Muztarib Rakhta Hai Mera Dil-e-Betab Mujhe
Ayn-e-Hasti Hai Tarap Soorat-e-Seemab Mujhe
My heart, forever restless, never still,
Inside me, a core like liquid mercury's thrill.
Mouj Hai Naam Mera, Behar Hai Payab Mujhe
Ho Na Zanjeer Kabhi Halqa-e-Gardab Mujhe
They call me wave, with the ocean as my goal,
No whirling eddy's chain can ever hold my soul.
Aab Mein Misl-e-Hawa Jata Hai Tousan Mera
Khar-e-Mahi Se Na Atka Kabhi Daman Mera
My steed, a breeze, glides gently on the water,
My garment's hem, untouched by fishy thorn's cruel slaughter.
Main Uchalti Hun Kabhi Jazb-e-Mah-e-Kamil Se
Josh Mein Sar Ko Patakti Hun Kabhi Sahil Se
Under the full moon, I leap with fervent delight,
Other times, aflame, crashing into shore with passion's might.
Hun Woh Rahru Ke Mohabbat Hai Mujhe Manzil Se
Kyun Tarapti Hun, Ye Puche Koi Mere Dil Se
A pilgrim, I adore the journey's every stage,
Restless, my heart seeks freedom from the river's cage.
Zehmat-e-Tangi-e-Darya Se Garezan Hun Main
Wusaat-e-Behr Ki Furqat Mein Preshan Hun Main
Amidst the river's narrow strife, I feel confined and tight,
Yearning for the boundless sea, my soul is in a plight.
مضطرب رکھتا ہے میرا دلِ بے تاب مجھے
عینِ ہستی ہے تڑپ صورتِ سیماب مجھے
موج ہے نام مرا، بحر ہے پایاب مجھے
ہو نہ زنجیر کبھی حلقۂ گِرداب مجھے
آب میں مثلِ ہوا جاتا ہے توسَن میرا
خارِ ماہی سے نہ اٹکا کبھی دامن میرا
میں اچھلتی ہوں کبھی جذبِ مہِ کامل سے
جوش میں سر کو پٹکتی ہوں کبھی ساحل سے
ہوں وہ رہرو کہ محبت ہے مجھے منزل سے
کیوں تڑپتی ہوں، یہ پُوچھے کوئی میرے دل سے
زحمتِ تنگیِ دریا سے گریزاں ہوں میں
وسعتِ بحر کی فُرقت میں پریشاں ہوں مَیں
