Why was a nurse interviewed instead of someone more qualified? Firstly, it is primarily the nicotine in tobacco smoke that causes vasoconstriction of fetal vessels and consequent hypoxia. Because marijuana does not contain nicotine, one cannot surmise that it will have the same effect. Marijuana does, however, appear to cause emphysema and chronic bronchitis to an even greater extent than cigarettes. Secondly, in my vast experience with users of marijuana and other drugs, I've learned many things; one of which is that drug users - especially marijuana smokers - are fundamentally selfish. (There's actually a broad body of psychological research supporting the notion that the personalities of drug users can be principally defined by a lack of conscientiousness.) Good luck getting a pot-smoking neighbor to be more considerate of others, let alone a pregnant mother.
