I'm 45 so I saw MJ from the start to the finish... I've also had a chance to see LBJ from the start to now. Honestly there is no comparison... from the time MJ came into the league he dominated and had that Killer instinct. I remember seeing the talent in Lebron early in his career but not that killer instinct. Jordan made his teammates better, Lebron needed better teammates. If I had to rate the top 5 players in my lifetime it would be.... 1. Michael Jordan 2. Kobe Bryant 3. Lebron James 4. Magic Johnson 5. Larry Bird

While everybody argues that all the greats are competitive, there's certainly a whole other level of competitiveness that someone like a Jordan, Magic, Bird, Hakeem or Isiah were on, compared to a David Robinson or John Stockton for instance, that just did it all in the flow. Being ultra competitive doesn't however automatically equate to winning the grandest prize. Patrick Ewing was as competitive as anybody I ever saw; he never won it all.

He’s definitely in there, but his career is still going, so I don’t like to categorize people that are still playing, but obviously he’s in the top 10, and could end up being number 3. Kobe is top 10, maybe 3 now. Hakeem is top 10. It’s hard to say this player is number 3, that player is number 6 etc. Opinions and eras vary. Top 10 is more inclusive. So many great players. Everyone is going to have a different top 10 list. I try to judge by championships, all stars, all around game, defense, and scoring lastly.

Steve Kerr gets too much credit. BJ was on that first 3-Peat Squad. Ron Harper was the starting PG on the second 3-Peat squad after BJ got traded to GS . Kerr came "off the bench" - didn't start one game (facts)!!! They have him on the pic with MJ, Pippen and Rodman like he was a notable figure - he wasn't; you barely knew the mofokka was there. He played his part but Ron Harper played tough defense and got buckets; Kerr was 1-Dimensional. Give BJ credit - he was CLUTCH, played defense on par with Mahmoud Abdul-Raoul, John Paxson and other shooters of that era. BJ should be on the pic not Kerr.

LeBron is great and to be in that conversation should is an honor and that speaks a lot about LeBrons game. But for people to say he's better than MJ is kinda absurd. When you think of the hill the Bulls had to get through to get to the top is no comparison to what James had to go through. We all knew that LeBrons teams were gonna come out as the east champions, for the most part. But the east back in the day was stacked.

What BJ explained at the end I have been trying to explain to people for years. While you can compare numbers all you want, that "Black Cat" analogy is spot on. Almost like his presence alone added weight to the opponent's shoulders. That it was more than his greatness. Imagine how amazing it felt to beat MJ?

Agreed but with that said a few years ago GOAT used to mean “greatest of ALL TIME”.....now that word gets used to freely youngsters just mean “really good” when they say goat. Like how can you even call someone “A” goat....there’s only 1 in my mind. So yea MJ IS above goat status but in all honestly people shouldn’t use that word when talking about anyone but him

More like Ronaldo.I get where you’re coming from with the “never seen anything like it” but when we talking about the aggression the facial expression that’s more of Ronaldo LeBron is more like Messi because he could do everything such as assists and score but mj was a killer only had eyes for the bucket and we both know that’s Ronaldo always shines when the spotlight is greatest and never crumbles under pressure

@@heydydbx.nehdhxhnd682 the farthest from the truth. Messi carried his country time and again for years now. Argentina's record with and without Messi is clear as day. He lead his country to a WC final with minimal help and is the sole reason why they qualified for the last WC and 3 Copa America final. CR7 has played against the weakest opposition internationally and has had much more support. But dont take my word for it. Almost every single player, coach and analyst alike has said the same about Messi

Jay Murthy I agree with your point I believe Ronaldo is better but I can see why people would think Messi is better but I thinks it’s absurd to say Ronaldo had more support Messi had:Dybala Aguero lavezzi di Maria higuan mascherano whilst Ronaldo practically had Pepe and Nani as the national teams best players and when you look into history they won’t see the runner up of a World Cup they’ll look at who won and Ronaldo has taken the euros whereas Messi won nothing

I don't get into GOAT debates much for several reasons, mostly because there's no true answer due to the different eras. Can't be done in a vacuum. Plus I did not get to see players like Kareem or Dr. J in his prime; or players like Wilt, Oscar, Jerry West, etc. So I don't know who the greatest is, but I can say without the doubt, Michael Jordan is the best player I've ever seen. He's the only player I've seen for whom it's almost impossible to find a flaw in his game. Then you add the flair and grace with which he played; and add to that the celebrity-status he enjoyed (he was probably the most popular person - not just athlete - in the world) it's unlike anything I've ever seen

That question regarding having Jordan in the team as compared to not having him, and with BJ's answer, is almost similar to asking the Raptors when having Leonard and not having him. Raptors, like the Bulls, are still competitive but having Leonard around at the last minutes in a close game is reassuring.
