This video is beautiful in so many ways; the innate kindness of Swoop’s adopted Dad, the obvious love and devotion between a man and a bird, the ability of animals to adapt to and love other animals commonly known to be their prey, and the deep love of a son for his father, and the immense strength and sheer determination of a selfless firefighter to save lives…even non-human ones! You made my year!💞

So beautifully expressed, well done. You encapsulated everything that I was thinking so eloquently. Clearly, he’s just a really decent dude. I love that he found a supportive bond with an animal during a particularly traumatic period in his life & also the strong interspecie friendship that has now developed between his cat & a magpie of all things. All that I would like to add is, that I’m so very sorry for his loss & hope that he’s doing ok. Edit: I forgot to mention that I really love the name he chose for “his” magpie. “Swoop” is an excellent name - it suits him perfectly!

To anyone wondering what has happened since…. Swoop did eventually leave to find his own family. And Matt has since rescued a duck and her babies who wandered into his home (they now live on a lovely farm), and another magpie Zoe that had two broken wings (who also recently moved out to a farm). He now has a dog Nala and has written a book about Swoop and Mowgli (the cat) which I have and cherish! Who knows what bird will wander into his life next 😊

@tela2171, l also love kittens but what I love the most is their interactions (like dogs) with many other species. There is a video of a kitten who was adopted by 3 gorgeous German shepherds, he acts like a doggie, he sleeps, goes on walks, swims, takes pictures, tries barking, etc. with them. You'll love watching them should you happen upon the video. There is also one in which one kitten sleeps under a chicken's wing, it's lovely. 😊

I’m so sorry for your loss. Fathers are special. Mine was to me. Do know they’re not really gone, they’re just in a different form. Some people believe birds carry the souls of our loved ones. My Dad is a red tail hawk. He flies past my window at least once a week. I love Magpies! A very unique bird. We don’t have them here 🇺🇸 wish we did. Thank you for the share, take care of Swoop, he’ll take care of you. ♥️

My daughter had a similar affair, having rescued a wounded adult Magpie. Once he was good he hung around her house for over a month. Later, now, he shows up every few days to hang with her.

When this fella needed an angel to help him with his sadness about his dad,Swoop came into his life❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Magpies are very intelligent, as witnessed in this beautiful clip. The friendship that this fella has with Swoop is both precious and wonderful ❤❤❤❤❤. To then see Mogli and Swoop together is just simply adorable. To then see all three of them hanging out together is pure joy and love. ❤❤❤❤. It is sad to know about the gentleman's dad with cancer .

Our maggie growing up "Hooroo" was injured by other magpies. He had to have a shoulder pin put in & couldn't fly much so had to stay with us (we had a lot of native wildlife, growing up in the bush, we'd rehabilitate & release) but he was friends with all the animals: cats, dogs, rabbit & even my horse 🤣 Swoop curled up with the cat was reminding me of Hooroo sunbaking with various cats & dogs (+ his buddy the jack rabbit) Too cute!

Oh, you made me cry and smile at the same time! Swoop came into your life at just the right moment. I believe that having him so dependent on you helped give you the strength to emotionally deal with your father's illness and death. We just lost one of my nephews last week, and his wife is thoroughly distraught. There was no warning, and chance to prepare for what came. Anyway, take care of Swoop. He loves you so much. I hope he finds a girlfriend, and brings her and, hopefully, little Swoopsters, home to meet you one day!
