For anyone interested, I HIGHLY suggest leaving out the essential oils for the baby wash!! Essential oils should never go near your babies sensitive areas, any essential oil has a high risk of causing irritation. Just something to keep in mind. Its just not necessary and probably best to leave it out in my opinion

Yeah a lot of people assume essential oils are good for everything because they're "natural" when a lot of the times they're bad for whatever purpose. Natural =/= healthy

i’m thinking the same because i tried putting on an essential oil/oil blend & my skin was red & irritated. i do have fairly sensitive skin so it would probably bother a baby too especially on any of their sensitive areas.

Actually one drop of lavender and one drop of tea tree in her solution would be fine for most babies. Just like the chemical concoctions you can find in the big stores, some babies are going to be sensitive, but most would find relief and cleansing from her solution.

When you think about the awful synthetic chemicals in most washes lotions and what not, that is levels scarier than essential oils! If you use high quality pure essential oils it is basically the healthiest thing you could use!

I’m Mexican and I think most Latin parents shower their baby along with them. Bathtubs are rare in someone’s home.

I’m pretty sure using essential oils, or any fragrances, (lavender, and tea tree oil) on a baby girls peri area, or any female really, can cause a lot of irritation, infection, and ph balance issues. So I would advise to talk to your babies dr to make sure using oils or fragrance in your wipe solution is okay.

I know this video is super old. I've followed Megan for a few years now, however I'm catching up because I'm having another baby and need a refresher... Diluted essential oils, especially those diluted with any type of oil (coconut oil for example) are super safe. One drop is definitely not going to hurt. Tea tree actually has super antibacterial properties, has been shown to kill off MRSA in lab studies, as well as lavender that helps to sooth skin. After my last child I made a peri spray with witch hazel, tea tree, lavender and coconut oil and it was like heaven!

I was thinking the same. I was also wondering if maybe, due to the humidity and climate, the diaper rash isn't really a yeast infection. Sometimes with little girls it can be hard to tell the difference.

Tea trea oil has been clinically researched and found to be safe for skin (even baby skin) when highly diluted, which is the case here (you can find studies on PubMed) Nothing wrong with this formulation at all! I would love to see her using coconut oil as a rash balm. It works miracles!

Essential oils are safe for baby’s. My midwife told me to stop using wipes, and use cooled water from the kettle, and a drop of tea tree oil because she kept getting nappy rash.

Also, I make a diaper cream with JUST coconut oil, bentonite clay and a sprinkle of baking soda to balance ph and give instant relief! It works great for us. I read a study which showed that bentonite clay cleared up rashes 7x faster than calendula (which is what I was using previous). Crazy! ❤ Many blessings to you and your sweet family!

I would be careful with the baking soda, just because people (myself included) have a really bad reaction to baking soda and have gotten really bad rashes until I realized that’s what it was. :)

Baking soda is bad for the skin barrier, as skin needs a slightly acidic environment

for the diaper rash I use corn starch. I put it it the middle of a wash cloth or little rag. tie the ends together to make a little puff. I use it everytime I change my daughter and it has worked so well for us.

I'm a momma of 8. Yes I did shower with my babies and coslept with my babies, I use coconut oil with beeswax for body moisturizer and diaper ointment. Maybe let your little one go around without a diaper to help with her rash. Love the muslin washclothes we use them as well. I bought greenmoutain diapers with my first and still had some left for number 8. 18 years of diapering with the same ones definitely a quality made product. I was a die-hard sling user till number 8 then I started using the ergo 360 same color as yours. I still put my 2 year old in the ergo.thanks for sharing

For diaper rashes, black tea is the best. My baby had a terrible diaper rash that no creams or lotions could get rid of for a solid 2 weeks. A friend who had experience with premature babies recommended I just boil up some black tea, and then keep the tea bag in a bowl with a little bit of the tea. After cleaning and drying the baby's bum, just dab the rash with the used tea bag, let it air dry for a bout a minute, and then just put on the new diaper. The rash was gone within 2 days. Now we use it whenever a rash first starts breaking out and we've never had issues with diaper rashes again.

Loved this 💖 We have two babes, a 6yr old & a 17 month old and we don’t have a lot for them. We find that living simply and minimally and enjoying a lot of time with them out in nature makes us all happy rather than accumulating a bunch of stuff. We use reusables for everything too. Plus I still shower with both my kids! Saves water & time 🙌

This resonates with me soo much! We got “lucky”, our first baby came a little early and we had nothing purchased or prepared for her arrival. I had my long lists of “essentials” to buy collected by watching videos but I learned that she needed me (and some diapers and suits). This allowed us to get things as we saw the need, little by little. Having Amazon Prime was helpful. When new moms ask me now anxiously about what are the essentials to buy I try to get the same message through. Go slow, you’ll see what you’ll need as you go along, all babies are different and you cannot predict what will you need in advance

My kids are adults now but I am curious to see if an intuition I have relates to anyone else- with the exception of being in a car seat when traveling, my babies were always carried until they were crawling and walking, and all my kids sat up at 5 months and to my great surprise my sons each walked at 9 months and my daughter walked at 10 months. I have always wondered if because they were always carried (in arms, front pack and back pack-by their papa or grandpapa or myself) perhaps their middle ear/brain/balance developed quickly because of always moving with us, for example, in a front or back pack, when you bend over to pick something up, the baby goes upside down for a moment. Has anyone else experienced this correlation ? Thank you Moon & Rock for your thoughtful, gentle, loving, beautiful sharing of your lives.

I used washable diapers for both my girls and instead of diaper creams, I lined the waterproof shell with a prefold cotton cloth (instead of the microfiber-ish ones that came with it). I used the provided inserts inside the shell and the cotton cloth as a barrier against her skin. Never had rash since I started doing that! I try to use as few products as possible, especially on their bottoms. The one baby item I used the most for both is the hip baby wrap (the woven wrap, not sling). It puts all the weight on my hips (not shoulders). And you can carry them in the front or on your back. Best invention ever. I think I could have survived with just that wrap. A friend of mine used the no-diaper way as an eco-friendly version: She knew exactly which signs her baby gave to show that it needed to pee or poo and then she just held it over a bucket. By 11 months it was potty trained and teaching it the baby sign language it could tell her whenever it needed to. When they were outside and she wasn't able to hold it over a bucket even though it was giving her signs, it was wearing a diaper. By today she said she would now be brave enough to just find a way to hold her baby over a meadow or something similar and just use poop bags as they are used for dogs too :)

Hi, just for anyone interested - > potato starch works really well for diaper rashes and any kind of skin irritation. It makes a nice, soft, dry and breathable barrier and it absorbs moisture. Apply it on the rash area after every diaper change but make sure that the skin is dry. You can also add a little bit to the bath water and that will soothe the skin as well. Gently drying the rash area with a hair dryer set on low heat, from a distance, works really well too and my baby seemed to really like the flow of warm air on his skin :)

Air drying is the BEST thing for a diaper rash!!!! Keep baby contained to a certain area all day with a couple towels under them. It's gross. It's messy. But it WORKS! :)

This is such a great video, there are so not enough minimal moms or eco moms. I’m not zero waste but I try to be as low waste as I can be, but my husband and I are very minimal. This list was so perfect! And please ignore the people commenting unneeded opinions. I don’t agree with every single word mentioned but I still gained immense value from this video. I’m the UK we have cloth nappy libraries. So I’m actually buying no newborn nappies at all. Il just hire and return them. May be worth looking into entrepreneurs!

We are in a dry climate, and my kids rarely got rashes... *when they did, I used my Mom's and G'mas go-to: Air dry bottom, 20-30 min, and make a paste of cornstarch and (vaseline), but I used shea butter instead and coated their dry little bottom or spots that were irritated. Works like a charm! And, totally cloth diaper safe!Hth :)

I know this was posted 2 years ago but I just wanted to say I have a nine month old daughter, and I cloth diaper as well. I only just found your channel but I use Earth Mama Organics Diaper Balm for rashes and it clears them up within four hours, it’s amazing. I also am so with you on the bathing situation, I always bathe with her, I used her baby mesh basket once and did not like it. Haven’t used it since.

I still shower with my daughter or we share water (Sometimes people need space) although I always found that a washing basket for a calming evening splash, really helps calm babies for sleep. So sometimes we would bath her for that reason.

Thank you, love this! Some really useful suggestions, will be looking at reusable wipes and I love the idea of one towel and one spoon and that she eats what you eat! I made the mistake of giving my eldest two very bland puréed food when they were little and have struggled for years to get them to eat anything with flavour! Pregnant now with my third, so excited to keep it simple this time round. Bless x

I totally agree about using less soap on babies as well as our own bodies. We use essential oils too to add to the bath/shower. Loved your video! Such good info. The silicone breast shells like a haaka are awesome for catching the excess breast milk!

I am soooooo happy to see you are using ergobaby and NOT babybjörn!! In scandinavia, it is known everywhere and by basically every parent that babybjörn is a biiiig no-no. The baby's legs and hips in particular is under a lot of pressure because of the position. So it is SO nice to see you are using the ergobaby carrier since the position og Bridgets legs and hips are so much healthier ❤️🙏🏼

BabyBjorn is known for their carrier that hangs the baby by their crotch. That's great news that they are making better carriers. However, they are firmly established by a whole generation as the brand that sells the "bad" kind of carrier. Which is fantastic in my book, as it took years to get other carriers to become mainstream!

I shower with my babies! 😊 And rarely ever use soap on our kiddos before 1 year. But with 2 boys sometimes a little castile soap on their bottom is great. I would wash their feet and neck chub nearly daily with a baby wipe with castile soap in the water (same thing I wiped their bums with) it's easy to do when you're already cloth diapering.

have you ever heard of the reusable wool pads for leaking? I leaked a lot and had to use the night-time disposable kind for the days. I also had the ones you used, but the wool ones held SO MUCH more and I just had the standard thickness (there's a super thickness too). I had a special wool wash for them, but always just rinsed them in a bowl in the sink and the wash and they washed up great, worked great, and stayed more dry on my skin then the cotton reusable kind

If she keeps getting diaper rash it can be yeast related. Have you ever stripped / bleached her diapers? We cloth diaper. I have for over 8 years, as a nanny & a mama. Yeast rash does happen. Her diapers would need to stripped until the rash goes away.

I live in a country where we bathe our babies in a small bath pan with small amounts of water. You’re absolutely right, filling up a whole bath tub for a little baby is very wasteful.

Mom of six here. It’s not normal for a baby to constantly have a diaper rash, especially since she’s cloth diapered. You can try letting her go diaper-less at home, that should help, but I would also re-examine your wipe solution and your diaper wash routine. Something’s not right. Keep in mind that most “natural” laundry soaps don’t clean well enough to use on diapers. You may have to strip the diapers and try using a different soap.

Our first baby is “due” tomorrow and we are sooo excited. I loved this guide so much- already have my cloth diapers and wipes, dr bronners baby soap, and my carriers. I think clothes are the trickiest thing for us to keep minimal because we live near family and they keep buying us clothes. 😂

I have cloth diapered 2 children from birth to potty training and currently on my 3rd baby 6 months in. I really like the honest company diaper rash cream. When using diaper rash cream use a liner either a bamboo compostable or washable fleece liners. Also with rash make sure it’s not yeast rash. Really thrives in warm moist environments. If it is yeast you will have to get special medicine from a doctor and you will have to bleach your cloth stash to prevent the further cycle of yeast rash.

We showered with our baby! It was just so much easier and she loved it! And she got very used to having water on her face and we’ve never had any trouble washing her hair or her being afraid of water, she loves swimming! (She’s almost three now).

Best help for diaper rash is to sit them in a lukewarm bath (about an inch) and baking soda. The baking soda neutralizes the acid of the rash. Awesome

We've always showered with our son, too! Filling his tub felt like a waste and he wanted to sit up not lay back the way they're designed, so showering was way easier. It was great bonding, too.

How do you shower with your baby, do you hold them? If so, how do you wash yourself and them without dropping them, if not, do they lay in something? I would be scared of them swallowing water or dropping them.

@@4Distractiononly before he could sit up my husband and I usually helped each other out and would hand him into the other person at the end of their shower. We didn't use soap often because we didn't find it necessary, so mostly just a good rinsing off. He would just lay against our chests. I did usually have my hand around his ankle as I held him hoping to catch him if he ever slipped but luckily it was never a problem. After he could sit I put a small tote in the tub that he sat and played in while I showered. Now he's 3 and still plays while I shower before I scrub him down.

My daughter hated baths for the first year of her life, so we only showered with her. Now that she is older, she does love baths but we give them to her more so for relaxation!

Yes to showering with the babies! Have 3 and they hated baths until close to a year so in the shower with us was perfect. ☺

love all items except the cosleeping pad as our baby simply slept with me as a part of me somehow it worked perfectly, and now at almost four she can wake me up with a kick in the gut if she's fallen asleep with us, but her bed now is next to ours. Kaia never allowed washing her hair and only now that she like playing with makeup she washes her hair regularly, love the baby oils and natural parenting overall. you're such a sweetheart, I wish there'd be moms like you where I live. Miami is all cesareans and ''fluff'' indeed, formula fed vexed up sick kids & moms that speak at the speed of a train yet say nothing valuable. you're of European vibe. Latvian mama subscribes :)

Showering with a baby honestly never occured to me. It's like so ingrained that baby needs a baby bath it just never registered. This sounds so simple.

Only thing I've ever found to help my daughters diaper rashes is just straight coconut oil. Put it on like a rash cream and by the next diaper change, her rash is almost completely cleared up
