Interesting, informative and critical interview. To its inclusiveness, however, private higher education institutions emerging and growing ought to take part in such interview.

Among all other things that Dr. Arega did to enhance the quality of education provided by Unity University, one that impresses me the most is the respect he has for the position he assumed. By the time he was leading 26 companies as a CEO, he has PhD (Doctor of philosophy) in management and leadership. And when he assumed the position of presidency for Unity University, he studied his second doctorate degree (EdD - Doctor of Education). This alone shows how he respects the world of education and education leadership. He toils to enhance quality in everything he does. The authorities should pay attention to every word he says because his words are plated with knowledge, experience and wisdom. Much Respect for You Doc.

Thank you Dr. Arega for teaching ABC to wrong accusers. Africans mentality to call wrong other universities (if not Harvard) should be calibrated correct. :)
Basic takeaway from the interview, there needs a neutral board of education and training directorate where every stakeholder is sure that the board is not under higher influence from any stakeholder, Now to reach such an iconic consensus the education sector must listen closely to individuals such as Dr Arega who walks his talks. keep up the good work.

The whole system from pre-licensure to licensure, initial program accreditation to renewal of both program and institutional accreditation needs an overhaul. Both private and public institutions should follow a set of Standards. The agency established to regulate and evaluate HEIs should be an independent agency with the appropriate level of human and other resources. I urge Dr. Berhanu to declare a moratorium on both public and private colleges until such. a time the current sad state of higher education quality is fully addressed.
It is only a confident leader that argues for the independence of a government body that controls his actions. ETA, the former HERQA, should publicly applaud the points mentioned in this interview. As mentioned in the interview, it would of a paramount importance for ETA to be independent and report to the House of Peoples Representatives directly. I strongly urge Dawit (the journalist) to keep up the good work he is doing in this regard.

He is very illusive on key issues. He is good at analyzing the problems and pin pointing where the problems are but he is good at shifting blames. I don't see him accepting responsibility for mishaps but he knows how to interject how good his institution is doing. There are some good points he raised; the gaps from giving license to follow-ups but I disagree with his line of argument. Directly or indirectly he is using the corrupt culture that became rampant in the country as the reason for the cause of the problem. It is this kind of lame excuse that created corruption. Yes, each individual should be responsible for his or her action. Governments create guidelines & policies but they can't 100% implement it if there are individuals willing to cheat. We as a society should reject cheating. If the society is against cheating and consider it as a shameful action, government will have no role to step and tell the institutions and students what to do and how to do it. If the institutions care about quality of education; they are the main gate keepers and they can do it too but MONEY and its evil power made them not to implement the right policy. This is a fact. I agree with him on the quality issue is not only the problem of private institutions; it starts from preschool all the way to higher education. It is complex issue that may live with us for a long time but we have to come together and condemn cheating regardless of where and by whom it happens. Action is required now.

I disagree with you if you want to fight Bureaucracy then we need to build a system that’s electronic that’s the only way as long as people meet face to face ….

@@charontube5059 System is as good as the people who operate it. The fact is nothing will replace human honesty & integrity. Systems are created by human beings and can be manipulated by human beings. I don't expect perfection in today's world but what can bring us closer to perfection is only & only human honesty & integrity.

There is no perfection in yesterday's , today's and also tomorrow's world. Our Galaxy will pass while a few work towards perfection with vain. If you are looking for honesty, you will have to wait until you met your maker. As to integrity, we all can work towards it. Because of the ever changing human conditions , systems and institutions put by men will always have flaws. strong regulatory agencies are must. The guest were not trying to shift blame or as you put it to be illusive, he was calling out the problem as is as well as the remedy. I know there is a reading and comprehension class given in Addis but from you understanding of the interview, I'll write the education ministry to start a new course - listening and comprehension. I suggest you listen to the program once or twice again. But, this time have a paper and pen in hand and take notes.
