She actually didn’t do it wrong. It’s actually a Afro-Colombian gesture that they do in Festivals in Barranquilla where she’s from but Arabs mistook it for the zaghrouta.

That sound has two denotations. One denotation is Arabic and the other is Afro. It has been said that this sound was made by African slaves in Colombia to mock their masters. Shakira was born in a territory of Colombia (State of Atlántico) that has been having a significant presence of African descendants and the emission of that sound has been a custom in the carnival of Barranquilla (Barranquilla is the capital of the state of Atlantico). It is not known with conviction if she made that sound for the Arab culture, the Afro-Colombian culture or for both cultures. Shakira's presentation had other elements of Afro-Colombian culture as well.

Right after the zaghareet (that movement with her tongue), she dances the “mapalé”, an Afro-Colombian dance brought over to the Americas by slaved Africans and it would be performed mostly at night, after a hard day of work. It’s more commonly seen in the Caribbean coast of Colombia, where Shakira is from.

Lo que hizo con la lengua es algo cultural, es algo de Colombia, cuidado con lo que dicen, no es amenza solo hay que respetar un poco, más si es algo que desconocemos, sobre todo porque le estarian faltando el respeto a más de una cultura. No soy de Colombia asi que segun lo que recuerdo que mencionaron es de un festival pero se confunde mucho con el de medio oriente, tiene un nombre, seria normal ya que entre la mezcla de culturas esta la libanesa, pero aun asi siento que estos chicos no fueron serios, acada rato faltaron el respeto, uno entiende el choque pero hay un punto donde ya no es divertido, si no incomodo y mira que no soy Colombiana.

Shakira is a multicultural woman who was born in the Colombian's Caribbean, speaks fluently 6 languages and it's well known around the world. She's a multifaceted songwriter, singer, musician, dancer and a big fat Philanthropist. She started a Foundation in 1997 called "Pies Descalzos" that support Education for Underprivileged Children in Barranquilla Colombia, her hometown. The calling She did with her voice and tongue is a common practice in the middle east culture, it's used in weddings, parties and dances as a sign of joy and celebration. She has a Lebanese heritage from her Father. So any misunderstanding comes from a place of ignorance of that particular Culture. That kind of mistake could happen to anyone, no worries. Anybody who knows Shakira really well, would have known She it's very polite, extremely respectful all the time, in her private and public life. 😊 Other than that you're hilarious and it's really a pleasure watching your reactions to the videos🎉
