Did you use the plastic or aluminum replacement housing? I see they make an aluminum one and i like metal better than plastic. Especially aluminum since it cools faster. Thoughts?

I viewed several videos and read some DIYs and this video has the most efficient repair. There are some others where they are disconnecting all sorts of stuff that I didn't need to do. A few comments on this video. • Take a few photos or a movie of the layout -- you'll forget some of the bracket orientations • Disconnect battery (or make sure to cover alternator cable end when you disconnect it) • Drain oil once you are sure you are going through with job. Leave plug out because you will spill coolant into oil ports and you want it to come out • No need to pre-drain coolant -- just accept that you'll lose about a gallon when you pull the cooler off. • No need to remove line on oil cooler • Throttle body is easy to take off if you need to -- but not necessary. I didn't take it off but it might have helped with visibility. • You might be able to work with the rigid plastic line in place -- mine was a pain to remove but I got it off (and broke some locking tabs) • A screwdriver can be used to gently tap the electrical connectors out of the bracket. • Add a touch of grease when you slide those connectors back in that bracket • Disconnect alternator cable • No need to disconnect anything on coolant resevoir -- just place it out of way. Clamp off hose prior to pulling oil cooler • Where needed, cover air intakes/hoses to avoid dropping something in there. • Take your time with the blind hex-head bolts and make sure not to strip them • Once you have the old parts off coolant will continue to drip slowly, probably because the clamp on the reservoir hose is not perfect -- you'll want to go ahead and get the new parts on to stop the dripping • Might as well replace the oil sender as it's cheap and easy to do. Tools you may not have • Triple-square socket set • Long hex sockets • Magnet on a handle -- helps grab some bolts you can barely touch • Mirror • Wobble extension and short hex socket (helped me with the filter housing top right bolt) • Something to catch the coolant that is going to splash everywhere. I put some painters plastic in a low, wide cardboard box and placed my drip tray inside of that. • Coolant is poisonous in small quantities and your dog may lap it up -- be careful. • Plenty of degreaser -- may as well clean up all the gunk when you have the parts out, plus the bottom of the engine so you can make sure you've fixed the problem. • Torque wrench. 11 ft-lb is what the housing and cooler get re-installed with.

I removed my filter to change it after installing a new oil pump because my car shows the low oil pressure light I saw a little spring and piece of black plastic come out with it left it out and test drove the car after all this work oil pressure light still comes on no noise on my engine oil pressure switch is also new I currently have my oil filter housing off wondering if this could be my oil pressure issue please let me know if this could cause oil pressure issues. Valves inside the housing is easy to press by hand in and 1 of it is abit stiff

Excellent video. Thanks. Going to do this soon. Creamy sludge leaked in to cooling fluid tank and drive D position not engaged at all. Revers gear works fine. A mech. suggested oil cooler should be replaced and both transmission and cooling systems should be flushed. Any advice on this please?
@CraftyWorkshopBuilds
@CraftyWorkshopBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Much respect! How did creamy sludge leaked into the cooling tank? That milky substance is usually because coolant and oil has mixed. The car not going into drive, that's a different problem. You need to figure what causing oil and coolant to mix, hopefully it's not a blown head gasket. Yea, you'll need to flush the cooling system, the oil cooler might get clogged depending on how bad the milky substance is.

I really don't like working on my B7 2.0T, it's so much work changing anything. Even just opening the oil sump is complicated. on any other car, I owned I just take out the bolts to the oil sump and pull it straight out, here I need to lose the subframe, etc etc. bruh. Nice video though, it helps me understand where the exact location of the oil pressure sensor is.

Note to others. Hard to find that long hex socket, recommend the one form the link. However, is it 5.5? Also stay away from round head “ball” hex tools. The worst. Lastly, a reminder to not over tighten that oil filter. If you think about it. All that pressure and effort to remove, what started my leaking woes to begin i believe. Then again, old car haha.

@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds It's a fantastic video, thank you. I've only recently got my A4 (2006 TDI Cabriolet) and it came with "a small oil leak - probably from the dip stick funnel which is broken" but after getting it up on a lift, the underneath is covered. It doesn't drip much on the floor, but it's coating the side you were working on. I'm doing jobs on it, and gaining confidence. Thank you again for your video - by the way I have the Audi garage repair documents on DVD if you'd like them.
