Hi Everyone! Sorry for the delay in getting this episode up. The Christmas video and the fact I got sick delayed its completion. You may hear my voice is a bit off. I was hoping my voice over would be normal by now 😅 Hope you enjoy this episode! We're almost half way through the series. Still 4 episodes on the way! Also the pyjamas were a gift. I would say not to feel guilty. It was either givin Ru a chance in the house with you or leave it outside its chances of survival were none. Therefore you gave Ru a chance of living and whatever the outcome the important thing is that it has more chance than ever to survive. If it decide to stay close to you if he has any problems adapting to the wild life or maybe full integration difficult to say. Many history here on KZfaq that some squirels were not integrating well others fully returned to the wild but they always returned to visit their saviors.

You do understand what happens after he grows up healthy and gets released, right? You look at the little bits of damage around the house and fondly remember how each one got there, how happy Roo was, how much you enjoyed watching him learn. You feel the squirrel-shaped hole in your life. Then you look at the big, empty release enclosure, the supplies you still have, the knowledge you've accumulated... And you join a rehabber network, pick up an orphan or three at each of two breeding seasons a year, and for the rest of your life there's around four squirrels a year in your life. It's happened to friends. It almost happened to me. And you've got the vibe: I'm betting it will happen to you.

Lovely story and very informative. I'm from Canada and we have an abundance of squirrels. Many different types of squirrels. I live in Ontario. In some places, it's against the law, to feed squirrels and other animals. There's a reason, for this law and I know you understand, why If an animal is injured or is a baby, that's different. We have vets and animal rehabilitation centers. Sometimes, they have too many animals to care for, so people end up caring for them. Watching your video, gives me some clues, on how to look after a squirrel, if I need to. Thank you for this video. I also learned from other, similar videos, on KZfaq, from other people, as well. Having squirrels and other animals, as pets, is not intentional. Sometimes, animals need our help, too. They're mammals, like us humans, too. Nice video.

What a Beauty he is this little squirrel you adopted! I am sure that he finally will end up as the king of the biggest tree in your forest, thanks to your attention, kindness and love. Your story about the squirrel is a bright ray of sunlight in this dark period in a seemingly cruel and unfair world. I cannot help being a bit personal now, but this morning, the first day of the year 2024, I received a phone call from the doctor in the ICU telling me my mom is in a coma and probably wont make it again - so I just arrived back from her vigil there, she is still in coma but fighting to survive, I know. She was born and raised in a small village in the north of Sweden in Norrbotten, maybe not far from your squirrel forest. Your story about the squirrel gave me hope after the ominous wake up phone call this morning. Thanks Dani and I am so looking forward to the next episode of the injured squirrel saga and I am huge fan of all of your productions. TLC for the soul. Thanks.

Mom and her boyfriend are doing such a wonderful job raising Roo! And to watch you stroke Roo to sleep in your hand is beyond precious. And preparing Roo for getting back into the wild by making that enclosure is a great idea. So sorry to see his nose bleed from that fall but it looks like he made a quick recovery. Of course you must know that because you are Roo's mom he will always make visits to you after he is released into the wild. I remember one night I stroked my ferret to sleep when he was laying on the floor waiting for me to stroke him to sleep. He had free roam of my apartment but loved to sleep in a type of hammock I made under my couch. I had a very large cage for him for his food and water and litter box but he preferred to make his deposits on my bathroom rug and wait until I got home to feed him because he liked a little water in his food.

I'm a Squirrel Rehabber from Ohio and from watching different angles of you video of Roo, I'm certain that Roo is a female. Having raised over 100 squirrels, there is a saying among rehabbers that, "If you are uncertain about the sex of your baby squirrel, you have a female." The reason many-many people think they have a male is that when they are young, females have a very prominent urethra that many mistake as it being a penis. On male squirrels, their penis is 3/4 to one inch up the mid abdomen away from the rectum. That's why there is no mistaking a male squirrel from a female. I could be wrong, because I only caught glimpses of Roo's under belly. My wife agreed with me that she too thought Roo was a female! We enjoyed your video!
@todde2737
@todde2737 5 ай бұрын
Yes, Roo is a girl. At 13:53, that's a Vulva, not a urethra. I'm sure that's what you meant. Many, many people have politely asked if Dani is sure Roo is a boy (because they know she isn't), but Dani isn't picking up on it.
@wersells
@wersells 5 ай бұрын
Hi, Todd! No, I meant prominent urethral meatus. The length of it helps prevent Urinary Tract Infections since their stool can be quite runny when they are pinkies. The mother squirrel does an excellent job of keeping their stool and urine cleaned up by her constant licking, hence the need for humans to stimulate the babies to get them to urinate and defecate. This prominent urethral opening does exit from the vulva, and as they grow, it moves further into the folds of the vulva and labia. When we have had to catheterize squirrels with spinal injuries that is the landmark we always enter! And, where urine comes out when they are stimulated. @@todde2737
@todde2737
@todde2737 5 ай бұрын
@@wersellsYour exactly right, William. For some reason, when I read your first post, I read the word "urethra" and my brain told me that you wrote "uterus." That's why I was sure you meant Vulva, not uterus, because we both know they don't climb trees with their uterus on the outside. You were spot on, sir. Thank you for saving all of those baby squirrels They are the smartest, most talented little creations on Earth - in my opinion. I'm blessed to be able to work with them daily.

This cute animal obviously trusts you and accepts you as his parents. I always ask myself whether he understands that you rescued his life and do your best to release him into the wild, or whether he just lives through the situation without knowing what is normal for his species? Hopefully, he will be able to survive in the wild nature without the normal teaching by a squirrel mother. In any case, it must be an experience for you to deeply connect with an individuum of another species. Hopefully humans will learn to accept other animals as full and valuable living beings with their own rights. Happy New Year!

Back at work. It's raining and traditionally the most depressing day of the year. This really cheered me up. Thanks Dani. Now, I really should check some emails or something!

Love it! He’s so cute and you’ve done so well rehabbing him. It’s a situation you never would have wanted, but you have looked after him so brilliantly.

GOOD DAY Dani. We all rejoice in the chaos, which is RUU'S way of being alive, we are thrilled to see how tenderly you put her to sleep, we laugh at her slips and games, we are curious about her looks at the field, and the shudder at the tremendous blow the left her blending. But above all we understand you, without experience and suddenly you become a mother, whit her fears, responsibilities, frustrations, tiredness, but above all whit that LOVE that see transmits to us. THANK YOU. HAPPY New Years, may it bring you Peace, Happiness and the LOVE that you give us in your videos. HAPPY 2024. 🐿🥂🎉💖💋
