“You do not understand…but you will.” 😢 Hits me every time! Big, BIG episode!

For such an innocuous title, this episode is absolutely _huge._ It's another example of a "Nothing's the same anymore" episode.

This is one of those WOW episodes of B5. Completely unexpected, the 15th episode of the season and so much happened. Vorlons showed that they can kick ass if they want to, but Kosh finally wasn't cryptic, he did the most heroic and brave thing he could, and Sheridan didn't understand. But he saw that Sheridan was willing to die there, for the cause, just like the inquisitor showed he could, and Kosh decided to do the same thing. Be brave and help how he could. Such an amazing episode.

The scene I wanted to see the most got left out. Sheridans dream, where Kosh plays his Dad. So meaningful.

The death of Adira definitely makes your heart break a little for Londo, and then seeing him go ask Morden for help, breaks it a little more. And as many times as I've watched the show, the death of Kosh, especially as he's speaking to Sheridan, it still causes a few tears.

Oh this episode hits you left right, a little slap to distract you and bamm...Kosh was right. You do not udnerstand, but you will. Rewatching the series is rewarding for Kosh´s talk alone.

Its interesting how small characters will have such a big impact later in the show. You don't realize when Adira was first introduced what an impact her character has on Londo.

JMS cast Rance Howard (actor/director/producer Ron Howard's father) as Sheridan's father. This choice turned out to have significant impact beyond B5 for JMS. B5's critical success never translated into ratings success, and the efforts JMS had to make just to complete his vision left him exhausted and alienated from the much of rest of the industry for several years afterward, until Ron Howard approached JMS, saying "You gave my father a job when no one else would - let's make a movie together" JMS went on to write the movie "Changeling" which Howard produced, jumpstarting JMS's movie writing career.

There was a podcast called The Babble-on Project that had a lot of fun with Franklin's "Thirteen! Thirteen! Thirteen!" meltdown. "Hey, Dr Franklin, how many are in a baker's dozen?" "Hey, Dr Franklin, what's 7 plus 6? "Hey, Dr Franklin, how many people were at the Last Supper?"

Some episodes keep you coming back, because they are memorable, and stay in your memory all throughout your watch of the series...

The Vorlons and the Shadows have very powerful ships, but if you look back, we have seen the Shadows using mostly surprise attacks. It's like a battleship suddenly appearing beside you and engaging you at point-blank-range before you can even sound the alarm. Just saying we haven't seen them in an engagement where their opponent knew what they were and that they were coming. It might still be the equivalent of a destroyer going up against a battleship, but knowing what a battleship can do and with enough destroyers some will get close enough that even destroyers can eventually take down a battleship. With heavy losses of course. But as so often, we will see. As you just saw, the show has still some surprises left.

WHAM!!! Wham! Wham! Wham!

15:40 - Doctor Franklin should have been reduced in hours and serving as a teacher, rather than just being allowed to abandon his post. His skills are still needed, especially now. 17:50 - Kosh also could not flee the Shadows. If Kosh had fled, the Shadows would have gone after other targets instead (i.e. the B5 command staff). But I bet Kosh didn't go down easily.

The Vorlon fleet comprises 1 dreadnought, 3 cruisers and several fighters. They are all equipped with shields and Vorlon lightning cannons. A Vorlon dreadnought is actually more powerful than a Shadow Battlecrab but nowhere near as fast or agile.

For this show, Episode Walkabout has the deepest personal meaning to me.

B5's story, acting, and characters are awesome. I do wish the space battles would be "remastered" so to speak to today's capabilities. At the time they were great, still are, but when you did deeper into the lore you find out how much is left out or "dumbed down" because it was too expensive/out of reach at the time to display. The starfury fighters for example have 6 or 8 guns on them along with missiles, but the show makes you think they only have 2 guns like a tie fighter. Much like the Expanse, most of the warships fight by launching missiles, torpedoes, etc... along with their energy weapons. They defend with ecm jamming, stealth, and point defense more than shields as space is so big. As for the shadows, the show never really pointed it out but they have a mastery over entering different dimensions like hyperspace. That's why their ships just appear rather than you seeing a jump opening. Consequently they aren't just invisible but/also phased out partially when on B5, otherwise they could never sneak about in crowded areas without bumping into people/things. Point is, heat sensors and the like wouldn't be reliably able to detect them. Someone else may know better, but when Sheridan saw them on camera it was only for a moment before their phasing made them invisible again.

Get ready for the roller coaster ride. Be prepared to watch several episodes together. Though we all had to wait a week or more between episodes

Kosh knew he couldn't explain up front what would happen. If he did, Sheridan wouldn't risk it and the whole thing could fail. Kosh even said it had to happen, but he wasnt actually in the battle.

The circumstances of Franklin's resignation are almost exactly the same as the woman who discovered the alien healing device in season 1, although he hadn't killed anyone through negligence (yet)

yeah .,.. the Shadows were designed after real insects i think.. one of those variations on bugs, that actually looks like a twig with leaves.. when not moving. ( unless I'm wrong )

Good questions. Answers are coming, guys. Also keep in mind that often things change between episodes based on the needs of the story. Maybe not so much as characters but for ships and alien species. One week they are powerful and the next not as much. JMS had a plan for the show over the years but not so much on the details and specifics. In D&D terms, Story trumps Rules. Also he was just one guy writing all this stuff. No one really to bounce ideas against or question the logic of things.

We have seen that Londo is lethally scary, and willing to do things he hates in service to goals he considers important. Now, what limits will he feel? How far will he go? I would be afraid.

Oh, great. An episode called "Interludes and Examinations". I'm sure that it will be a nice, calm episode.

My opinion may not be the most popular, but I sincerely believe you should watch In The Beginning after War Without End Part 1. Thats... War Without End Part 1 In The Beginning (movie) War Without End Part 2 Trust me, it's perfectly suited to be slotted right there.

I've always wondered, is Kosh appearing as Sheridan's father a sign of Kosh's arrogance? Or of Sheridan's respect for him? Either way, when you know what happens, everything about that "discussion" takes on a new angle, Most of all Kosh's almost pleadeing when he say "Its not yet time"!

Beware of unexciting sounding titles.

Too many Shadows on Babylon 5 might be detected by the Vorlons.

These Shadow ships are not designed to deal with the Vorlons. The Shadows use them against lesser races. The Shadows weren't expecting a direct confrontation with the Vorlons, and Babylon 5 fans know why.

But how does this all tie back to the Great Egg?

After Babylon 5 (my favorite sci-fi show), you need to watch The Expanse (my second favorite). Like asap.
