"Karate" also features djent-like riffs and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion." “Karate” took home the trophy for Best Metal Song @ the 2016 Annual Loudwire Music Awards. Karate explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Karate choreographed described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese 🇯🇵. That "Hashire" in karate will always tear me up every time. It just gives me a sense of epicness and energy that I have never felt with other songs before. Su-Metal voice has matured over the years now that she is in her early 20s. Noticing little things like Su-Metal removing her IEM at the 2016 UK 🇬🇧 Download Festival to hear the crowd always gets a thumbs up from me. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. There is more that you can hear from Su-Metal in-term of vocals:- 1. "Amore" (Wembley Arena). 2. "No Rain No Rainbow" (Legend A Baptism XX). 3. "Akatsuki" (Budokan Black Night) & (The Unfinished Version @ Makuhari Messe). 4. Rondo Of Nightmare With Mischief Of Metal Gods Intro @ Budokan Black Night). Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult.

This is not the festival that Babymetal started their world conquest. That was at the Sonisphere back in 2014 and can be seen in the IDZ live video. This was 2016 and they were well on their way to becoming an established metal act.

Another great reaction, thanks! "Karate" has all the ingredients for being a pop song (even has the structure) but that metal riff comes out from nowhere and hits you like a bus. It rained so hard all the weekend that the festival had to be renamed to "Drownload". 😁Not to mention that Kobametal (their producer) was seen mopping the water off the stage with a broom or something. You can imagine the subsequent memes. But jokes apart, you can see how slippery the stage was. And there is another cool story about Download festival but from 2015. Andy Copping (the festival promoter) said in his social media that his festival was not a place for BABYMETAL. So DragonForce sneaked them in their own time slot and played "Gimme Chocolate" with the girls. The crowd went nuts and Copping couldn't believe it. Next year (2016) they were hired to play in the main stage as you could see in this video. Until next time! 🤘🦊

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。As you noticed, it was raining very hard. Equipment on the stage were covered and floor was all over wet. Three girls could have aborted the performance and gone back to a comfortable hotel rooms but they didn't because the huge crowd was waiting and no one left the venue. The girls never modified their choreo even on the slippery stage (You can actually see Su-Metal slipping lightly at 03:04 in your video). On the contrary, Yui and Moa threw themselves onto the wet floor and Kamis moved their bodies hard (BOH, bassist, jumped) with the girls to cheer up everyone there. Those scenes moves me to tears, like you experienced. In an interview, Su said this Download 2016 was one of the most impressive festivals because of the bad weather. She felt very happy to see the crowd waiting for them in such drenched condition. In addition, she thought the heavy rain worked as some kind of stage effects to make their performance look dramatic to the audiences in a fever. [source: magazine "Headbang" vol.28 page 16] I love such a positive mindset of Su accepting any situation.

Yui team ? I'm a little confused. There is no separation, Yui is Babymetal, just like Su, Moa and Momo are Babymetal. None of it would exist if not for the original three....as long as there is Babymetal there is Yui metal. We haven't lost Yui, we have gained Momo.

@@JL-go3 Iam a babymetal fan since their early years of popping in the metal universe. I mean iam an original babymetal fan (with Yui in it), since Yui's departure the group changed way too far they are too serious not only the girls but the kami too (the western band is just like any generic metal band which is seriously serial killer like) not like the eastern kamj who never stop making fun and smiling in the every performances. In short i can't enjoy the new babymetal like at all, except the 2 song the BXMXC (this song has a phenomenal audio quality and unique composition) and Arkadia (because it has a phenomenal structure and very complex progressive). So after Yui's departure i consider myself is not a fan of (the new) babymetal anymore but a huuuuuuuuge fan of Yui (and her era or the original babymetal) that's why iam a Yui team

This was at the infamous Drownload 2016 in the UK where it rained for the entire festival. In spite of that, the fans turned out in force and in full voice for Babymetal. It was so wet on the day they were supposed to perform that Kobametal was unsure if it would be safe for the girls to perform due to how wet the stage was. Eventually, he mopped the stage himself before he was satisfied that that it was dry enough for the girls to be able to dance safely (there are fan photos on Koba on stage with a mop). Kobametal originally chose Su to be the lead singer of his metal/j-pop band because she had a powerful voice that could cut through the heavy instrumentation that she would be singing with. Wholesomeness is a good way to describe what Babymetal is about. I've also seen them called "happy metal" or "feelgood metal". The essence of Babymetal is about positivity and perseverance and treading your own path, which is what they have done throughout their career.

I believe the owner of the Download festival had denied BABYMETAL in 2015 and said they would never get to play there. However, DragonForce let Babymetal come with them and had them perform Gimme Chocolate during their show. The organizer received a lot of critique for his comments and so they were allowed in the next year (2016). They also played there in 2018 and I can recommend their performance of "Distortion" from that show. It was raining a lot during Download 2016 so people have called it "Drownload" and Babymetal's producer was seen mopping the stage ahead of their performance to avoid injuries. We can see Su slip at 3:03 in your reaction.

Great reaction. The threats of bottles being thrown was 2 years before in 2014 at Sonisphere Festival - some people made those threats on social media when it was announced BABYMETAL would be there and on the main stage. The bottles never materialised This was Download in 2016 and it rained so hard that their set was delayed for 40 minutes while water was swept off the stage (there is a photo of their producer out there with a broom) and the equipment had plastic covers put over it. 'Karate' is about getting up when life knocks you down, when you are crying, unable to stand and everything seems too hard. They are saying to keep on fighting, help each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art, so it reflects their culture - and like the song it is about always moving forward. The official video is very good at illustrating exactly what the song is about through the visuals.

Karate from Download is always my go to vid to show my friends what Babymetal is all about. When you watch their Japanese mega concerts, you wouldn't be surprised by the huge crowds, and the crowd interaction..... But seeing the surprise on my friends faces, when they see 50,000 western metal heads, singing and dancing with 3 little Japanese girls, is priceless..... This here is basic Babymetal and what makes them great, The Girls with Su's singing and Yui and Moa's cuteness, The Kamiband rocking the hell out, and the Crowd....And I never fail to get goosebumps when she takes off her earpiece and say "Let us hear your voice".....Oh, the bottle throwing thing, that was 2 years earlier in Sonisphere. That was their first major overseas festival. I'm sure The One (name of Babymetal fanbase) will fill you in on the details. You should react to that one next. 🤘🦊🤘

You should give the music video of this song a look - it is a real work of art. And it's just my opinion but continuing to compare BABYMETAL to anime music is getting old. However, I just read something along the lines that if the only Japanese music a person has listened to was in anime, then ANY music from Japan "sounds" like it belongs in an anime. Also, it begs the question: if the girls were from Sweden, would it still sound like anime? Evidently, "a lot of Japanese people who listen to BABYMETAL never talk about anime (because there is nothing anime in BABYMETAL) and often wonder what's with those stupid anime comments from the West." Just sayin'.

Su-Metal not only reliably singing over a full heavy metal band, but also the takeoff and landing jets right next door. If you are starting a band that plays in front of jet engines she's your lead. Regarding the breath control, legend says Su-Metal relaxes through two hours of high impact aerobic exercise every morning while she sings their catalog to start her day.

The person editing visual footage is not often an estute enough music fan or musician to be able to line up all the shots while getting the timing of each individual player at each moment. I've noticed this with nearly all big name acts over the decades.

I have a question for you. You obviously 'get' the concept of Babymetal and do good reactions to them. But what happens when the playlist is over? Do you actually still listen to this stuff, or just don't have time as you're reacting to the next thing? Or have other 'best ever' things to react to? (Uploading this on my phone; got a whole lot more to ask, but this isn't the ideal interface lol.)
@walterooski

This is an interesting question that's never been asked. The answer is simple enough. Some songs I've reacted to were good in their moment or I could appreciate them, but they also were not songs I'd find myself listening to in my personal time or going out of my way to listen to. Sometimes, I hear something that I think somebody else would like, even if it wasn't for me, and I'll share it with that person because it reminded me of something they'd like. Music is love after all. In regards to BABYMETAL, the simple answer is that it's too early to tell. I've listened to the songs I've reacted to more than just the time I reacted to them as well as sharing them with people if that says anything. I wouldn't say it's hit my main playlist yet or anything, but I'd definitely say I wouldn't react to a band I disliked for views. I don't upload reactions to songs or artists I dislike as a policy and, if I'm still in the rabbit hole, it's because I want to be. I feel no obligation to complete any particular artist's catalog. I follow an internal compass dictated by my mood at the time, I chase curiosity, I follow intrigue, and I listen to advice from comments when I'm searching for my next step in a band I want to continue reacting to because I find that fans of the bands often have the best insight. I hope this helps haha! I appreciate you so much for taking the time to leave a comment, my friend. You are valuable and I'm honored to have been worth a moment of your time.

@@walterooski Thanks for the reply; really interesting. And resonates somewhat too. I do hope you stick with them though. What you have heard so far are the 'usual path'. At the point I encountered that, I had little or no interest in 'new' music, so I continued down the foxhole as it seemed like better than nothing. And it really opened up a different world for me. I have at least 6k hours listening to the first 3 albums. And I don't regret a second of it. Babymetal continues to surprise and/or delight with each song/replay. I'll admit the latest album seems a bit "more of the same" - but there aren't an infinite number of notes after all, and I've not really 'heard' it yet; just listened to it. At the very least, listen to Megitsue, From dusk till dawn, Iine (i i n e; not 'line'), and BxMxC, and the tracks you already have heard, and tell me they are all from the same band and how. May the foxgod be with you.
