Basically MC told the engineers to stop the background vocals since they were a huge problem the entire song and that she’s about to sing it live with no backgrounds.(not shady- it shows that she’s a professional)

She never shades anyone without them coming for her first -Nicki tried to make her life impossible on AG -Eminem claimed she slept with him -JLO stole her songs -Demi started a beef on twitter for no reason -Madonna shaded her many times -Celine Dion act was culturally out of order. (From her perspective) -Ariana fans were bashing Mariah and thats why she said she dont know her but wish her all the best and longevity Mariah never comes for anyone without a reason For example recently Darlene love shaded her for no reason on facebook. But watch people go crazy and blame her if she ever decides to shade her back.

Jennifer - Mariahs ex husband made JLo the next Mariah and stole her songs. Jennifer also has a history of stealing other peoples songs. Mariah denies the existence of JLo until now. 5.) Demi - Demi got mad at a fan meme abt "Mariah vs Ariana" and dissed Mariah on Instagram. Mariah ignored her and said that on WWHL that dissing people online is kind of childish and she should face her. 6.) Backup Singers - Mariah is close with her backup singers, she was just correcting them and on the 2008 GMA show, she was annoyed at the technical problem where a playback was played so she made an adlib.

Mariah's snarky remarks on Ariana were not contextless or out of the blue. The media calle Ariana the NEW Mariah and many publications acted as if she had REPLACED Mariah. Replacing a person is never a good look nor does it the replaced one feel validated. Mariah at the time had already been a legend. Imagine someone saying XY replaced Aretha or imagine someone said that about you in a way so that it can be interpreted as if your life and accomplishments and impact never existed or wouldn't mean anything anymore. Additionally, Ariana took a lot of visual elements from Mariah (especially from her 1997-1999 eras), including dresses, images, looks and musical productions + vocal arrangements. So, put yourself in these shoes... you have been replaced, your work has been cancelled, your life was interpreted as not having any value... and if you hear that every 2 seconds for like 2-3 years... imagine how hollow and depressing that feeling must be. Her remark about longevity... was not aimed at Ariana herself, it was first and foremost aimed at all the music publications who called Ariana the NEW Mariah. Mariah and Ariana have since worked together and everything is fine now. Mariah & Madonna have made up too. The three biggest foes remain: Jennifer Loopez, Nicki and Eminem with a close 4th being Miss Aguilera.
