right arm more swinging room. Azumah isn't dancing much in this fight because he is looking for gaps and mistakes so he can attack. He is hiding behind the guard and using range for further defence. The 8th knockdown- Staying in the corner was all part of the plan. He was hitting Jeff's body lightly then left hook to his chin. He did that for a while and Jeff dropped his guard everytime. The knockdown was inevitable!

@ericboaz9631 Жыл бұрын
@KZfaq Only did you watch the first fight? Fenech did have some good ending but he was not the winner. There are 12 rounds in boxing for a reason. If you win the last 6 rounds and your opponent took the first 6 rounds it's called a draw. You were fooled by the noise and the fact that Jeff was by far a busy fighter but Azumah had the cleaner punches

He was very open and discussed his fight with Sanchez. I’m the one who stopped the discussion since I didn’t to keep him from training. A really nice class act individual. Fenech was never the same after the “Vegas Draw”
@marknorris13816 ай бұрын
I don't buy that to be honest - Fenech was saying that a lot subsequent to this loss and a couple of other losses near the end of his career and it just sounds like another 'boxers excuse because I lost'. A lot of fighters get handed bum decisions; yes Fenech won that fight in Vegas but he had the chance to put it beyond doubt with this, home town etc, and he got floored multiple times. Nelson just adopted different tactics here to the first fight, he went out there to really hurt Fenech right from the opening bell, and he did. End of story. However in saying that watching the post fight interview here, and Nelson's comments/interviews in other media, he comes across as a total 'Richard'. You'd like to think in his old age he might have grown up a little.

For real? I lived back home in Ghana at the time and we were terrified because we knew he lost the first fight. Indeed we wanted him to retire after that fight and this victory was beyond our wildest dreams.

The Commentators really knew Azumah Nelson, in fact they had really studied him cos one of the commentators predicted that Nelson was setting up a trap for him and his right face was wide open for a hook and lo and behold it happened

Jeff Fenech thought that he could apply the same style by pushing Azumah to the corner of the stage, forgetting that the latter was a crafty boxer.

Nelson was absolutely surgical in this rematch. He was close to perfect and turned the close back several years.
