Baaba Maal & Mansour Seck - Djam Leelii: The Adventurers
Djam Leelii is the first widely distributed album of Senegalese musician Baaba Maal and guitarist Mansour Seck. Several of the tracks have been released on Baaba Maal's later releases. It was originally recorded in 1984 and released in 1989.
The album was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

I love west African culture. The peace and happiness I saw there. A Gambian saved my life from drowning. I love u Mustafa The Yassa. The cotton sarongs that the big mammas wear sawaying down the street. The joy I found and carry on everyday living in Laos. I love Senegal. This is the most beautiful piece of art to come out of Africa since Fela Kuti in his prime during the mid 70s. Haunting, mesmeric, tranquilising , soothing aaaaaaahhhhhhh.

It's great to see so many views for this album. I consider this to be one of the most beautiful recordings ever made. There is no substitute. These men invite you into their spiritual hearts. Come sit and listen for a while. You are welcome any time. Real music never dies. This music will live on forever. It will travel through space for eternity. And we are lucky to be alive to hear it.

I fully agree. I discovered Baba Maal 30 years ago during a trip in Senegal and never stopped listening to him. I especially love Macina Toro from this album. It's just a summit of lyrism and poetry.

This is definitely one of my favourite Albums of all time. When I first heard it in 1997 having recently returned to South Africa from Europe I had to sit down in the record shop because I was over come with the humbling emotion evoked by these sounds and words that sadly I don't understand. Along the way - sadly - my CD has disappeared and finding this online has been a wonderful gift! Thank You.
