It’s so calming and peaceful watching/listening to the night sounds of this unique family of course the minute Braveheart decides to sleep devoted Kumbura is right there with her always the protector to her Miesekind they’re so sweet together. I could watch this video a million times and still not get tired of it. It answers all queries as to how our dear Meisiekind is doing at the end of her day! She knows full well that Kumbura, Timisa and the rest are all a trunk's length away from her to protect her and give her the confidence that she is well looked after. I am so happy for her and for the HERD and for all of you. Sweet and beautiful Timi doesn't like to put a lot of food in her mouth at one time. She likes to munch and crunch on a single branch. Khanyisa was out like a light. No cat nap, that; it was deep slumber. Imagine the safety and security she feels to have done that - outside, no less. Her every physical, psychological and emotional need has and is being met, resulting in a confident, well-adjusted little ellie with tons of cheek and personality.

We are very privileged to be able to spend the night together with the Ellies thanks to the homestead's cam I was wondering how long they are sleeping at night in general ? Because here apart from little miss Sunshine who is lying down and briefly Limpopo who sleeps standing, we do not see the other ones sleeping It seems that they spend their night feeding on fresh greenery that has been arranged by the Carers It is so heartwarming that Khanyisa has adjusted so well in the Homestead and dedicated Kumbura watches over her while she is sound asleep on the floor Little Timisa comes also to check but is more interested in stealing a little bit from Mentor Gentleman Fishan's supply with her friend Pisa 😂 Very peaceful and quiet video Impressive gentle giants only illuminated by the little dancing fireflies

I am so happy that Khaynisa 🐘 feels so loved and confident that now she is sleeping lying down. Fishan 🐘 is like an eating machine 🤣. I am so happy that his leg has mended well. I was so happy to see Fishan. He’s still a very handsome guy. Khanyisa has adopted the homestead very easily. It amazes me, how each elephant knows which side they need to be on. I guess, years of development.

Timisa is getting so big that I have a hard time picking her out of the herd sometimes. I do find her, but it takes a little longer. Fishan is always a joy to watch because he is so majestic. Khanyisa still looks so small beside the adults. The elephants can certainly wipe the food the Carers leave for them in no time.

This video of the elephants resting at night is so peaceful to watch. Khanyisa is so relaxed and at ease that she can rest lying down. Kumbura is so attentive to Khanyisa. How fascinating to see Limpopo sleeping standing up. Her body is so silent and motionless.

Most beautiful social and happy Herd best friends by eachother so special they are very smart and learn Khanyisa everything a big great loving Herd.

Loving the Ellie cams! It really nice to see Khanyisa has adapted so well to the homestead! I thought for sure she might have a few tantrums over leaving behind her stable of friends and comforts of Adine or one of the Carers being close by.

Thank you for sharing this bit of their lives at night. It is relaxing to watch and I really needed it today to help with my migraine. It's always interesting to get this fly-on-the-wall glimpse of their downtime when there aren't a lot of humans. They are just peacefully being a family, enjoying food, napping, and enjoying their safe homestead in the dark. And they eat every bit of their bana grass! It would be interesting to see them enjoying their water and sand mounds. Are the other bulls more active through the night? It's easy to imagine Mambo having the energy for mischievous moments 24/7 without care of day or night. Fishan and Tokwe are still my favorites but Sebakwe is becoming a favorite the more I see him. All the elephants are special and I feel lucky that HERD has the ability to share this important mission with people all over the world. It's magical to experience the life of an elephant that isn't just a fictional story. They are living beings so real with their individual characteristics and they allow us to learn how wonderfully these animals are a part of the earth. Their gentleness should be allowed to thrive.

This was fascinating watching to watch. Seeing their trunks become limp while they sleep and how they gradually drifted out to the gardens or sand mounds.

Thank you for this evening view of life in the herd. Our little Pink Princess has taken to her junior life very well with her foster family. I anticipate that this herd will fully rehabilitate to a in the wild lifestyle. Gently gently is a wonderful pace as they become accomplished at living the wild life. Long term, do you have estimated timeliness as the herd matures? It is absolutely fascinating seeing the fostering of young elephants and their ongoing creature education, we can see how much more is taught within the herd itself. What you have given these elephants is nothing short of remarkable. I assume (wonder?) if there is some controversy about what some people might consider being too much domestication, but most, if not all, of these elephants probably would not have survived being in the wild, which I can barely stand to think about. Unless a herd had accepted them, which, from what I have gathered, doesn't necessarily happen (I'm thinking about Mambo and his attempt to join the wild elephants). When you know the individual elephants, and their personalities and their histories, and see how they have come together as a herd, and have accepted new members into the herd, it's so moving to think about the difference you all have made in their lives. I hope researchers look at, or will look at what you have accomplished. It seems like there is so much to learn here about the elephants and about their relationships with humans. ❤️❤️❤️

Aaah Princess Khanyisa is still a baby. Just loves her lie down. So happy that she has accepted and settled in the homestead. I must say that I was concerned for her in the beginning. It was a huge adjustment for baby Khanyisa but glad she she took to the homestead like a pro and still loves her milk for breakfast with her sweet potato! Khanyisa, tell me your secret diet plan? Ha, ha, ha, ha... It just amazes me how the Allomothers protect baby Khanyisa. The Herd are stunning!

So peaceful. I had many thoughts while watching the elephants in the dark. It’s very, very quiet. Sometimes we can’t fall to sleep, but we can always get some shut-eye. What is that light on the horizon, I wonder? Fishan’s feet are HUGE. Khanyisa trusts that no one will step on her. Darkness is good for us, so I’m glad the lights are turned off. Elephants may not lie down, but they do rest a foot from time to time. I 💕watching these elephants. Thank you.

Kumbura is such a beautiful elephant and the best allomother of them all. She has personally accepted responsibility for Khanyisa and you can tell it. 24:7 it appears she has an idea of exactly where Khanyisa is and at any moment can be there to sheild the younger calf! I could have watched this video all day and night. No words needed. Thank you!

Watching Limpopo sleep standing up is amazing - she’s frozen like a statue Can the elephants see well in the dark? Or do they rely on other senses at nighttime Also do you recycle the dung in the homestead as fertiliser?
