I just got your message, I would like to answer your question openly. In order to see a video where the attacker throws real punches, as you asked, I think the best way is to punch me by yourself! in this way, you will see how Ba Gua work. Plus, there are so many techniques for different attacks, for jad, we do not grab but we will use other techniques. So please find a person who is good at Ba Gua and try with him, or when you have chance, come here to try with me if you want.

This teacher is fucking good. I love his style of teaching using real life speed and demanding you do just as he does. What he teaches is pure self defense combat designed to end an encounter in seconds. This is not sport fighting or bullshitsu as most Mcdojos and KZfaq so called masters teach, this is real martial science/art and it works on the street well. This guy is truly a rare person, a genuine master of an effective martial art. Homage

I don't know much about Bagua and I wish i had the chance to study it. But I've always enjoyed the evasive circular motion of it. I know it's entirely silly but for "practice when i was in high school in dodgeball i'd dodge using similar circular movements. The momentum you build up is very interesting. I wish I had an chance to study it formally.

This is my favourite video of Baguazhang applications! The school I go to in Australia teaches a different style of Baguazhang that derives from Jiang style to intermediate students. I’m still a beginner in Internal Martial Arts learning Mián Quán, and hopefully soon in the future Chen Style Taìjí Quán. I really enjoy seeing the differences between styles. 😁

This is a drill practice session. If the arm is not caught, the practitioner may follow the arm in, or/and go for the body to grapple, whereupon any catching of limbs or body parts thereafter (and this is the critical bit of logic to note) is as plausible as UFC/MMA/BJJ stuff we are all so familiar with, but done Bagua style (takedown, without actually going to ground with the opponent).

another point to this argument is that bagua moves, when applied with force may break or cripple an opponent, joint locks, particularly those combined with throws must be practiced in a controlled way or you will hurt your friends. There are numerous training methods to train for faster reaction, for feeling the impact of an opponent's attack and working with your response.

Very awesome applications. I love the way you go right into the circle after applications or when you discharge energy in the lifting of the palms and how you stay in close and bridge to get inside.... Please be mindful of the Kuntao Silat triangle response to being circled. You can find it in my favorites on my channel. Also be mindful of Wing Chun applicaton of Wu Chin as they costantly train to keep their three fronts at the center of their opponent. Makes it hard to flow around them...

yes. i have trained for nine years under master Jian Hwa Zhou, student of chinese & world grandmaster Cai Long Yun. He has coached me in a one-on-one basis in taiji and buagazhang for much of that time. Truth be told, bagua is my most recent endevour. But i HAVE used taiji IN A STREET SITUATION and can speak from experience that it was effective against the attacks used on me(shove and wild hook)but i felt that if my opponent was a good boxer, a harder approach would have been more appropriate.

I practise Bagua and caught an partner's fast jab with correct positioning of my centre, and once I wrapped myself around his arm, I'd have shattered his wrist and elbow, then torn his rotator cuff clean off the joint. You CAN catch a jab, especially if the boxer is predictable. However against a real good boxer who won't leave me alon, I'm gonna SMASH his flippin' ankles and knees> CRIPPLED for life! I like Bagua Zhang myself...

Wow, all this teacher's videos have been inspiring. I've only studied the Baguazhang of the Fu Zhensong lineage from the grandson (Sheng Long "Victor" Fu), but this is the closest I've come across to seeing how the applications were taught by anyone else other than him...and Victor was much older. So to see the mix of softness and explosiveness expressed here is very encouraging and motivating for my own practice. Thank you very much for your videos. They are very full of detail to those who have the interest and/or experience to appreciate them.

@tseidl
@tseidl 16 жыл бұрын
... But all out sparring doesn't work as well as in striking-only styles - one of you would have a broken ankle or knee, a dislocated shoulder etc. That is why internal stylists are a little tired of being told their techniques "don't work" by people who mis-understand them. Yes these are single defenses against single attacks, but we train to be able to effectively combine them and adapt fluidly to attacks.
@bcfsl
@bcfsl 16 жыл бұрын
Actually, I have found boxers can be very predictable. However, they don't understand, nor practise, leg dislocations. The Bagua we train is very "medical" or "orthopedic" - we often suffer mild dislocations ourselves. Good martial artists don't scare me, since they are good people with whom I'd have no cause to have a fight. Wannabe's are the most dangerous, and for them we reserve the full applications - human joints are quite fragile...

Do accept my apologies then - but let's get on with the topic at hand. 1, almost every other art presumes itself to have quick hands, so stating that Bagua isn't effective against fast-hitting arts is in effect stating that it isn't effective as an art. 2, Bagua is by nature its very fast moving, using slaps and piercing hand changes, rotating hands: all of which also work in combination. Just because you have not seen it in action this way does not mean that it's not the way it is.

Also, like SuperJavie said, Ba gua is one of just a handful of Kung Fu styles that are effective in real combat. The techniques are not so simple so it takes a very long time of repeating them in practice so one can actually execute them properly in real combat. That is something most hooligans can't understand and so they often dismiss these arts out of pure ignorance.

A master is also responsible for the safety of his students, especially the younger ones. That's why they're also told to limit their speed. And you don't expect him to post a video of his most advanced personal sparring lessons for free on the net do you? To learn his ultimate techniques you'll have to actually study under his tutelage. I certainly wish I could.

Sorry Danpt2000 - the age of reason and intelligent critique is long over. Your words are true, but it hardly matters any more. Speaking truthfully is the most despised thing in our world. What's really sad is there are undreds of videos like this, with the same points made hundreds of times - but none of these people ever dare to put out a video with real, realisitc opponents, to simply settle the matter once for all. They're too humble to do that, but not too humble to claim to be 4real.

Where bagua videos show an app here or there, rarely do you see people PRACTICE apps to this many moves from forms. Also, the dude does xing yi and his fajin has that kind of flavor, so i guess he adds a personal touch to the bagua.
