This reel showcases the visual effects work created at
RISE | Visual Effects Studios
Led by RISE VFX supervisor Erik Schneider. As building a single set representing all of Berlin is impossible, lots of set extensions needed to be built following the architecture of the pre-WWII era and famous sites were recreated that were destroyed during the war based on photographic reference. Cars were animated, trams needed to speed through the streets and thousands of CG crowd digi-doubles made the city come alive.
Bablyon Berlin Season 3 is now out on Sky Europe and soon everywhere around the world streaming and on TV.

Schade das es sowas wie ein Greenscreen braucht. Heute werden nur noch hässliche Bauten hochgezogen.

It's a great pity that DDR neglected rebuilding of the old beautiful Berlin. After all Breslau in Poland had a bit more luck.

You think so? I live in Breslau and fortunately many old buildings are still there and in recent years have been some renovation. But apart from the fact that the majority of the city was destroyed during WWII, I am not sure whether the degree of neglect for what was still left wasn't more or less the same here in the decades after the war?

@@lijenamacka I have a big beatiful aerial photo poster of pre-war Berlin.. There almost nothing was left (except Museum Insel). Great architecutre went down the drain. Schade. And Schande.

Makes me wish there had remained more of old Berlin. But, maybe, no. The Germans are right to rebuild anew. There is hardly a place and time with so much risque avante guard & political intrigue than 20's and early thirties Berlin.
