Babette's Feast Trailer - Directed by Gabriel Axel and starring StÉphane Audran, Bodil Kjer, Birgitte Federspiel, Jarl Kulle, Jean-Philippe Lafont. In 19th century Denmark, two adult sisters live in an isolated village with their father, who is the honored pastor of a small Protestant church that is almost a sect unto itself. Although they each are presented with a real opportunity to leave the village, the sisters choose to stay with their father, to serve to him and their church.

The most beautiful film EVER. It ia sbaot communal love, redemption and the folies of asceticism and the last scene will have you in bits.

I discovered this film being played late at night on TV some years back, started watching just a few minutes in. Had no idea what it was about, but I was intrigued. No way I could have realized what a tidal wave of emotion was coming for me. The ending is sublime--in one way it's absolutely surprising, and in another way it seems inevitable in retrospect--that combination is to me the mark of the rare perfect ending.

@@user-ly9wr8wj5s - you've really gone out of your way to be rude and aggressive. Try asking in a civil tone. But, I will answer your curtness with civility. It shows with depth and emotion how an isolated, fractured, religious community that denies pleasure (e.g., of nice food) becomes healed through the skill and generosity of an outsider masterchef. The herione, Babette, practically brings the community to life again with a carefully orchestrated meal. I guess it's not a Stepen Seagal action-adventure movie.

Interesting how film trailers have changed over the decades. Today, this kind of ad would be wholly unacceptable. It just throws stills and critic review blurbs at you for a minute and a half. But, back then, it would've done the job well enough because it was rare to see publicity stills for a movie outside of a newspaper or theater lobby.
