Although the Kami band , the band that plays live, not necessarily the musicians playing on the recording, are a rotating membership of session players, there are some that are regular members throughout their history. Two different bands, one from the East and one from the West. Great reaction, thanks! "Gimme Chocolate" is "just" a fun song about the girls wanting to eat chocolate but being little worried about their weight. It also has some cute vocals... but at the instrumentals are quite brutal and this juxtaposition (totally intended) is the reason why this music video went viral in 2014. This MV has the studio track over the visuals from the concert called Legend 1997 Su-metal seitan sai (Su-metal's birthday party). Performed on December 21st 2013. It was the day after her 16th birthday. When you see those guys in skeleton costumes, they are not a real band. They are called "babybones" and they were there to pretend to play the instruments since the instrumentals were on a backing track while Su-metal always sings live. It was like this because they couldn't afford an actual band in the beginning. Their real live band (Kami Band) was introduced progressively since October 2012 and they became permanent since March 2014 (replacing the babybones for good). The Kami Band only plays on live performances and they have never been credited to play in the studio versions (with the only exception of Leda Cygnus). Then... well.. down the Foxhole I went, saw them live in Germany 2016, been twice to Japan just to see them with minimal language knowlage and saw them last year in Stockholm and Oslo 🤘🦊🤘 On this song the music was played on backing track because they couldn't afford a band, the ones in skelleton suits are actors...

This one. This was the first video I watched of theirs. I think for the first half of it, my jaw was on the floor because I was extremely confused. The second half, my cheeks hurt because I couldn't stop smiling. Kawai Metal . It's something I never knew that I needed, but I can't go on without it now.

This is an amazing and unique band. They bring sunshine and joy, and let’s face it we all need as much of that as we can get.

To answer your question, later on in this concert the Kami band came out to play the encore, and then was in every show after. But during this song's performance, the guys in skeleton costumes are just actors pretending to play to a backtrack, plus this video uses the official audio instead of the live audio. But the Kami band are highly skilled session musicians: there are two groups the Eastern Kami's you'll see in videos from 2018 and earlier, the Western Kami's were added after that and are pretty much the main stay now. The people who write the songs don't perform them (mostly). Also the people who play instruments on the albums aren't the same people who play live. Also Also they have two different live bands. But it's always high quality. It would seem like they treat their talent well because they have extremely low turnover. People don't leave.

The guys in the skeleton costumes in this video are fake musicians playing to a backing track but later in this concert we see the Kami Band, the real session band who form the backing band for live concerts. They have numerous members with a hardcore group who played most concerts. The Western Kami Band who seem to do most concerts these days are I believe American. Several of their members were or are also members of the band Galactic Empire who play metal versions of the music of Star Wars and other John Williams scores.

Gimme Chocolate was their first viral hit but the Sonisphere 2014 concert set them on a global path. They were bumped up to the main stage on short notice, sorta (a few months) based off their growing popularity and ended up being the biggest seller and talk of the festival. The crowd at Sonisphere was known to be hostile to acts they didn't like and it frightened the girls, however, by the end of their set the crowd was chanting "We want more!''. They were average age 14-15 at that festival.

They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.) The black outfit and masks currently used helps place them more in the background as the group is Babymetal not the Kami Band.

The Kami band , not featured in this video, are world class session musicians. The eastern Kamis ( from Japan) and the western Kamis ( America), are both deemed great and epic enough to accompany Queen Su and Yui and Moa ( on this video) and Momoko in the new videos. She's the Legend, born in 1997. *2). Venue:* Makuhari Messe, same venue from your Headbanger reaction (that was in Jan 2023), ~10K capacity, the largest Babymetal arena show up to that point. *3). The "Official" Videos are always studio audio, unless labeled "Official Live". *4). Importance:* While a very divisive song that garnered a lot of Metal Elitist/Gatekeepr hatred, THIS is the video that went viral, and put Babymetal in the international limelight. At the end of 2013, Babymetal was largely unknown to the western world, and just got big in Japan. *5). This MV isn't actually live version and not even with the usual Kami Band, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. Back in the day, before 2014 mainly, they used to have this backing band called "baby-bones" air playing instruments wearing this skeleton costumes, they didn't have the budget to afford a high level set of real musicians like they have now, so progressively since 2012 they incorporate the real band and leaving the baby-bones behind, they did a great job supporting the girls and giving a show, so shout-out to them for being part of BM story. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, so it's actually 10 years ago, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_ They're just singing about wanting to eat some chocolate but they worried about the weight just like any other regular girl, there's not so much hidden message behind, they used to have fun songs like these without so much deepness on the lyrics just to have fun and party, but the brutal contrast on this is remarkable, no doubt about it. Nice reaction. The song that went viral for them and put Japanese metal back on the international scene. Back in the 80's we had Loudness and X Japan. And then the Japanese metal invasion ended. After this song came out. Many heads turned East to Japan and asked WTF is going on over there? Little did folks know at the time there would soon be another Japanese metal invasion. This time led by 3 little Kawaii girls. While some Metal gate keepers thought oh No way. Babymetal said Oh you better believe it and were here for the long haul. Over 10 years and 4 albums later with millions of fans worldwide Babymetal paved a road for themselves in the metal world with their Kawaii metal. Soon other bands from Japan followed them into the international scene. But that is a story for another time. While Give Me Chocolate is the song that put them on the map. It's not their first song. That honor belongs to Doki Doki Morning. Check that song out. Beware you may have Kawaii overload. The joy they bring even at their young age doesn't seem to go away either. They performed this song for their 10 year anniversary along with Give Me Chocolate with the same gusto from their younger days. Babymetal is known for their performances because they give their all. No matter the venue, the size of the audience or who is in the audience. This is footage from the Legends 97 concert which is worth watching from start to finish and is an incredible theatrical performance of the girls rise to stardom,at the start they have the baby bones miming the instruments until half way through when we are introduced to the Kami band for the first time, in their early years of trying to get gigs and being children they could not afford a band. Back in the day, I'd heard of this new thing, with metal + cute Japanese girls, so I checked this out annnnd.... I didn't really get it. I had a hard time reconciling the two sides, in my head. I later gave them another chance, thanks to all yall Reactors, and now I'm FULLY on-board. Rock on, my man! 🤘🦊🤘 (And in the Babymetal mythology, they are the servents of "The Fox God", so you'll see that here and there. Hence, "Foxhole")

Yeah I’ve been down the foxhole for about 5 months now. With ADHD it feels like years have past and it feels like there is no bottom to this thing. I have tried to be skeptical, but so far I can’t help but shake the feeling that Babymetal will go down in history as one of the biggest things to happen to heavy metal sense the Big 4. Haters might laugh at me for this statement but this is a gut feeling for me. This isn’t just a rabbit hole, it is a red pill. If Babymetal was just some fringe band it would be one thing, but with how big they are in the industry yet so little people outside of its cult-like fandom actually know anything about them outside of this song, kind of makes this feel like there is a whole other side to the metal scene that most people aren’t aware of. BMTH being the biggest modern metal band on the scene and even they take inspiration from these girls. If they are THAT influential, only the Fox God knows how deep this thing goes.

BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around for a bit over thirteen years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! The musicians in the older vids are “The Kami Band” comprised of several magnificent Japanese artists. Tons of info around for them. The current band are Americans. Primarily members of “Galactic Empire” - All instrumental metal covers of songs from the Star Wars Franchise. These guys started as a gimmick, putting little girls from a "Pop Princess" group singing bubblegum pop against a backing of insanely talented metal musicians. (I've been a fan since about 2015, even before I realised I was a metal fan!) In the following years the lead singer "Su- Metal" worked hard at developing her voice into a serious vocal instrument. The Kami Band (their backing group) are all legends. There is quite a complex mythology behind the group (the girls act as avatars for the Fox God!) and it is all in good fun. I love how they are simultaneously serious and not at all serious!

The break through MV for Babymetal . Which then led to their breakthrough appearance on the world stage at Sonisphere metal festival in 2014 . A British metal audience can be quite a brutal force , so imagine these kids being stuck on the main stage in front of 50k British metal heads. And they killed it. Well, if you see band members in skeleton out fits they are referred to as BabyBones. They are actors pretending to play the instruments to a background track. Because in the early days of BabyMetal, they couldn't afford real musicians to tour with them. When you see the band in white robes and white face paint, the are called The Kami Band (East). They are actually playing live with them. Then there is The Kami Band (West) when they tour outside of Japan. They are usually dressed in black robes and face masks. I'm sure I'm missing something. The problem I have with watching Babymetal videos is that I always get the feeling that the FBI are about to bust down the door.

This one isn't a request for chocolate, it's closer to a cute demand. 😈 And there's another, perhaps in the future of your journey, about hide-and-seek / tag. That's an original Babymetal hit. That's when Suzuka, Moa and Yui were quite young. Roughly 10 years ago. Yui left in 2018 and Momoko was named the new Metal in April 2023. Now it Su-Metal, Moametal, Momometal. Other originals are Road or Resistance and Megitsune. Megitsune original is a video production, but there is Live versions. You will find versions from when they were younger to more recent. LINE is a original produced with almost no money in the very very beginning, as is Doki Doki Morning. If u check those out, then check out the latest performance as well. The differences are amazing but the OG songs are what was and is Babymetal. Monochrome live and piano version. Metalizm, Divine Attack, Metal Kingdom at PIA arena are good. Old but newer songs like From Dusk till Dawn, Syncopation, Kagerou. I'm a total Babymetal fan and you are in for a lot of good music. They truly are a, pick any song and you won't be disappointed, kind of band. I just want to point out something which I personally believe identifies great music - most people here don't understand a word of Japanese - and nobody cares😂 because what you're looking at and listening to is just a feast for the senses. As I said before Daniel, I've seen them 4 times (once with Sabaton btw!) and I'm not kidding - the atmosphere is so electric and almost tangible. Every reactor begins with Gimme Chocolate purely because of the gazillion views, but to your credit, you didn't. Most people think what the hell is this and don't explore them any further, which is a shame. Personally, not a favourite song of mine but I understand why people like it. But there are so many better songs. I'm always pushing for live music reactions and Babymetal are no exception, but I do recommend watching the video version of 'Karate' - you’ll appreciate it. Do watch out for the copyright police with Babymetal Daniel. There is a Babymetal Reactions Resource channel in KZfaq - I think.....which provides a watermark to overcome any problems. I know zero about technical matters re KZfaq - I just don't want you to get any blocks or strikes etc. Take good care of yourself ....David
